The Story of Us

November 1st, 2011 @ 5:47 am by Miss Elk

Yes I am now singing Taylor Swift instead of writing this post, and yes I am huge nerd and love Taylor Swift despite the fact that I am not in high school anymore!

Fortunately, the story I am about to tell does not end at all in the way the song does.

Mr. Elk is a computer engineer whom I met during orientation week of our freshman year at college. He was quiet and shy, and a huge nerd (goes well with me, seeing as I just introduced myself as a nerd, too!). We met during one of the few orientation events he actually attended—one of those awkward icebreaker games (ugh!). Anyway, after that I noticed him in his room a lot and had to pass his room on the way to mine. I was intrigued by him! So one night, while returning to our hall slightly inebriated, I decided to enter his room and find out more about this mysterious man. Although I was annoying, I somehow got to him and we became fast friends. I found myself spending every free moment I had talking to him. It took three months for our friendship to turn romantic, and we have been together ever since. I can honestly say that I never thought I would be marrying Mr. Elk when I was a freshman in college! But we have grown together as a couple and as individuals—and I can’t imagine my life without him.

Did you you know you were going to marry your SO from the start, or did it take awhile?

I met my fiancé at orientation too!!! My dad told me before I left to pay attention to who I met because they would be my friends for life, but at the time I rolled my eyes and tooootally didn’t believe him… Couldn’t have imagined I would be marrying one of the guys I met there :)

@jaina8851: haha I thought my college was too small before I got there…my mom still makes fun of me for marrying a guy who lived across the hall

He was ALL IN from date 1.

Me, I took a little longer to reconcile myself to the idea of forever.

I’m a muller, a dweller–a (over)thinker of thoughts…and I had to do the whole pros & cons shuffle and roll the concept of marriage over in my head like one of those rock tumblers that were all the rage as Christmas gifts for random children in your life in the late 70’s until one day–out popped a shiny nugget of certainty.

Congrats to you both!

It took me a while. In fact most of our dating life (2 years) When I finally had my lightbulb moment everyone else was like “well it’s about time” *smh* :)

I ended up meeting my now husband during the first few days of college too and have been together ever since (7 yrs!). He lived just a few floors above me and was actually cousins with my randomly assigned roommate! Sometimes it’s just meant to me be! We were married this October : )

I love hearing all of your stories! It’s amazing to me that people can meet someone and know immediately that they want to marry them- I am definitely a muller (I love that rock tumbler reference!)

Keep em coming!

We pretty much knew from the beginning, but we were a little older and ready to settle down. :)

Cute story! I knew from the beginning that Mr. Mole was someone I wanted to spend a lot of time with. When we moved in together, I knew we would eventually get married.

I knew right away, but I was too afraid of some of our differences to commit to a relationship. He was SO DIFFERENT than the other guys I’d been with. I guess that’s kind of a “duh” moment, right? We were just friends for a while and I dated someone else (oops!) until I finally realized how stupid I was being and told him how I really felt. We’ve been happily together (and soon to be happily married!) ever since.

I met Mr. Dalmatian on move-in day freshmen year of college and he is a computer engineer too! And I met Bridesmaid E during orientation - I guess your dad is right!
P.S. Love the T. Swift reference :)

Your story is so sweet! And you got to go to Japan? How cool!
I was an orientation leader for my school and hope my lame ice breaker games introduced a few sweethearts :)

It definitely took a few months before I knew I wanted to marry Foxy, partially because we started as long distance and I thought he’d just be like a two week fling, hah!! But we connected right away and the more I let myself fall in love with him, the more I knew I wanted to be in his life forever!

What a cute story! I definitely didn’t think Mr. P and I would end up together when I met him–I even turned him down the first time he asked me out! Thank goodness he asked again because I cannot imagine my life without him.

BTW, I played that Taylor Swift song while reading your post, but mainly because I’d never heard it before. It’s fun!

Such a sweet story! And I have to chime in to say that as a fellow ‘bad tv watcher’, I think you’re awesome. :)

We met at a party and were dating within a week. I’d say within 2-3 weeks, I knew he was THE ONE.

Aw, what a sweet beginning! I definitely didn’t think I’d be marrying Mr. FC either. I didn’t even think I’d see him again after my study abroad was over. :P
