Mrs. Lioness, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Engagement Date: August 29, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Anthony’s Fine Dining About Me: I’m a Southern girl with New England roots. I say "wicked" and "y’all" in the same sentence and I like to drink sweet tea with my lobster. Mr. Lion and I are both former Floridians now living in Atlanta, which fortunately is still SEC country...Go Gators! We both love baseball, coffee, traveling, cooking, and playing Words with Friends with each other on our iPhones all day long. I’m very passionate about the things and the people I love, and I tend to plan things with all of my heart...our wedding, of course, is no different! Oh, and also Mr. Lion is a first generation American of Cuban descent. I may look more like Lucy than Ricky, but I’m doing my best to incorporate some Latin elements into our vintage-garden-Southern wedding!
About Mrs. Lioness

Love is Where We Are: Cake and Such

November 11th, 2011 @ 12:13 pm by Mrs. Lioness

Our wedding budget revolved around making enough room for food. We chose our venue based on their catering. I wanted our wedding to have an incredible seated lunch, decadent cupcakes for dessert, and a tasty candy buffet to serve as favors. Unfortunately, among our two photographers and all of our guest photos, I have yet to find any pictures of our lunch. The good news is that I have pictures of the rest of the food! First, this is what our tables looked like sans food…that is, here are our lovely centerpieces.

Some of our tables had this centerpiece: a mint julep cup filled with cotton blooms, white hydrangeas, white garden roses, yellow garden roses, and blue thistles.

The rest of our tables had this centerpiece: a vintage blue mason jar filled with white hydrangea, cotton blooms, fiddlehead ferns, and green hypericum berries.

Our grooms cake was Knightro, UCF’s mascot.

Our “cake” was a cupcake tree filled with strawberry, margarita, and red velvet cupcakes. The top tier of the tree was a strawberry cake. Rather than using a cake topper, each cupcake had a little pinwheel to indicate which flavor they were.

Our desserts were served family style (despite some initial arguing), so our cake display included a key to guide our guests in choosing their cake flavor.

Here’s another thing I didn’t realize about wedding receptions: cake cutting is difficult! First, we had to come up with a plan.

Then, we cut a sliver that ended up being ridiculously small…

…but, we enjoyed it anyway.

The final item on our menu was our candy buffet. You can read all about the breakdown here. We ended up with the perfect amount of candy. There was enough for everyone and just a tiny bit leftover (which quickly got consumed on the drive to our honeymoon destination).

It was really fun to get to watch everyone enjoy our candy buffet.

I wanted to incorporate pinwheels somewhere (I was thinking pinwheels for the FG, instead of bouqet) and what a perfect touch it is to your cupcakes. Also we are doing red velvet too, but they will all be red velvet :) The display is breath taking, both the cake and candy bar.

I love how it all goes together! And the stickers for the bags of candy are a great idea! I may have to steal that!

@Miss Aardvark: I found etsy has these stickers in a wide range of themes, sizes and colors for a great price. I just typed in key words, monogram wedding stickers.

Love the pinwheel idea! And having gone to a wedding where the cupcakes weren’t labeled, I’m so glad you included a key! Saves guests a lot of heartbreak when they realize they got something they don’t like :P

We’re doing a cupcake and dessert bar (instead of candy). I do like the college mascot idea.

I LOVE the pinwheels… Also, where did you find your mint julep cups? I’ve been looking for some but finding they’re all pretty expensive…

Just showed the hubs y’alls groom’s cake and he says it’s “the coolest groom’s cake he’s seen.” I think he secretly wanted a “knight” cake. lol.
