Mrs. Thimble, NYC/Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie Wiz Engagement Date: August 22, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: The Pearl S. Buck House About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. A Thimble of My Love: Final Projects

November 11th, 2011 @ 3:41 pm by Mrs. Thimble

In the final week (or, lets be honest, several weeks) leading up to our wedding, the Thimble apartment in Queens was a flurry of crafts and projects. Or… to be even more honest, in the words of my MOH from LA who was seeing my digs for the first time, it was a disaster. How, after a 2-year engagement, did I manage to save bridesmaids’ gifts, out of town bags, favors and my wedding garters for the last couple weeks? Well… I uhmm ehh…

Let’s just continue on. I finally got out of our messy apartment in NYC and on the road with my Mom, my sis, and LA MOH, en route to Pennsylvania…

Where I was greeted with Autumnal wedding charm…

Where Thimble Dad was working on our homemade wedding cake…

Where I could keep calm with a campfire and a haunted hayride with best friends…

And where I had able and willing (and slightly obligatory bridesmaids’) hands to help me tie up last minute loose ends…

BM Trines and LA MOH tried to copy my handwriting to finish up escort cards. (I still adore these simple little floaty hearts, found in the last MSW I purchased before my wedding. Official tutorial here.) A freshly painted, thanks to MommaThimble, birdcage cardholder served as our centerpiece. Meanwhile, I stitched final alterations to my wedding day bolero and made a ribbon headband out of remnants of my mother’s wedding gown, (more on using her dress to come!). I was in my happy place: in my parents’ sunroom on a beautiful day with two besties, and with my dad taking pictures of our little wedding festivity. A moment of calm productivity before the storm of family/rehearsal/vendor-juggling fun to come.

Do you have a plan to avoid the last minute DIY rush? Or is it an age-old tale of the unavoidable?

I’ve been looking at stuff I want to do for our wedding in June. A lot of it is dependent upon the numbers of guests that we won’t know until May…

Where did you find the birdhouse that is in your last picture? I have been searching and found one but really like the one you have.

@Future Army Wife, I know I guess it is mostly unavoidable =)
@anon I think my mom picked it up at Marshalls/HomeGoods as one of those awesome finds. It was green to start and she spray painted it white.

My sister was just saying that she can’t believe how much we already have done since we are still 6 months out - but I have a feeling I will be DIYing right up until the last minute. I have a lot of ideas picked out, but that means a lot of projects ahead of me!

I second that, Miss Dalmation! I’m at the point where, When we used to say “Let’s try it!” has become “Let’s do it!” For instance, all my sillk flowers came the other day. My MOH and I got to work, separating all the types of flowers, and playing around with the designs, and VOILA!!! all of teh bouquets are done. All because, when she asked “How do you like what I’ve done here?” I said, “Love it! Tape it up and call it done!” ….and make 4 more please… :)

That birdhouse started out lime green, didn’t it? It looks exactly like the one we used! I found it at Winners, and the green was the perfect colour for our wedding. :)
