What Are You Wearing Under There?

November 7th, 2011 @ 9:40 am by Mrs. Mole

Underwear! Yes, this is a post about underwear. Woo? Woo! After I made a decision about my dress, I was then faced with the question of what I was going to wear under my dress. Luckily for me, I had the dress at home in my closet. This meant that I was able not only to have impromptu fashion shows (and mirror photo shoots) but also to try out a variety of undergarments in preparation for alterations.

A reminder of my dress, an example of said mirror photo shoots

My dress is strapless, so I knew that I had a few options: wearing a strapless bra, sewing in built-in cups, or going braless. I wasn’t at all excited about the third option. I wear a 34/36C, and I always feel a little awkward (read: jiggly) going braless. I was also a little worried about the second option. The consultant at the store warned me that sewing cups into this specific dress might not give me much support. My wedding day is one time that I don’t want to worry about adjusting or fixing or smooshing things back into place. So option one it was!

When I went shopping for a strapless bra, I also had to keep another aspect of my dress in mind: the back. The very looooooow back. I tried on some bustiers and long-line bras at Macy’s and Nordstrom; however, I wasn’t having much luck searching on my own. So I turned to my sister for some help. She works for Victoria’s Secret, and she was able to point me in the right direction. I ended up buying the Back Off Baby Low-back Bustier, which she also wore for her own wedding in September! It fits perfectly under my own dress. More importantly, it passed a test run under another strapless dress last month at a friend’s wedding. It kept me lifted and supported. I put it on and did not have to think about it again until it was time to take it off.

My sister also gifted me a royal blue Lacie thong as my something blue. It adds a little bit of sexiness to my otherwise (very) beige underthings.

All together now

What are you wearing under your wedding dress? Are you wearing something “bridal”—or something more utilitarian?

I just bought my undergarment yesterday! I avoided VS as I thought “too expensive”, spent an hour and a half wasting time looking in other stores, then came to my senses, got sized and brought a bra (and a lacy nightie, whoo whoo) and was done twenty minutes later. Victoria really knows her stuff!

I haven’t decided on panties yet but I love yours!
Not wearing a bra. My dress laces up and I had the girls augmented when I was 18 so I’m good to go there. :)

This is good to know because the back of my dress is super low too. I’ve been worrying I’ll buy something that will still show. I’ll have to check out Vicky’s.

Fun fact: I purchased the exact same bra from VS, and was super excited about it, and then when I tried it on with my dress (which fit perfectly with a different bra), that baby would not zip for the life of me! VS added too much padding (shocking…) and there was no way it was happening. So I’m glad yours fit under your dress!

I’ve got a corset bra for under my dress, and I found purple underwear for under my dress and Luvees!

Warning: Try on those blue panties in lots of different lighting.

My close friend and BM planned to wear blue panties with her dress, and at home it looked fine. She got to the church, under the higher lighting, and suddenly those blue panties were VERY visible!

Her mom had to rush home to grab a pair of nude panties!

@Coffeecake: VS bras are really hit or miss for me, so I was pleasantly surprised when the bustier fit so well! I am definitely going back there for some honeymoon lingerie.
@luvmyDwight: Haha! These panties are really comfortable too. I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t have any…malfunctions under my dress.
@ms. supernova: I definitely recommend it!
@Miss Porcupine: I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find anything that was low enough AND under 100 bucks. VS did the trick.
@Lindsay: Oh no! Sorry it didn’t work out in the end! My dress has plenty of room up top still, so I could probably even pad another cup size or two if I were so inclined. ;)
@Beth2010: I’ve heard great things about those Luvees!
@tinylittlebird: Ohhh nooooooooo! I will definitely have to test that out. My dress has a layer of crinoline inside around that area, so I am hoping that I will be okay.
@Cecilia: Those panties are so cute! I had to get a pair of those as well.

Thank you for posting this! I am really wondering how this didn’t come up in my Google search for “nude low-back bustier.” Seems like it should have been one of the first ones to pop up. Go figure!

I’m probably getting the same thing to wear under my dress! Like yours, it has a low back and the girls NEED some support.. this bra is a great option!
