Another Very Important Dress

November 17th, 2011 @ 6:25 am by Miss Elk

Or should I say eight other dresses! In case you haven’t figured it out, I am talking about bridesmaids’ dresses. Long ago I fell in love with mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses like these:

I absolutely love the coordinating colors and unique look of each bridesmaid. I think it is an awesome way to allow each girl to have her own style and feel comfortable. That being said, I didn’t know how to do this with eight girls realistically, and still end up with a semi-coordinated style.

So I decided if I couldn’t have mismatched colors, I would at least have mismatched styles! I decided on a purple/gray color (not really sure how I came to that decision) and knew that I wanted long chiffon dresses (light enough for summer with a more formal feel!).

Enter Bari Jay chiffon dresses in Wisteria:

These are only five of about thirty options I gave to my bridesmaids, and in all the dresses range in price from 130–200 dollars (with options at all price points). I’m pretty excited to see what dresses my ‘maids pick, and hope this makes them all comfortable at the wedding.

Overall, this was one of my easiest decisions, which is pretty surprising considering how long it took me to pick a wedding dress!

Did you surprise yourself with your decisiveness? And do you have any experience with mismatched bridesmaids’ dresses? How did it go?

All of these dress options are SO pretty, Miss Elk! I think the fact that they’re all by the same designer will help to give you that mismatched look but still be cohesive. And that purple color is to die for. Our bridesmaid dress experience was really short and sweet because I have 4 ‘maids. I gave them the option to mix-and-match, but they’re all wearing the same dress - that the agreed on in about half an hour! My girls are great. :)

I made boxes for my maids and I gave then a three color choice and let them pick out their styles. I want them to be comfortable and gorgeous.

I was surprised to get on here and see that picture because that it what I want for my wedding..mismatched colors/dresses for the maids. It’s so hard finding the right colors and worrying if it really looks right. I’m about to give up and just do what you did! You’re dresses look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m standing up in my friend’s wedding and she has chosen to let us do the same. I came across the Bari Jay website this week and sent her some options, she loved them!

I’ve dubbed my decisiveness, my evil twin, her name is Second Gusser and she needs to die. Everytime I make a dicision, I panic and then look for something better or cheaper. It’s getting exhausting.

Lovely! My friend used a very similar color for her wedding dresses and it looked really good. I think it is subtle, but still so pretty. Great choice!

I love that color, Miss E! It looks surprisingly similar to the color in my inspiration pictures and what my MOH and I eventually picked out. I’m sure all your ladies will look gorgeous!

I am glad you wrote this out! I plan to do the same thing in royal, and was having trouble articulating what I meant.

Great choice in color! I chose something similar (Bill Levkoff 521 - Victorian Lilac). And you described it perfectly…light but formal. You’ll bridesmaids will love it!

Love the color and the few styles you pulled! Bari Jay has such a great selection. I’m doing the same thing with my girls, but with Dessy!

I love the color and the styles, very pretty. Bridesmaid dresses were the hardest ever, and 3 of the 5 were willing to wear a candywrapper dress if I asked. It was the two, that made sure I kept with my vision (of allowing them to pick whatever) - even when I wanted to change my vision. Thankfully, I found something I loved, unique, comfortable and custom made to fit all different body types. I sent out photos, got their measurements and placed the deposit! Done and Happy its over
