Our apartment is beginning to fill with items for our wedding. Now don’t worry; we aren’t at Hoarders level yet. I am in no danger of getting crushed by a falling stack of programs in the living room or swallowed by a sea of washi tape hidden behind the pantry door. However, there are favor cards in the desk. There are invitation samples on the bookshelf. There is a sparkly hair clip in the medicine cabinet. And there are three new shoe boxes in my closet. That’s right. I have purchased three pairs of shoes for one occasion.
(And I almost bought another pair today. PSA: Nordstrom Rack at the Howard Hughes Center in Los Angeles has two pairs of white satin Jimmy Choo pumps for $49.99. Size 38.5/8.5 and 41/11.)
The shoe hoard
Let’s open these babies up for a closer look.

Left to right: Kate Spade “Ollie,” Boutique 9 “Karyl,” Charles by Charles David “Finch”
It was never my intention to buy more than one pair of shoes for my wedding—especially since I love my original pair so much! They are blush-colored patent peep-toes. They fit our wedding style and my personal style. But I jumped the gun: I bought the Boutique 9 shoes before I bought my wedding dress. It didn’t occur to me back in May that the dress that I would buy in July would be a sample dress cut for someone who was 5’10″ or so. I am a smidge over 5’7″ without shoes. The Boutique 9 heels are 3.25″ tall. Whoops.
The too-high (???) heels
I bought my second pair of shoes at the Charles David store at the Beverly Center. I immediately spotted the huge SALE sign in the window. Shortly thereafter, I saw these light sage green patent flats (the website lists them as taupe, but they are the greenest taupe that I have ever seen). They match our wedding colors. They were 50% off. I scooped them up and practically skipped out of the store. Maybe flats were the answer! It’s not a long walk from the Wynn to the Venetian, but I want to avoid blisters. After all, I want to be a beaming bride, not a grimacing one. Plus I need to remember our home reception in Wisconsin in February: won’t flats be nicer on the snow and ice?
The comfy flats
Fresh off of my flats high (har har!), I stumbled upon my third pair of shoes at Neiman Marcus. As indicated above, I am a sucker for deals. I bought these metallic gold and pearl flats for 70% off. They are going to look great with my dress that I will wear both to the courthouse (marriage license!) and to our rehearsal dinner. They also look great at book club; I clearly wasn’t able to save these in the box! I even wore them to the Los Angeles bee meet-up, which Miss Warbler organized.
The shoes I was unable to save until January
OK, Miss Mole, so what’s the problem? It seems like the Charles David flats are the best fit for the wedding day, right? Well, I discovered at my first alterations appointment that I have lost so much weight that my dress now lays flatter on me—and thus seems longer. So much longer, in fact, that my dress now needs a hem. I need to make a decision on which shoes I wear before I go in for my next appointment.
I’m turning to you guys for help. Help me decide which shoes to wear! I’d really appreciate your votes.
