About Miss Hawk

Once Upon a Time…

November 9th, 2011 @ 2:40 pm by Miss Hawk

The mister’s and my relationship didn’t start off like the typical fairy tale. We met New Year’s Eve 2007 when a friend brought him along to our apartment. I was there with my then-boyfriend. We went out to the bar and I paid him no mind, but he apparently left quite an impression on one of my best friends. At some point in the night, they got into a heated discussion. She was quite annoyed with him. So when she later posted pictures from the night out, she cropped him out of the shot and even made some sassy comment like, “Yeah, I cropped that guy out.”  We later started hanging out in a group on the regular, and he called her out on the photo incident. Luckily he has a good sense of humor! Who would have known that “that guy she cropped” would one day become my future hubby?

Fast forward a few New Year’s Eves and relationships later, and I found myself confessing my crush on him in the kitchen at his buddy’s birthday party. He claims he called me immediately the next day, but I have no recollection of that. (Sorry, Mr. Hawk. If I don’t remember it, it must not have happened. ;) ) Not long after that we started to spend more one-on-one time together. Sparks flew and we fell in love. (Cue Disney music and singing birds…)

I’m obviously ecstatic with the way things turned out between Mr. Hawk and me, but we never had a “first date.” We weren’t even sure of the day we made our relationship official. I guess our relationship just developed out of a friendship and turned into something more when the time was right.

How did you meet your significant other? Was it unconventional or a Disney-worthy romance from the start?

I have to say, this kind of cracks me up. My story of getting together with my fiance is very similar, except we got together sort of around New Year’s instead of meeting then… and I’m pretty sure he was wearing the same pinstriped shirt at that New Year’s as your FI is wearing in that photo. Silliness!

My story is kinda similiar, just it happened over St. Patricks Day (its a big party day in pittsburgh) instead of New Years.

All that matters is you’re together now!

I met my FI online, and drove down to visit him for my spring break. We had one dinner together, and it kind of just clicked. The next day he surprised me by taking me to Downtown Disney for lunch and to go to Goofy’s Candy Shop to get something made together. It was amazing.
Although we were both interesting in one another, we didn’t define the relationship for a while because of the distance. Through persistence on both of our parts it just turned into something worth holding on to.
So, I think it was a little unconventional, but Disney-esque as well :)

I love yours!

I met Mr. Giraffe online. We were in highschool. And he was kind of stalking me. He knew where my locker was (his best friends was next to mine; and he helped me get my stuff out of the top, same as you, I don’t remember, it didn’t happen). It was near the end of the year, so we just celebrate memorial day.

Love the story! I met my fiance while interning at the same company :) He had just gotten out of a long-term [crazy] relationship and wasn’t interested in dating :( fast forward a couple years out we are moved into a new state and newly engaged! So, no fairy tale beginning here but we will have “happily ever after”!

We met at a college party. I texted him a few nights later after a few drinks. We like to keep it classy, haha.

My Fiance and I met once years prior but then while he was deployed to Iraq he contacted me by email. After a few months I couldn’t think of anyone else but we still hadn’t even talked on the phone or seen eachother in 6 years, and I didn’t think he was interested in anything anyway. Three days after he sent flowers and scheduled a spa day for me - he called. I flew to Europe for Our first date while he was on Mid Tour and then we had 5 1/2 months til we saw each other again. We are getting married three years after our First Date.

I think the best way to develop a relationship is through a friendship, but I may be a little biased. :) I actually got to know my boyfriend 7 years ago because my friend wanted me to talk to him for her because she was interested. Instead of her ever talking to him herself, she started making out with all of the baseball team at our college. So after a few months of putting in a good word for her, we stopped pretending there wasn’t something there and just eased into dating. We never had a first date and we ended up just deciding our anniversary was the date of our first kiss. And like you, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. :) Congrats on your engagement and I’m looking forward to hearing your wedding planning adventures!

I’m loving reading everyone’s stories!

@gogogiraffes: Aww, high school sweethearts!

@xiomara ortiz: Happily ever after is the most important part, I think. :)

@Future Army Wife: Haha. I think most college relationships start out like that!

@jmbass: I’m glad that the friendship-turned-relationship worked out for y’all. Like you, I’m kinda a big fan. :)

Mrs Hawk — May what?? I am May 5th!!

Ohh, we met in a very inconventional way Then normal.
Yes - we met twice!

The first time. I was out with girlfriends, having drinks at a little mexican cabana that we used to go to every Thursday night. One night as the girls and I were getting up to take a group pic a guy from the next table was walking to the bathroom, i grabbed him and pulled him into the pic!!
Picture was taken, and i was never to see this guy again, nor give him a second thought.
At this point in my life I was a bartender. Well, a friend of mine, or, regular at the bar who became my friend, Julie - one night she brought her nephew in for his 21st birthday. Us bartenders showed him a good evening (with drinks) and near the end of the night, he musturd up the courage to ask for my number. I gave it to him, He was indeed kinda cute ;) And actually I dont remember him giving me his number, but he did.
Well, he actually LOST my number. BUT - in the forces of the universe, i wanted to text him and ask if he was feeling ok from the night before. We began to text and hang out a little.
One day as I was putting my pics on facebook, i realized…. this “guy” that i had pulled in looked oddly familiar…. So I called this guy from the bar up, and told him to “hurry, add me as your facebook friend and look at this picture!!” He did and It was HIM!!!
Pretty much history from there! :)

The story of my FI and me is a rather unromantic one…

We met at a college party courtesy of a girl who’d had a few too many and ended the night taking her to the nearest hospital. We then began talking because he was interested in my then-roommate. Eventually we became friends but it was rather one-sided, because he liked me (and at that point had realized he wanted to date me) but I actually hated him and found him really irritating.
It became a game of him wearing me down, asking me to date him, until I finally said “yes”.

(And then of course I said yes to the big question later on…)
