Mrs. Lioness's Picture
Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
About Mrs. Lioness

Love is Where We Are: First Dance

November 4th, 2011 @ 9:32 am by Mrs. Lioness

Our portraits were complete and cocktail hour was winding down. It was time to start the party! Before I get into that, allow me to share one tangential piece of advice: We chose these cheese grits ball things as one of our hors d’oeuvres. We never sampled them, but they sounded delicious and they were consistent with our “classy comfort food” menu. Our guests raved about them, but we never got to try them. If your venue offers a to go box to freeze and enjoy after your honeymoon, make sure delicious hors d’oeuvres are included too!

Anyway, our reception began with a grand entrance from our bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Some of them did a little jig…

Some of them changed into Toms, making their height difference even more awkward (yet, still unbelievably adorable)…

When Mr. Lion and I made our entrance, he decided to give me a little spin. Unfortunately, he forgot to warn me about this. I tripped over my dress and almost fell down.

We laughed, and moved on.

After all, he was just excited.

Next, it was time for our first dance. We danced to Two Drops in the Ocean by our favorite band, 311. It was a little difficult to dance to, but we loved the lyrics so much that we couldn’t resist.

Here’s something I didn’t realize about first dances: they start to drag. Additionally, given my history of dancing and Mr. Lion’s Latin heritage, I think our guests expected us to bust into some choreographed routine. To their disappointment, we did no such thing. It got kind of awkward, so we just started to chat.

The problem with talking while cameras are flashing is that you never know how your “talking face” will turn out! Sometimes talking looks like this…

But sometimes talking looks like this…

Attractive. Despite some of our entertaining candid shots, my favorite photo from our first dance is a posed one:

What are you dancing to for your first dance? Are you planning a choreographed routine or are you just going to wing it?

I ran over doing something hilarious or serious in my mind so many times! Given that I have been to a number of weddings where the first dance was so…..yawn… but, for my dance, if your board, your board..its our dance! We are dancing to “Harvest Moon” - Neil Young. We fell in love with this song together and have always wanted it, plus its a great song to dance to over and over again for every anniversary :) perfect

I love how happy and fun your first dance was- some of my favourites were the candids, but man, did I face pull! That last pic is STUNNING - wish I’d thought to get one like that! :)

How could you not eat cheesy grits? I would’ve thrown a temper tantrum to get some, haha.

@teresa1083w: Thank you! I actually get it colored. I go to an Aveda salon here in Atlanta. It took a few tries to find the right shade of red pre-wedding, but I’m SO in love with it! Every time I get my hair done, she asks me if I want to do something different and I just say, “Nope, just the wedding color again!” :)
