Dress Shopping: The Ultimate High

November 10th, 2011 @ 12:20 pm by Miss Elk

I…am…an…addict. Yes, I admit it, I am addicted to wedding-dress shopping. For almost a full month after getting engaged I did not allow myself to walk into a bridal salon. I knew that Mama Elk would be hurt if I began the search without her, and since we were five hours apart and I was on my surgery rotation, there was no way we could get together until I was on break from school. When I did finally allow myself to begin the dress-search process, I became crazed. I would walk into a bridal salon and, in a frenzy, rummage the racks. I would pull three dresses at a time, dragging them in my wake. I did not listen to the advice of consultants. I was manic. I pulled dress after dress onto my body, sausaged into my Spanx.

I went to nine different salons in three different cities, some on multiple occasions. I tried on well over 50 dresses, all within a three-month period. While I never went to a blowout sale, or Kleinfelds for that matter, I feel that Monica sure represents who I was while dress shopping (read: crazy).

PS: Don’t you just love their version of Kleinfeld? I especially love how few brides are waiting and how unimpressive their version of the store looks!

So, back to my original point—going back through all these pictures of me in dresses is giving me a bit of a complex; I want to go shopping again! Please hive—don’t let me! I MUST NOT GO WEDDING-DRESS SHOPPING AGAIN! I have my dress, I love my dress, and soon you will see it and love it too. That is my mantra, and I will repeat it as necessary.

Did you get carried away while dress shopping?

I have only gone once so far…but it’s kind of awesome! I’m so excited to go again…but hope I don’t fall into a trap!

I haven’t gone yet, but I love shopping and I could see this happening to me. Also, that clip is fantastic!

I didn’t get overly carried away but pretty much daily I get that nagging question of “did I pick the right dress?! What if it’s the wrong one? What if it isn’t pretty enough? Should I have looked more?” It’s not fun. I understand. We all have this obsession to be perfect on our wedding day and the dress is a major part of that. I’m sure that the one that you got is the ONE and no more shopping is necessary. Can’t wait to see it!

I liked dress shopping for others much more than shopping for myself, I do wish I could wear my wedding dress all the time though.

I hear ya, it can be a difficult decision because there are so many amazing dresses, every time I turn around and see a different dress I’m back at square one!

Just wanted to say, that is what Kleinfelds used to look like at its location in Brooklyn (or so I have been told by those who got their dresses there). It was there till the 2005. Its sad that no one knows that and would assume Friends just made that up :(

I do enjoy they call it Kleimans…like “Please don’t sue us!” I also totally agree with the craziness.

I kind of wish I went shopping more than I did. One store and done for me!

I’m with Miss Sunhat! I only tried on around 10-12 dresses at two stores. I love my dress, but I kinda wish I had at least tried on a few more for fun!

I waited 2 months until my mom, cousin (Bridesmaid) n I went to an AWESOME salon!!! I was in such awe and starry eyed and am almost sure I found my dress. I went to a few other places and I cannot WAIT any longer to go into more stores.. problem being I have 2 years until our wedding so I’m trying my very very best to calm down and wait but omg it is nail bitingly hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely can relate because like Sunhat and Hawk, I was so focused and knew exactly what I wanted, that my dress shopping experience was over after only two appointments! Although I’m glad I knew what I wanted and didn’t mess around, it definitely would have been fun to shop around more and try on more beautiful dresses. But I agree with others–as tempting as it is, resist! You’ll be thankful you did when you don’t have dress regret. :)

I’ve gotten carried away with shopping online. I found a dress I love and will be trying on in two weeks. But I keep looking and keep falling in love with new dresses. And they’re all at different stores, blah.

I tried on about 75 dresses trying to find mine. I even shopped at one of the stores that you had in your posts! Once I tried on my dress, I finally knew it was right and was so happy to not try on another dress after that.

Haha you are too funny! There are millions of dresses in the world that you can go on forever! But just keep telling yourself that you love your dress…and if you have any doubts, just look at some pictures :-)
