Un Deux Trois…

November 9th, 2011 @ 1:07 pm by Miss Elk

Obviously, I am counting my table numbers…duh! I’ve gone through a lot of ideas about what to do to number our tables. My favorite idea has pretty much always been the ever popular frame-with-fabric-and-glued-on-wooden-number dealio.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find beautiful frames that didn’t cost an arm and leg, and so I decided to explore other options for table numbers. Then one day the fabulously famous Hobby Lobby opened near my house, and I decided to explore; and I had a moment of genius!

I could take these fabulously oversized papier mache numbers, decoupage them, and turn them into modern table numbers with a floral twist! So I brought a few home and started cutting out decorative paper I happened to have. Then I brushed on Mod Podge (which is like a watered down glue mixture that dries clear) and applied the paper, brushing over the paper as well.

(And yes that is a scientific paper under there that I should have been reading…)

Finally, I let them dry. (And it is really important to let them dry before flipping! Otherwise the wet glue will stick to whatever you have underneath and ruin the nice finish you otherwise would have had.) And here you can see two of the numbers I made:

I really think they will make an awesome addition to our tables. Not everyone is as excited by these as I am, though. Mama Elk seems to think they are overpoweringly large.

Therefore, I leave it up to you!

I think they’re awesome! Once you put flowers or whatnot in those vases, it won’t seem so overwhelming. :)

I totally agree with ookbob - once there is more in the vases on a table it won’t seem so large. Plus you need it to be big enough that grandma won’t complain about not being able to see it. Also I’m a big fan of mod podge too - except I like the glittery kind because it hides flaws more! Love the idea!

They are great. I love that they are still so chic. I may have to jack this one.

I also used those same table numbers at my wedding. I just left them as is. They were a huge hit and i felt like they really made the tables. Good Choice!

Love them! Also, beautiful frames that don’t cost an arm and a leg = persistent perusing at Goodwill and Salvation Army. And a little spraypaint. Presto Chango!

Ahh, I love this! My centerpieces will be modest, so this is a perfect idea for adding to the tables…I may have to steal this one :)

Yay! I’m glad everyone likes these, but my mom is still pretty adamant that they should be smaller. Maybe I’ll buy the slightly smaller versions (not teeny tiny)

Oooh they look fabulous - surely next to your centrepieces they won’t look so big?

I love these! I would say go ahead and try the next size down just to make sure you are comfortable, but they are lovely! We are using some paper mache letters for decor. They are almost done!

So cute. I’d never thought of using those. I’m voting for wine bottles with number labels. Kill two birds with one stone, right?

Those are seriously stunning. I think it is totally fine that they are so big because they are so beautiful!
