Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
About Miss Fox

Miss Fox, LMT, TB

November 3rd, 2011 @ 10:36 am by Miss Fox

(That doesn’t mean I have tuberculosis. It actually stands for: Miss Fox, Licensed Massage Therapist, Tattooed Bride.)

While we’re on the topic of tattoos…

…you may have noticed that I have a few visible ones. If you guessed neck, foot, forearm, and wrist, you win the Where’s Waldo prize!

Now I have no idea if I’ve already mentioned this, but I’m not planning on covering any of them up for the big day. Many a friend/family member/fellow bride has stared at me all googly eyed over this decision…but it really wasn’t a decision for me as much as it was a given.

The way I see it, if I didn’t like my tattoos and/or thought I should cover them up at the wedding? Well, shame on me, because I shouldn’t have gotten them in the first place. Now of course this is a personal decision, but in my mind? They are a part of me and a part of the way I “express myself”—it’s only natural that they will be out in proud display.

I personally find that placement is just as important as the actual tattoo. I actually kind of pride myself on my tattoos and my own tattoo placement; none of them were decided on or thought about lightly. There’s a definite reason why I don’t have one on my shoulder (yet), which is honestly the fact that that is one place I don’t think I want ink to be seen on my wedding day. I would never get one around my ankle or on my calf/thigh because I simply don’t think I’d like the look of it on myself—it’s for some people, just not for me. As an aside, I also have this weird left/right thing…like I need to balance my tattoos out. I got my clover on my left foot, stars on my right neck, infinity on my left wrist, “Breathe” on my right forearm, and cherry blossoms on my left torso. I like the symmetry…? Sure.

As for the man, he has more tattoos than I do, and plans on expanding the visible ones on his right arm to create the outline of a sleeve by the time we get married.

Remember these? ;)

So long story short…yes, I am a tattooed bride (complete with tattooed groom!). And damn proud of it!

Are you or will you be a tattooed bride? Do you have differing opinions on the matter?

I like your POV on this! Although I don’t have any tattoos, why would you try to hide something that is a part of you?
Good for you! :)

I have a rather large tattoo on my right shoulder that is verrrrry visible with my strapless dress. It’s a very meaningful tattoo to me and I would never dream of covering it up! (My other two are completely hidden). The only thing I am thinking about is the ceremony….we are having a large Catholic ceremony and I worry that it isn’t very respectful, but I don’t want to use make-up to cover it…so I’m thinking a lace bolero (but in July??) or maybe a long cathedral length veil, just so it isn’t screamingly obvious during our ceremony….

I’ve always played with the idea of a tattoo, but too scared I’ll end up regretting it. I do remember when I got my cartilage pierced at the top of my ear in highschool and my mom said “when you get married you are going to hate this!”. Well mom, I don’t hate it after it! I agree that if you have body mods and love them, why would you cover them on your wedding?

I have four tattoos total. Only one will be visible for my wedding, the one on my shoulder (unless I end up with a bolero or something). And I am comfortable with that.

I agree. If you love them, flaunt them! I think the issue is if you have a visable one you DO regret…that could be an issue. But if you love them, then everyone else can view them, too!

Agreed! We both have tattoos, although none of them will be visible for our wedding. Mr. Mole has a large calf tattoo (running from the back of his knee to the back of his ankle), and I have a tattoo on my back.

I love a tattooed bride! My sister (MOH) is wearing a sleeveless dress and has a full colored sleeve as well as other random tattoos. My FMIL made some statement about how we need to look for a shawl for MOH to wear - gasp! - someone might see the tattoos! Heh - I just explained that I like her tattoos and if she wanted to have bare arms - they’d look really funky in our pictures.

I was a tattooed bride, and all my BMs were tattooed as well! Hubs doesn’t have any yet, and I am hoping that I can get a half sleeve here in the not too far future :)

I’m a TB too. :) I have a pretty large tattoo on my left ankle/foot and a little one behind my left ear. I don’t think either of my tattoos will show on my wedding day…but I’m not purposely trying to hide them…just the combination of a long dress and loose hair will probably conceal them. I agree that if you are going to get a tattoo in the first place, you should be proud enough to show them on your wedding day!

The bigger “dilemma” I’m trying to decide right now is whether or not to remove my nose ring. I’ve had it for 4 years now, but I’m going to have to stop wearing it soon anyway for “professional” reasons…so I’m not sure whether that little piece of jewelry will make an appearance at my wedding this summer or not. Still have to make up my mind on that one!

all but one of my tattoos are going to be visible. I’m purposely going to do my hair a certain way so you can see the tattoo behind my ear. I have a quote that i live my life by and my business is named after across both of my wrists, the only one you can’t see is the one on my hip. My bm has one on her fore arm that will be showing during our wedding and the other bm has one on her foot that will be showing as well. I completely agree i knew when i got mine that they where going to be visible and i thought long and hard about what i was getting and where they where going to be on my body. i like that you can see them and i think if you got them you should love them enough to rock them on your wedding day!

@gentelly: I think a lace bolero would be lovely!! Even if it’s July, if it’s inside, you should be fine!
@Miss Elk: That’s too funny about the ear cartilage piercing - I feel like everyone has one now, myself included. Haven’t regretted it for a second!
@soyjoy222: Exactly. =D
@lmoss78: I agree with you.. I think tats look awesome in pictures - it’s always a little pop and something different. It’s who you are.
@msbadger7: So funny you mention a nose ring.. I just got mine pierced three months ago and am so psyched that I’ll have it for the wedding! My only issue is that it’s healing a bit funky (”the dreaded bump”) and I’m hoping it will calm down and I’ll be able to change the stud (it’s kind of large right now) before the big day.
@totheislnds: Ohh a rebel Catholic bride. Love it!! I have no doubt that you looked just stunning.

Yay! Another post of yours that I completely relate to and therefore, LOVE!! I’m a TB as well - I have 10 tattoos, most of which can be covered up…except for the huge tat on my left upper arm…oh…and the one on my neck….and the ones on my feet….scratch that, most of them are visible. I definitely have the left/right thing going on as well!! I always have to “even” myself out.

I say, ROCK THOSE TATS! I’m sure gonna. :)

I have on but it is hidden all the time. Mr. Ballcap has several, all on his bicep / shoulder area. While you won’t see them on our wedding day, we have been discussing getting more after the wedding!

I agree don’t cover them up! They are a part of you and in some way represent you and a time in your life or some memory. My dream is after the wedding to get a small mini girly sleeve!!

I personally have no tattoos, but why should people balk at you showing yours at your wedding?

I’m a tattooed bride! And so if my FI. I say don’t cover them up, they’re you! I have a large back piece in particular that creeps up the back of my neck so it would definitely be seen. They photograph well too hehe =D

@futuremrswifey: I’m glad I’m not the only one with the symmetry! You made me laugh at the amount of tats you will “not” (aka will) have showing. ;) Rock ‘em lady!
@Miss Sunhat: Do it!! I know that Foxy is determined to make some of his tats show at the wedding.. probably in the form of cuffed sleeves.
@Aud1628: I’m with you on small mini girly sleeve.. I kind of like them and I know Foxy would be THRILLED if I ever got one!
@Future Army Wife: Some people just don’t “approve” - I get flack from my childhood dance teacher every. single. time. I see her. It gets annoying!
@kitlaai: Ohh I bet that will look so sassy! I personally think my cherry blossoms on my torso photograph the best - I had a mini photoshoot in Mexico last year and they just looked SO awesome in every pic!
@Mrs. Jaguar: It’s funny because I was SO nervous with my first one (small clover on my foot), but then I realized what they say is true: you get hooked and keep wanting more. I don’t know what it is!
