This post is not about the life-changing commitment of marriage or some epic wedding idea that I have concocted. It is just about a simple little thing that makes me smile. I was reading a post on the boards about how it sometimes feels like people have lost all sense of common decency, let alone over-the-top friendliness. I do think this is the case far too often, and the rant was fully warranted, but it got me thinking about the flip side (apparently today was a glass half full kind of day). I got to thinking about the little something extras that a stranger has done to turn my week around, brighten my day, or just make me pause for a moment and smile. You know, warm fuzzies.

The first warm fuzzy that popped into my mind was kind notes that sellers have included when sending me a package. My rate of online purchasing has increased substantially since venturing into the wonderful world of wedding planning, particularly from smaller stores and marketplaces (yes Etsy, I’m looking at you). Some of the products I have received have come with notes in the package. And I’m not just talking lukewarm fuzzies that read “Thanks for your purchase.” I’m talking personalized, genuine notes. When I ordered some extra fabric for our table toppers (which may be turning into table runners, but that’s a story for another post) from QuiltHome.com, I looked at my receipt and saw this handwritten on the bottom of the page:

“Hi Lauren, Thank you for ordering from us. I hope you enjoy your beautiful fabric. Have fun on your lovely project.”
Major warm fuzzy.
Now, maybe I am just falling for their clever marketing scheme to get me to make a positive association and shop there again. I have been told I am a marketer’s dream: if you make it look shiny and pretty and tell me that I need it, I am pretty much convinced that it is worth every penny you are going to charge me. But I am choosing to believe that this one goes beyond marketing and into kindness. Perhaps hope of return patronage is on their list of reasoning (and I’m fine with that, we all need to earn a living) but I am choosing to believe that the list also includes appreciation for my purchase and sincere hope that I will enjoy the product and put it to good use.
What warm fuzzies have you come across lately?
