The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.
About Miss Hawk

Beating the Blues

November 15th, 2011 @ 6:28 am by Miss Hawk

I’m sure you can relate. There are just some days when I move a little slower and am feeling a little less “sunny.” Well, the other day was one of those days. Mr. Hawk was leaving to go out of town for work and I was feeling down in the dumps. The air had somehow turned cold, it was overcast and breezy, and the only things I could think about were my workload at the office, bootcamp at the park in the freezing cold, and having three super pent-up dogs that I’d have to deal with after everything else. Top it off with following up on some wedding emails? I was feeling like I’d be lucky to fall into bed before PM turned to AM again.

I ran off to work, barely having a moment to kiss Mr. Hawk goodbye before heading out to complete my multitude of tasks. I went about my day just hoping to get through. When I popped home to throw on my workout gear, I was still in blinders mode, looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. That’s when I happened across a sweet little note attached to my mirror. A huge smile immediately came across my face, but I didn’t have time to call Mr. Hawk before running out again for bootcamp.

“I want to marry you”

When I made it back home for the second time, I was even more exhausted. I had my butt kicked in class and I was ready to make some dinner. I went to hang up my keys on our shelf and I came across another note. Heading to the kitchen to cook some dinner, I found still another note.

“I miss you”

“I love you!”

I was feeling pretty freakin’ special at that point. Looking forward to talking to Mr. Hawk ASAP, I hurriedly cooked some soup and started to eat my dinner. Before I could finish, he rang me up to check in. I went on gushing about the notes and how sweet they were. He asked me how many I had found. Three? Oh no, there was still another waiting to be discovered! Of course, not to be the one to just wait and “happen upon” it, I went to the bedroom, the only room I hadn’t been in since leaving for work. That’s when I found this last little beauty waiting atop my pillow.

“I want to spend my life with you!”

At the risk of being a braggart, I’ve got to say that I have a great man. It was still a rough day filled with responsibility, but Mr. Hawk really lightened my load. He eased my stress by reminding me that he cares. Even though it was a simple gesture, I know he took the time just to put a smile on my face. I don’t know about y’all, but little gestures to support the ones you love? I think that’s key to a successful partnership.

How do you show your significant other you care? Has your FI ever gone out of their way to brighten your day? (I sure hope so!)

That is seriously the cutest!! Nothing better to help brighten a bad day than sweet words or cute gestures! My fiance always seems to know when I need a text or a message (normally with pictures of cute puppies..) to cheer me up.

These are so sweet! We like to leave little notes to each other using magnetic poetry on our fridge, it always makes me smile when I see a new one :)

awwwww. you just made my day :).

Mr. Giraffe once (when we were in HS) he was at work, and made a sticky note book for me. I still have it. Posted all along the inside of a photo album.

I then made him a note card book (like those little index cards) and it was the story on how we met. And all I had was a blue pen. And his moms car was red. And so I wrote inside the car, THIS IS RED.

He also used to leave my house once I fell asleep and he’d leave me little good morning notes every night.

Aww I’m tearing up.

I leave notes on the bathroom mirror because I leave before he wakes up. I bought and Sweet and Spicy sticky notes thing from Hallmark and I’ll leave him one with a personal note written on it as well. He knows he’s lucky when I leave the spicy ones. Its cute. I also sometimes send him youtube videos in the morning via txt.

On Holiday’s and Birthday, even randomly at times, I’ll leave stuff on the seat of his car. This past sweetest day, I cut out the shape of my hand, and glued it to a long thin folder up piece of paper and glued that to another hand shape. And it read, I love you this much. He always says he loves me more because his arm spand it larger. So I made sure it stretched larger than that. Then he proposed that morning and suddley my HAND made card seemed stupid. But he loved it anyway.

@futuremrswifey: You’re absolutely right. It’s a great reminder that I found a keeper.

@MaggieL: Haha. Who wouldn’t feel better after looking at puppies?

@FutureMrsSoto: Aww. Very sweet. :)

@Mrs. Pony: Oh. I like the magnetic poetry idea! I sometimes sticky note things, but they tend to fall off!

@gogogiraffes: So sweet that you held onto the sticky note book all these years. I am totally a card and note saver, too.

@Miss Aardvark: Thanks, Miss A.

@knvprincess143: Too cute. I actually need to be better about returning the favor to the mister! You’ve inspired me. :)

Last week, I had the crappiest day at work and was feeling generally worn out. I got a phone call from a flower shop though saying they were at my job trying to deliver flowers for my mom. When i picked them up however, they were for me ;) Turns out my bf had called my mother to get my work address and had a dozen roses delivered to my job. This was so amazing especially since he lives in Philly, and I’m in Bermuda…. When I opened the card it simply said “I just wanted to remind you that I love you.” I was like awwwwww…. When I asked him why he sent them , he said “Because it’s Tuesday and I wanted you to know I love you.” REALLY…. how could my heart NOT melt…..
