STD WIN!

November 4th, 2011 @ 1:16 pm by Miss Elk

After falling off the DIY horse with my first save-the-date attempt, I was really reluctant to jump back on the saddle and give it another shot. I started surfing the interwebs for purchasable save the dates, no assembly required. Here’s some of the eye candy I found.

Loved these from Etsy:

Rifle Paper Company has most definitely stolen my heart:

Rifle Paper Co.

These Minted STDs are so close! But the colors are all wrong…

Although these designs were more than adequate, there was no space available to provide hotel information to our guests, which was an important purpose of sending out our save the dates in the first place. Therefore, even though I was shaking in my boots, I headed to the craft store.

First I found these awesomely shiny gold envelopes from Michaels:

Next I decided I would use the Minted design as a starting off point, and set up a page in PowerPoint to be able to print two copies of the card per page. I found a pretty image of a peony and added it next to the date, then reversed the image and added it on the other side of the date:

Then I made another slide to house eight insert cards per page, each with hotel information. I found a coordinating flower design and added it to each insert.

Finally, I printed them out, cut them to size, rounded corners (it is truly an addiction!), and stuffed. Here is the finished project!

And my favorite part: I didn’t even mean to do this, but doesn’t it look so cute when you open the envelope and see our names?

I’m surprisingly happy with how this project turned out, especially considering what a massive failure the first edition turned out to be! And with that, I’m definitely back on the DIY wagon!

Did a DIY failure set you back or did you jump right back in and try again?

These look great!! That first pic was one of my STD inspirations as well. =D Aaand I took a similar route and made my own version of several of Minted’s designs - they’re so pretty, but the price tags sure aren’t. I think you did a beyond amazing job!

Aww I love the Rifle paper co! I saw Anna’s designs for her own wedding invite about a year ago and I think her designs are beautiful!

Oh so cute! Now what to do with the pencils? I’ve been considering the pencil save the dates but the postage is hindering me. I don’t think a yellow padded envelope is going to be cute
