The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. Dressing My Tootsies

November 17th, 2011 @ 5:14 am by Miss Hawk

After finding my dress, my next mission was shoes. (I would love to show pictures, but the mister assured me he wouldn’t be able to avoid the temptation! So you’ll have to get by with my rather elusive description.) My dress is a very classic modified A-line gown with a bit of a vintage look. (I’m sure that doesn’t help at all!) I wanted a shoe that reflected a similar style. I also knew that I loved color, but I wasn’t necessarily set on it. I wanted something somewhat delicate and definitely feminine. The downfall was that it had to be a flat/kitten heel.

I’m not a super-tall girl, but at 5’7”, I am above average height. The dress I ordered fit me perfectly at the length it was, but the catch was that I would only be able to wear a minimal heel. I did have the option to add additional length, but at a couple hundred bucks for a few inches plus extra alterations fees, it just didn’t seem practical. (Plus, I’m a total flats girl anyways. I love you, Tory Burch!) With Momma and Sis Hawk in tow, we hit up every major department store in Richmond, plus made a trip to the Williamsburg outlets. I was extremely disheartened, finding really only two viable options:
(Please excuse my horribly swollen feet after a full day of shopping)

The next day we visited Carytown, a quaint area in Richmond’s uptown neighborhood featuring strictly boutique shopping. In the first store we visited, I found these:

I was in love AND they were on sale! I excitedly snatched them up and made a special trip to Bella Rosa, where I purchased my gown, to try them on. They were comfy, girly, and at the perfect height. I was sold. Unfortunately, as time has passed, I’ve become a little disenchanted with my decision. I think part of the problem was that I came across these babies online:

Since finding them, I now can’t picture myself wearing anything else. The problem? Well, these come with a Manolo price tag. And even more of an issue? The blue color was a 2010 design and so far impossible to find. I’ve seen a lot of knock-offs online but none of the real thing. I set up an eBay alert just in case they happen to be listed online in my size, but I really can’t think of any other way to find them. (Sigh.)

I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to do about my tootsies at this point, but I have plenty of time to decide. I’m going to keep my options open and perhaps, by some miracle, my dream shoes will cross my path.

Was there ever a time when finding your perfect “something” was right out of your reach?

Yes the hay bales I want are just out of reach, it is a long story.

I’ve found that once you find something you love, avoid looking at other options, the evil Second Gusser, like a devil on your sholder shows up and the battle begins.

But those shoes are A-FLIPPING-MAZING! Rock em out guuurl!

Aw, such a bummer!! Those shoes are beautiful!! I hope they pop up on ebay in time! I hemmed and hawed about my wedding day shoes since they were so expensive, but in the end, I’m SO glad I got them.

Oh man, I had similar wishy-washy feelings about my wedding shoes. I finally managed to pick a pair, but looking back, I know they totally could have been better. But whatever. They were cute and comfy, and I like that they were colorful. I’m sure you’ll find the perfect pair as well!

You are preaching to the choir sister! I found my dream shoe one day at Neiman Marcus with my SIL, Mom, and big sis. The shoe was a beautiful Christian Loubution d’orsay pump with fabulous sprakles everywhere that perfectly matched my NYE wedding and theme. Although they had my size I decided to hold off until I got the ok from my soon to be Mr who is active duty and has been away CONUS the past 11 months (shoe cost $650! way over budget). Mr was ok with it so when I went back to purchase them I was told they were sold out nationwide, and believe me I went to just about every location in the NY/NJ area to confirm that!!! I was upset and my FI was away with no means of comm for the past month for me to vent to. Long story short when my FI got back from his trip I explained to him my sad story and how i bought a pair of simple shoes that will suffice because really its not about the shoes. He consoled me but obviously was busy and had to go. To my surprise about 1.5 hours later I got a picture message from FI holding THE shoe with a serious look of satisfaction on his face and a caption “is this her?” I replied yes and he bought her for me :). Sorry long story but I just had to share. Me being a serious shoe lover, obviously, the shoes meant a lot to me. Perhaps more than the dress which I purchased on my own after trying on only one dress. He is amazing for seeing how much it meant to me and going outside of his busy schedule to purchase these shoes for me. LOVE HIM <3

BTW on my many shoe hunts I did see MANY different types of shoes and amongst thoes were your Manohlo’s in both a flat and 3.5”/4” pump. They are called the something blue satin pumo and they have them at Saks 5th Ave and Neiman Marcus. I would give the NYC Saks location a call Im sure they would be willing to ship them for you free of charge after purchase.

Good luck!

I think they’re both beautiful, but if you really love the Manolos keep looking! You won’t regret it.

Wow - see, I love those Vera grey flats, they are exactly what I what have worn under my dress if I’d found them. Gorgeous. And Manolo makes flats now? How cool!

@knvprincess143: You are too right. When you know all the other options out there, it’s easy to start second-guessing!

@elovesm: Thank you so much! Kate Spade can do no wrong in my book! :)

@Caizn: They are beautiful aren’t they? Now if only I could make a decision…

@Mrs. Socks: Thanks! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

@Mrs. Parasol: Thanks for the encouraging words. I have some time, so I’m staying optimistic.

@Coffee cup: Aren’t they? They’ve become an obsession.

@Miss Bug: Thanks for sharing your sweet story! I hadn’t thought of calling out-of-town stores. Thanks for the suggestion!

@Mrs. Pony: Thanks Mrs. P. I’ll be scouring the internets!

@Mrs. Jaguar: I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw they made dressy flats as well. It’s about time they considered comfort, right? ;)

All of those shoes are so cute! I have to say that I have. Pair of similar Vera Wang flats (minus all of the paroles) that I live in. Her shoes, as well as those other brands, are so comfy. You can’t go wrong here.

You could always rock a pair of Tory Burch in white. I’ll be repping maroon and orange Jack Rogers.
