Short Hairdo Inspirations!

November 8th, 2011 @ 7:02 am by Mrs. Mole

So you know how I was wondering about growing my hair long(er) for our upcoming wedding? Everyone who commented (thanks, by the way!) gave me such good advice on the importance of feeling and looking like myself on that day. So, on Thursday, I made a hair appointment at a local salon, and I walked out with this:

The basket at the top of the bookshelf is Halloween candy I am avoiding.

I love this haircut. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, both literally and metaphorically. I made two follow-up haircut appointments between now and the wedding, so that settles any debate!

Anyway, I looked through all of the links and websites that the hive gave me. I found some great hairstyle ideas. I also stumbled across three more sources of inspiration here on Weddingbee, so I am going to pay things back.

First of all, I love the way that Mrs. Cheese was able to turn her angled bob into a pseudo-updo at her hair trial. Her wedding hair turned out to be equally gorgeous!

Second, I stumbled upon Mrs. Stiletto‘s post about her own short vs. long hair debate. She had some great inspiration photos, but the one that really stuck with me was the following:

I immediately bookmarked this photo—and then saved it on my phone and on my computer and on Mr. Mole’s computer, just in case! (This degree of file safety is a hint of which direction I might be leaning.) Focus on the style, not the caption: I love my short hair, and I am not trying to create a trick or illusion—Arrested Development/Gob reference, anyone?—that my hair is long.

Mix the above photo with a little bit more volume and a little less polish, and I could end up with something like Carrie Underwood’s hairstyle here:

How did you find your hair inspiration? Did you use wedding blogs, celebrity photos, etc.?

Haha yay for arrested development references (as the final countdown plays in my head lol). I love the Carrie Underwood hairspiration! She seems to be a favorite for wedding hair styles :)

I struggled to find a style for short hair that was “fancy” enough to be bridal, but didn’t look too far compared to my everyday style. I think adding some type of hair piece– flowers, bling, headband, etc. helps add something to make your style stand out. Best of luck! :)

@natbug21: I should probably try to find her wedding photos too; she always looks so stylish!
@Mrs. Red Sox: Thank you! Getting my hair cut short always makes me feel so good that I wonder why I don’t do it more often.
@Mrs. Pony: Haha! We quote Gob to our dog all of the time. It made puppy obedience class even more ridiculous.
@Miss Dalmatian: Thanks! I’ll have to do some experiments in front of the bathroom mirror to see which ones will work.
@mrsdooks: That sounds like an awesome date! I’ll have to get Mr. Mole down there for a weekend trip.
@twinkieman: Thanks! I think that’s a good idea. What did you end up finding for yourself?
@Mrs. Jam: Yes! Thanks!

i had hair barely to my shoulder for my sisters wedding, and the whole time, i planned to just keep it down and curled/styled. Her hair stylist was able to do ringlet curls all over my head and pinned up all my hair, making it look like an actual updo. short haired beauties can definitely get their hair to be an “up-do”! the front of my hair looked very similar to all the photos in the post (side part with bangs loose)

I will be wearing a bling broach and pinning it behind on of my ears. The back was mostly pinned curls to have the look of an updo, with a soft sweep in the front.

@Danielle: I bet your hair looked really pretty like that! Thanks for letting me know that pseudo-updos actually work. :)
@twinkieman: That sounds lovely! I might have to get myself something sparkly for my hair. Where did you find yours?

I am in love with your haircut it almost makes me want to chop all my hair off! I think you will be able to find a hairstyle that will work for you, there’s so many things a hairstylist can do to make it look like an updo, trust me my sister is a hairstylist!

I’m so jealous of your hair! It is freakin’ adorable! I’m taking the scissors to my mane the day after the wedding if I can find the time!
