Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

Like so many other brides before me, I finally succumbed to the allure of the post-wedding chop. I’m proud that I managed to hold out for almost two months, but who am I kidding? That long hair was killing me, and it had to go!

Here’s what my hair looked like at our rehearsal dinner, before it really started to get on my nerves:

And after I chopped it all off:

OK, so I didn’t really chop it all off, but it certainly feels like I did! My stylist took off over seven inches, and I couldn’t be happier. I know my new ’do isn’t quite as drastic as other bees’ post-wedding chops (like Mrs. Sloth’s), but I love it, and I feel like myself again. Styling my hair is no longer a time-consuming chore that I put off for as long as possible each day, and my hair feels so much lighter and healthier. Oh, and Mr. Parasol loves it. Done and done.

Now to go take care of those annoying roots…

Did anyone else do a post-wedding chop (or planning on it)? If so, tell me about your new ’do! You can even link your inspiration pictures—I know I had dozens of those!

I love it! Your PWC came out much cuter than mine lol.

I won’t be doing a PWC at all! I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for several years, and haven’t had it trimmed it quite a bit just to get it to a length that I enjoy (probably just past my chest). Don’t plan to cut it!

So cute! I’m so noncommittal to hairstyles, so I still haven’t chopped off my (ridiculously long) hair!

@Miss Dalmatian: Thanks, pretty lady!
@Mrs. Ticket: You are too sweet! And I cannot wait to see yours! I’m sure you’re too hard on yourself and it actually looks adorable.
@seahorsey: Good for you! I always wish my hair looked better long, but it’s actually pretty fine and thin, so when it gets long, it just looks pretty limp most of the time. I’m jealous of all you ladies who can wear it long!

@Mrs. Pony: Oh I am so guilty of that as well! I don’t think I’ve ever had a period in my line where I’ve actively maintained a certain hairstyle–I’m always chopping it off, growing it out a little, then doing something else with it. But I usually come back to the same cut, so I think I should probably just stick with that, right? And BTW, your long hair is gorgeous!
@Jeannine @ Small Chic: Thanks so much! I’m just glad to have something I can deal with on a daily basis (unless you call throwing your hair up in a bun every day “dealing” with it :D).

Ohh I definitely will probably end up doing one! I always want what I don’t have.. my hair was getting super long about a year ago, so I cut it all off. Then a month later I got sick of it short and wanted it long again.. now it’s in that weird in between phase and I am just waiting for it to get long enough for me to love it again (and do something pretty with it for the wedding)!

I love it! The length really fits you. I want to cut my hair to about this length too after the wedding. Hopefully it will look more like Carrie Bradshaw’s short curly-do and less like a Shirley Temple hair-do. lol.

Oh I think you look so cute both ways! But the new chop, is divine! I didn’t notice the roots either :)

The new do looks really cute! I don’t know about you, but sometimes a good and drastic change in hair can be just what the doctor ordered.

@Miss Fox: I feel like you just described my relationship with my hair! I’m constantly growing it out, chopping it off, trying something new, etc. I guess the grass is always greener, right? :) I’m envious of those people who have one particular hairstyle that they just stick with!
@Miss Porcupine: Thanks! And I can’t wait to see yours–I’m sure it will be awesome and totally fabulous Carrie Bradshaw-esque. My hair is also naturally curly, and I’m excited to try out that look one of these days.
@Miss Sunhat: Join me! It’s such a relief to get rid of it all post-wedding!

@knvprincess143: Aww, you’re so sweet! I’m always excited when it gets long again, but then it starts to bug me, and I get anxious to chip it all off. I think I’m sticking with the short-ish ‘do for now because it’s quick and easy, and if I’m honest, it’s always what I like best on myself. :)
@JD: I totally agree! I’m a new wife, I need a new haircut!
@Miss Mole: Thanks! I’ve joined ranks with all of you gorgeous short-haired women on the bee! :)

Cute!! I cannot wait to chop mine off - I’m making an appointment at the salon for the Monday after the wedding so it’s short before we leave for the honeymoon on Tuesday. I think I’m almost as excited for the haircut as I am for the trip….OK, that’s not true, but I can’t wait! My hair is driving me crazy!

Love your hair and I’m really jealous! I can’t wait to cut it all off and change my hair color to something random and fun, Its boring having to keep it something you won’t regret in photos years to come. Hahaha..

You look great! I love the way your shorter ‘do frames your face. I will most likely also jump on the PWC bandwagon. I’m six months out and I’m already to cut it!
