Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!

Return of the STD

November 16th, 2011 @ 2:21 pm by Miss Fox

::insert (in)appropriate joke here::

So you know how some people are two dress brides? Well I’m not that (yet).

I’m….

…ready?…

…a two Save the Date bride.

Yea, that happened. I told you I was indecisive. Here’s the deal:

I’ve posted a whole bunch (way to much) about how much I was (over)thinking about the STD\s. I really appreciated all your suggestions (particularly on this post); it seemed the winner was option number 1, but I started getting self-conscious about how many pictures of myself and Foxy were on there. I mean sure, we’re dreamboats, but I didn’t want it to be overkill. So I finally decided on a combination of two previously shown designs, and it looked something like this:

Return of the STD : wedding havre de grace save the dates Std Edi std_edi

I ordered them from this wonderful website called CatPrint for super cheap, and a few days later I had a nice little stack of 3.5×5 cards.

Return of the STD : wedding havre de grace save the dates Dsc 200 DSC_200

At this point, I should have just stuffed the envelopes and have been done with it. But the more I looked at them, the more.. irked? unsettled?.. I became. For starters, I had designed the cards to be cropped at the edge of the photos, but for whatever reason, CatPrint wasn’t able to do that. The image as a whole was smaller than I wanted it to be, and I just wasn’t loving the design in general. Too busy, almost. Plus, I think they were screen printed and I could see all the little color dots that made up the pictures and text, and it wasn’t attractive in my eyes.

Well then Foxy and I went on a little date night a few days later and I snapped a picture with Hipstamatic on my iPhone (love that app!). And it was adorable. And ten minutes after we got home, I had a design whipped up on the computer with that picture that I liked approximately 4739827398 times more than the other STD mockups I already had.

So…for real this time…our official Save the Date (minus the blurring, of course)!!

Return of the STD : wedding havre de grace save the dates Stdnew std+new

It’s more basic, sure, but it gets the point across, is printed on glossy paper instead of matte (and hence, you can’t see the screen print dots), and…foreshadowing!…has some of the same text as our invite! Love me some cohesiveness.

But of course I couldn’t stop there…I just had to spice it up a little more with accessories and packaging. Stay tuned!

Did you/have you had a big change of heart about anything wedding related? Dress? STDs? The groom? TOTALLY KIDDING about that last one!!

I like both, if I had to chose I’ll go with the first one cause it has a classic, romantic look and I like it better, but I really liked your photoboot one.

I love what you landed on! And I love that it is just a random picture from a date night - that’s super sweet. Can’t wait to the spice you added :) Great choice!

For what it’s worth, sounds like 2 things happened with your CatPrint order (speaking as someone whose worked in commercial printing for 17 years but has no history with CatPrint whatsoever):

1) 4-color process printing also builds colors using dots–visible registration errors can happen with files that are not at the adequate resolution and if the press they are printed on was out of alignment.

2) If they were printed to size, a bleed (images extending to the very edge of the page) is not possible as in order to bleed an image must be printed larger than the cut size (and the files have to be prepared to accommodate this) and then trimmed into the printed area. Even if they were ganged up on larger sheets, if a printer isn’t instructed that the item is supposed to bleed, making it fit and leaving a border is the usual alternative.

Just in case anyone else is considering going this route :)

I love both of them, but I get what you mean about grainy printing and the new one is amazing! We are not doing STDs (teehehe, the acro STD cracks me up, okay I act like a 10 year old). Anyway no, we are not doing them, as much as I love STDs. But once you send them you are locked into inviting those people and I need the wiggle room with my tight budget and unfinalized guest list.

@Coffee cup: I did too.. I hate to say it, but it was just too much work. :( I’ll have to find another way to incorporate it!
@arielle: You just made my day.. I’m not the only one! Huzzah!
@Mrs. Pony: Thanks! Me too!
@Miss Dalmatian: Right?! I feel like the best ones are always the most random or candid ones. Funny how that works.
@Ocean: Awesome. Stephanie’s represent!
@Miss Porcupine: Thanks! I don’t know WHY I couldn’t just make up my mind. Who woulda thought that invites would be easier?!
@Miss Sunhat: Thanks, me too!
@thirdtimebride: Thanks for the input! I talked with customer service a billion times and tried bleed, no bleed, etc - I think I just didn’t comprehend the details so it didn’t work out. :(
@Future Army Wife: It happens! I’m still so tempted to try on other dresses.. they’re just so preeeetty.
@futuremrswifey: Aw. I hope you have one (or two?) you love.. and thanks!
@knvprincess143: Super good point about wiggle room on the guest list.. we might have this kick us in the butt. :/
@Miss Hawk: Thanks, Hawk!
