The Finishing Touches

November 9th, 2011 @ 5:49 am by Miss Doily

Now that I have chosen my dress, it’s time for me to really start pulling together my total wedding look. We all know that I already have my shoes picked out (which I still pull out occasionally to admire). I know that they don’t really match the style of my dress, but I love the thought that I put into them, what they represent, and that they will be comfortable.

I already have a necklace in mind for the day of:

This necklace was owned by Mr. D’s sister, and is now in my posession. I really want to wear it as a reminder of her and to have a way to keep her near me on our wedding day, since she cannot be there. I think that it will look really nice with the v-neck line, and it’s a meaningful piece of jewelery to have near my heart.

I will also have a little something sewn into the underside  of my dress:

Some of you may or may not recognize this. This is an Airborne patch. My brother is part of one of the Airborne units in the US Army. That’s right, he jumps from planes, voluntarily, on a pretty regular basis. The kid is crazy! I already wrote about my bittersweet situation with my brother, and I wanted to make sure that he was also with me on my wedding day. He gave Mr. D the patch that was given to him when he graduated paratrooper school and became part of his unit, because Mr. D was a big support system for him while he was in bootcamp and beyond. Mr. D is lending me the patch so I can have something of my baby brother with me on our big day.

The only part of my ensemble missing is my veil and my earrings. My veil I unfortunately cannot reveal yet, because it’s not done! It’s being made by a very special person, and I can’t wait to share it with you when it’s done!

What I can share with you are my top contenders for my earrings. I wanted something that dangled only a little, if at all, wasn’t overly large, and was simple with a vintage touch.

So what do you think about my wedding day look? Which would you pick to go with my vintage style dress and birdcage veil? Did you find it easy or difficult to pull your wedding day look together?

I love those first earrings, so delicate and pretty! I had a really hard time pulling together my look and didn’t decide on my necklace until the morning of our wedding, so you have plenty of time :)

The first ones (earrings). Definitely. I think the lace would really tie in well!

I love the circle necklaces and I love the patch to represent your brother, so sweet! I’m loving the first and second pair of earrings, but I’m sure whatever you pick will be perfect.

The first pair of earrings are to die for - they almost (almost!) make me want to switch my wedding day look away from pearls!

I love that you have found ways to include your brother and FSIL in the wedding even though they can’t be physically present.
