Eat, Drink, Learn Useless Info

November 15th, 2011 @ 12:39 pm by Miss Elk

Awhile ago I stumbled upon this photo of these awesome personalized cocktail napkins and LOVED the idea!

They are so witty and adorable! With phrases like “Thanks for being quiet during the ceremony. You look great by the way,” who wouldn’t want to giggle a little reading these while standing in line for a cocktail, enjoying finger foods?

While I thought they were adorable, I didn’t really think I could waste a bunch of money on having them made for me, and so I gave up on the idea…until I saw this old post by Mrs. Cupcake, who used her Gocco to add fun facts to plain cocktail napkins, tutorial provided. If you remember, I bought a Gocco on a (terrible) whim one day, and have been searching for new projects to use it for so as to not feel like I wasted my $200. So you see, this project was a true win-win situation; I got to use my Gocco again and I got my adorable napkins.

And in case you want to see the five facts I chose:

In total I spent about two to three hours making 300 of these babies. I think I will have to make more, though, so I am in the process of coming up with some other fun facts to use.

Overall, this project was surprisingly easy, and cheap (well…if you have a Gocco or access to one). I keep anticipating experiencing problems with this Gocco, but I cannot tell you enough just how simple the process is and how hard it is to screw it up! YAY!

Were the majority of your DIY adventures a success? And do you have any other Gocco projects I can take on for the wedding?

These a SO cute! Did you know there is a mustard museum in Wisconsin? (I have never been but I heard about it on NPR (WOW That was about the nerdiest thing EVER written.)) Sorry for nerding up your comments like that. Love you napkins.

These are awesome! They will be great conversation starters and let you guests know some cute, fun facts about y’all. (You’re gonna have to quit sharing all your projects because now I want a Gocco!)

I love these, I really wanted to make them, but I couldn’t justify the cost of the Gocco just for napkins.

Cute! And BTW, my fiance and I have the same fridge arguments - I always find stuff that is supposed to be refrigerated (it says so on the bottle!) in the pantry :-\

I really want customized napkins, but I have no access to a Gocco, and can’t justify the $75 it would cost to buy the napkins online. I love yours!

So cute! And I totally agree with Hawk that they will be great convo starters. P.S. In my book, salsa is in the pantry until it is opened, and then in the fridge - hands down!

@Miss Aardvark: OMG totally want to go to this museum and eat lots of mustard!! I have actually been craving mustard all week!

@SadieBee: haha, Mr Elk doesn’t listen to the “it says so on the bottle” argument! He just doesn’t like cold salsa (or ketchup for that matter

What do you guys think about dried fruit? I say no fridge and Mr Elk says yes…he is so weird!

Salsa goes in the fridge! (After it’s opened. Before it’s opened, the pantry is fine.)

I LOVE THIS IDEA! I WISH I HAD A GOCCO!!! Somehow my fiance could justify me getting a die cut machine, but not a Gocco…I should have forced him to see my point lol

These are so cool and I love the facts you chose! And I agree with others - salsa in pantry, but once opened, fridge!

I so wish I had a Gocco! We couldn’t find room in the budget for personalized napkins :( Also, Mr. Unicycle and I also met on the first day of orientation, and we ALSO lived in the same building! And salsa goes in the fridge, fo realz.

Love those. Now I want some sassy napkins. And food scientist fact of the day: jarred salsa that isn’t open doesn’t have to be refrigerated. Open jars and fresh salsa need to be refrigerated.
