After the cocktail hour ended, it was time for dinner and our first dance. Here’s what we saw when we walked into the dining room.
Not too long ago I was in an utter panic over the fabric for my wedding dress. If you don’t recall, I am having my dress made and had carefully selected a fabric only to find it was out of stock! Not only this, but the liner fabric I had chosen was also out of stock.
Well, I know you have all been holding your breath, wondering if I would be forced to walk down the aisle naked (because finding an alternate fabric would never work…).
I can happily tell you, that I will indeed be fully clothed, and not only that, I will be in my first choice fabric UK-591. It’s Dupioni silk and according to fabric.com:
“Dupioni silk fabric has a lustrous sheen and characteristic small slubs that run horizontally across the fabric. It falls in soft folds when draped and is the most versatile fabric we carry. Not only do many brides choose dupioni silk fabric for themselves and their bridesmaids, it is also perfect for blouses, jackets, skirts, handbags and dresses. Be creative with beautiful home decor accents (draperies, swags, pillows and duvet covers.”
Would you like to see it?

One of the things I’m looking forward to most with this wedding, besides actually getting married, is all of the eating activities. There are all types of excuses to scarf down food. Besides the dinner at your reception, you can fill up on good food pretty much from throughout the entire wedding planning process. Engagement dinners, multiple bridal showers, bridal luncheons and of course, the rehearsal dinner. Ah, the rehearsal dinner. I don’t know why most people only have one; I think I’ll need a few rehearsals to perfect my yummy face.
Early on, we considered having it at a great Mexican restaurant a few blocks from Mr. Warbs’ parents house. Since they’re regulars, the owners gave them a really good deal that included pitchers of margaritas, beer and platters upon platters of food. My kind of party! But, it wouldn’t have worked out logistically. The Mexican restaurant is in Whittier which is nearly 60 miles away from Malibu. So our options were to have the rehearsal dinner Thursday, have the actual rehearsal on Friday and the wedding on Saturday. There was way too much back and forth involved in that plan. We could also have had the dinner a couple of weeks before the wedding, but that just seemed odd to me. It just made more sense to have the dinner in the Malibu area. No enchiladas for us.
We checked out a few over priced restaurants before we settled on Buca di Beppo.

I think it’s possible that some of y’all might be operating under the misconception that I’m a decisive person. I mentioned how I found my dress on my first outing, and I’ve described the ease of booking some of our vendors and even securing our ceremony venue. But let me be very clear: those situations were exceptions to the rule. I just happened to have a strong feeling about those decisions, and my gut led me in the right direction. When it comes to most things, I am crippled with indecision. (OK, maybe crippled is a little extreme, but it is serious, y’all.) My latest dilemma? Picking a domain name for our wedding website.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I’ve had a couple encounters with a mailbox recently; something I never thought would be so…exciting? Heart pounding? Nerve-wracking? All of the above, actually.
My first encounter with a mailbox occurred last week when I headed to Home Depot to buy light bulbs while Mr. Honey was out of town (seriously, I had four light bulbs go out the first week he was gone. What the?). As I stood staring at the enormous selection of light bulbs I thought I should take a look at the mailboxes. Why? Because I wanted something like this:

A mailbox to display at the reception for cards. I’m smitten with the “Up” inspired mailboxes like Mrs. Lioness and Mrs. Snow Cone created, but we have actually never seen the movie (I really really want to though!), so it wouldn’t really make sense. I also wanted to be able to use the mailbox post-wedding, so I needed something a tad more practical.

We hadn’t lined up our Puerto Rico or Grand Turk excursions before getting on the boat, but luckily, there was still plenty available. They say to book early, and some stuff did fill up, but we really weren’t sure what we could and could not do financially until we got down to the wire. In San Juan, we chose a Rainforest Drive up through the Yunque Rainforest, a 28,000-acre rainforest that is the only one in the United States.

But first: Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, from our ship
Our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable, regaling us with historical and political facts during the 50-minute drive to El Yunque. He was also resourceful:

Friday morning started bright and early. At about 7:30 AM, I knew there was no point in trying to get any more sleep, so I crossed over to the opposite side of the house and hopped in between my two bridesmaids who were fast asleep. Luckily, they awoke in good spirits and we decided to take a morning stroll through the gardens. The house we were staying at is on the property of Clark Gardens, and is about a two minute walk from the front door of the house into the main part of the gardens.
We arrived at the gardens and everything was dewy and fresh. It was so beautiful and quiet. The walk lasted well over an hour as we chatted, explored, and even found a sweet hideaway spot on the top of a huge hill that overlooked a big expanse and the highway.

Today—November 30th!—I am celebrating my Golden Birthday. A Golden Birthday (or a Lucky Birthday or a Champagne Birthday) occurs when a person turns the age of their birth date. So, even though a lady is never supposed to reveal her age, I’ve just given you enough information to figure out how old I am going to be. That’s right, I’m going to be celebrating the big three-oh. I’m officially entering my 30s. I’ll be a thirtysomething bride.

I remember the first time that I ever heard of Golden Birthdays. I was five years old at a classmate’s birthday party, complete with balloon animals and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. I burst into tears once I realized that I wouldn’t get to celebrate mine for another 25 years. In between hiccups, I wailed, “I will be sooooooo old and a mom. You don’t get special gold dog balloons at mom birthdays!”
Since we registered nearly a week and a half ago, Bed Bath and Beyond has done a wonderful job keeping up on things. They noticed we added a few things online and deleted a few items, and a representative took the time to call us and ask if we had any questions. I also came home the other day to a nice handwritten thank you card in the mail from them. Although Bed Bath and Beyond was overwhelming, it was completely worth it. Being that they have SO much stuff, we were able to eliminate other places we were considering registering at. I know a lot of people register online and not in store, but I have to say that I am glad we stuck to registering in store. We were able to look at the quality of different items and see what they look like in person. There are items that we added to our registry that if I had only registered online I probably wouldn’t have chosen.
I really enjoyed our relaxed experience at Crate and Barrel. While we were moseying around, we struck up a conversation with a woman and her husband who were there buying a wedding gift for someone else. They have been married for nearly 30 years and they had some great advice for us.

If you’re a dog person, you probably understand why some couples have their dogs in their weddings. The relationship between a dog and owner is about unconditional love, companionship, and dependability.

From Snippet & Ink / Photo by Joe Mikos Photographers
There was a time when I didn’t understand why people were so crazy for dogs. I thought the idea of having a dog in a wedding was downright strange. When Junior Mink came into my life four years ago, everything changed. Part of me wanted him in our wedding, but part of me worried about having him there.
At one point in the night, I noticed that all of our groomsmen had mysteriously disappeared from the reception. I could only assume that they were decorating our getaway car, a theory later confirmed by photographic evidence:
I really wanted to rent a white vintage car, like a Rolls Royce or something that I imagined would appear in an old movie.
Hi Everyone! It’s Miss Raccoon here. Sorry I’ve been away for so long! It’s that kind of time when you ask, “Anything else?” as a rhetorical question and some greater power says, “Oh most definitely. Challenge accepted.” We still consider ourselves to be doing pretty well because we were able to have a great Thanksgiving weekend with our families and our wedding is in two months!
It came up in conversation that we still hadn’t picked a song to use for our first dance. In the beginning, we took Miss Doily’s idea of setting up a playoff chart. We had a good time making cuts and practicing dancing to different songs. Frank Sinatra’s version of Cheek to Cheek was the victor and we were going to shamelessly borrow choreography from a YouTube video. It was going to be funny and fantastic and… so not us. It didn’t sit well with me.
Call me selfish, but I think the first dance should be more for us than entertainment for guests.

Hi there! I can’t believe that I’m writing this post…it feels so surreal, and I am just so SO honored. In the course of a couple of hours, I went from emailing Mrs. Penguin about whether my auto response (you know, for rejection) had gone to my email doppleganger* to receiving an invitation to join the hive. WOW.
So, who are the Turkeys?
You’ll learn a lot about us over these next five-plus months, so I’ll keep it short. We’re (now resident) Philadelphians planning a black tie (optional) party in the City of Brotherly Love. We’re going fancy-pants because we clean up pretty nice!
