Miss Hawk, Richmond, VA Age and Occupation: 26, Finance Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, District Supervisor Engagement Date: March 13, 2011 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: The Chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building, 2007 Legacy Hall About Me: I’m an Arizona-born girl who has spent the majority of my life living below the Mason-Dixon line. The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.

Bridal Scatterbrain

November 18th, 2011 @ 10:54 am by Miss Hawk

Oh boy, y’all. I really messed up this time! A few weeks back Mr. Hawk and I had a busy wedding-filled weekend planned. I went bridesmaids’-dress shopping that Saturday and had a tasting scheduled for Sunday with our caterer and a flower consultation afterward…or so I thought…

Mr. Hawk and I got up and went to church. From there we left straight for Williamsburg. An hour drive down the road and we were there. Being short on time, I suggested that we eat the sandwiches we grabbed while walking to our next destination. (No time to sit and relax!) When we arrived at the open house, the building seemed pretty dead. Since it was extraordinarily quiet, Mr. Hawk suggested I double check my email invite. I had been reading the invite details on the car ride, so it was still open on my phone. We were at the right location, right time…but wrong date. (UUUHG!!) The tasting was actually scheduled for the NEXT weekend.

I immediately began apologizing profusely for my error. How could I let this happen? (And how did I overlook the date when we were driving in the dang car?!) Mr. Hawk was shocked that I could be responsible for such an “epic fail.” (His words, not mine.) I am usually so on top of things! (Hello, planning is straight up my thing!) The only way I can rationalize my mistake is to attribute it to bridal scatterbrain. Like every other bride, I have so many things on my plate. At any given time, I feel like I’m juggling a handful of decisions, selections, and search queries. The only thing I can do is be better about scheduling appointments in my phone calendar. (But honestly I’ve never needed to until now. Darn you, bridal scatterbrain.) At least we made the most of our visit and spent some time at Wren Chapel, our ceremony spot.

I’m terrible with dates! I live and die by my Outlook calendar at work and if it didn’t synch to my iphone, I’d be sunk.

My FI, on the other hand, is awesome about dates. He knows that December 17th next month is going to be a Saturday (I think). I had to actually buy a paper calendar for us to use so we’d be on the same page. I just can’t remember dates like he does!

I hear you girl, I have lists and spreadsheets coming out the wazoo. And they are cross referenced and sometimes I panic about it.

i feel ya girl! i’m 2 weeks away from my wedding and i’ve got bride brain BAAAAD. i’m usually so good at being organized, but seemingly ordinary tasks have been SO difficult for me to remember lately. it’s awful! it’ll get better once you have crossed off a lot on your list, but then it’ll get so much worse a couple weeks before your wedding!

I totally did things like this during planning, I had to constantly double check the date and times of things.

@Jeannine @ Small Chic: Ugh. At least one of you has a great memory!

@knvprincess143: I feel like everything’s written down SOMEWHERE, right? Then you’re shuffling through 20 emails and spreadsheets!

@vintagemodernbride: I can’t even imagine all the things going through your mind!!

@Mrs. Pony: I’ve never had to double-check things before, but I sure learned my lesson.

@Miss Dalmatian: Well I’m glad to hear it’s not just me!
