Confessions of a Wedding-Obsessed Bride

November 1st, 2011 @ 11:27 am by Miss Elk

I have a confession—I love weddings, and not just because I am planning my own. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for them. When I was younger and people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always replied, “I want to be a doctor but a wedding-dress designer in my spare time.” Want proof? Here are some wedding dresses I designed back when I was 12 or so! (PS: Don’t judge too hard—I was 12 with no artistic talents, and I never claimed to be Vera Wang!)

God have my tastes in dresses changed! Velvet? At least the black was ahead of my time!

Totally Pnina Tornai-like, no?

Even now, on the worst of days in the hospital, I daydream of my career in the wedding industry

Were you always wedding obsessed, or did it all start after you found yourself planning a wedding?

I love this! I had my wedding dress planned out from an early age! It was a little Sailor Moon inspired… It also involved velvet… I am glad to say I have moved away from that idea…

Your gown sketches are totally cute… :) If you ever decide to give it a try, I think you have a solid future in design! ;-)

i remember doing this! I designed a bunch of dresses that ended up looking like they came out of the renaissance faire… Not that I was into the renaissance faire scene at ALL (I actually despised it), but renaissance fashion was the easiest for 8-year-old me to draw… :)

OMG, this brings back so many memories. My kid BFF and I designed dresses for a marker-drawn catalog called “Midnight Blue makes your Dreams Come True.” I need to see if I can find that.

Ha! This is too funny, my mother has old sketchbooks of mine which are FILLED with ridiculous wedding dress illustrations.

This is awesome! I used to draw up dresses (evening gowns, not necessarily wedding) in my spare time when I was little too!

I have been planning my wedding for a while now :D Way before I met Mr. PF anyways…hehe
My colors were going to be baby blue and white (because that was Justin Timberlake’s favorite color) and we were gonna dance our first dance to “God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You”

These are so adorable and I love that you still have them. You should frame them and display them at a shower or something - it is too precious! I love the black velvet top to the one dress - that is something my 12 y.o. self would have wanted as well!

That is so cute! I used to draw the biggest, froofiest wedding gowns - and the gown I ended up wearing was NOTHING like what kiddy-me had wanted. :)

Haha, these are so cute! And I love that you’ve been thinking about your wedding for so long. As a little girl, I always dreamed of not having a wedding. Oh well! I guess that’s how things work out. :) I’m glad Mr. P talked me into it.

Obsessed is an understatement. I’ve been stocking the hive for years but just got engaged less than 3 weeks ago. I’ve planned friends and families wedding from begining to end and the friends that claimed they didn’t need my help, well they needed my help sooner or later. I’ve become the wedding go to girl. It’s a labor of love though. I realized that after a “not very close friend” asked me to help and months later ended up wanting to change my phone number or worse, some day I would wish I would witness a horrible crime so I could enroll for witness protective services and move far away. That wedding is behind me now and I can say I did learn a lot from it. As I do each wedding.

I wasn’t a kid who dreamed about HER wedding, but I’ve always thought I’d be good at wedding planning, and I like to think that my wedding proved me right. I’m hoping to get in to wedding planning some time in the future too.
