It’s one thing to have colors, it’s another to have a theme to accompany it. At least, this is what I have been telling myself for the past four or five months. With our wedding growing ever nearer (less than five months now!), Mr. D and I are starting to really explore our decor options when it comes to our reception. We are having a simple and sweet ceremony, but that definitely will not be our reception (well, at least not the simple part!). The building that we are holding our reception has a downstairs and an upstairs. Since we are having a smaller wedding, we booked the downstairs of the venue. While it’s not dark and dank, it isn’t open and spacious either. It’s caused us to have to think creatively in order to create an amazing atmosphere in which to celebrate our wedding. Because of the lower ceilings and lack of windows, we are going for an intimate and cozy feeling.

So how are we going to create this atmosphere, and what is the grand theme that we are going with? Well my dear friends, let’s take a walk among my inspiration photos, shall we?
Mr. D’s mother owns an antique shop, so I knew that we were going to be utilizing that resource when coming up with our wedding decor.
I have always been in love with milk glass. I know that it’s really popular right now, but I like to think that I would have done it even if it wasn’t the in thing to do. I mean, how precious is this?

Instead of the moss balls, we will be doing large white poms with each of the vases. Our vases are all different sizes and shapes, making each table unique. Especially because we will also be utilizing the numerous vintage books that Mr. D’s mom has around her shop as well. When I saw these pictures, I knew that I had to find a way for them, and I will be able to on the tables where the vases are lower (to give them a little boost up!):

I will also be incorporating the use of doilies in our wedding decor. I had actually planned on this before I was even accepted to be a bee and thus became Miss Doily. I LOVE doilies. I love how lacy and sweet they are. Plus they are so completely versatile and can be used so many different ways. Here are some of the ways that I am planning on using my lacy namesake:

All of these will be sitting on table that look a lot like this:

(I just love that site because you can see all kinds of tablescapes and how you can play with the colors!) My favorite part of this is the little dash of green! Lime is one of those colors that can so easily overpower everything else, so I wanted to use it in little punches!
I’m hoping that all of this tied together will create a romantic and vintage feeling. We also have uplighting in our package with our DJ, so I am still not sure what color we are going to go with. We might go with a cool blue to go with the color scheme, or a rosy pink for a romantic tone, or even a goldish yellow to match the vintage ambiance. Now I honestly have no idea how all of this will look together. I’m hoping fantastic, but you just never know. When it gets a little closer, I will do some mock-ups to see if they look completely terrible. If they do, then I will just go back to the simple vase, candles, and chargers. Hopefully though, my idea will be awesome and I can see it through!
How did your reception decor plan come to be? Was it everything you hoped it would be, or was it a flop? What do you think about my plan?
