Miss Elk, City: Syracuse/Long Island Age and Occupation: 25, Medical Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: November 22, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: The Old Field Club About Me: I’m a Long Island girl finishing my last year of medical school in western NY, on the road to becoming a pediatrician. When I’m not studying or sleeping at the hospital, I spend my free time watching bad TV (Vampire Diaries anyone?), playing with my pooch, singing incredibly off-key (to the annoyance of Mr. Elk ), and reading Harry Potter for the zillionth time. Mr. Elk and I are planning a secular wedding infused with both Irish and cultural Jewish traditions. Only a week after I become an M.D., I will get my Mrs. degree, too!
About Miss Elk

While I love love love love love my dress, there is a slight problem with her, as demonstrated by this lovely bride who also chose my gown:

Do you see the problem? She is having a really hard time raising her arms above her head!! Those straps are surprisingly restricting, making it near impossible to raise your arms above shoulder height. Obviously, I don’t really care all that much, seeing as I bought the dress, but it does present somewhat of a problem when it comes to one main part of the wedding: The first dance. You see, Mr. Elk is about a foot taller than me, and so it is imperative that I be able to actually reach his shoulders, a feat that may not be possible with those straps!

My solution? Four-inch heels. Now, I think its important for you to know that I don’t usually wear heels, let alone four-inch ones. On a daily basis I choose the flattest, most comfortable shoes I can find, and so it may seem strange that an extremely high heel was my solution, but there is a reason why it was the solution:

A long time ago I fell in love with the Badgley Mischka Randee, and since that moment they HAD to be the shoes I wear on my wedding day. They were my first big splurge for the wedding, seeing as my shoes usually cost 40 dollars or less (from DSW).

Now, I know this is probably how the story of me falling on my face the day of my wedding begins, but oh well! I have been practicing walking in these babies for a few months now and I am starting to get better. I am also planning on buying these puppies for the reception, so that should help:

Did you solve a wedding problem with an obviously terrible solution? And did you switch into comfy flip flops during your reception even though you couldn’t live without an expensive pair of heels?

I also bought some tall “spice girl” flip flops for after dinner. They worked perfectly and no one saw.

I bought those Soda shoes! They’re a size 7 and gently used. If you want to buy them secondhand, send me a message. I’ll give you a great deal since I am never going to wear them again. :-)

I have the opposite problem!

My sweetie is only just over an inch taller than me. So while I’m comfortable in and love tall tall heels he requested that I not tower over him at the altar, and how can you say no to something so reasonable?

Problem – I hate flats, I’m not comfortable in them and I don’t like how my legs look in them. It’s difficult to find wedding shoes with a small heel. Plenty of flats and plenty of sexy stilettos… not much in between.

I did find a pair eventually that I’m happy with (Nina - Culver if anyone is in a similar sitch). But it was an obnoxious search. I’ll be wearing them through the ceremony and reception though… since they’re nice & comfy.

This is funny because I was actively looking for shorter shoes, seeing as I’m 5′9 without heels. Alas, I still got 4″ ones.. thank goodness Foxy is so tall! I’ve also debated getting comfier shoes for the reception, but I’m definitely a heels kind of a gal - I can see wanting to sport them all night. I suppose a back up pair would be smart, though!

Haha yup… I never wear heels EVER… I am a ballet flats kinda girl. But I’m 4′11″ so I’m sucking it up and wearing a killer pair of 4″ inch heels for the ceremony and platform sandals for the reception. Haha it’s gonna be fuuuuun!

Ohhhh… LOVE the shoes! Oh, I wish!
I am a girl that Loves shoes - I rarely wear flats - But my fiance is short - no not just an inch but 4 inches shorter than me. And I’m not super tall - 5′ 8″ average. So during the ceremony and first dance I am wearing flats - then let the party start and I’ll put on a little heel about 2.5″
Think it’ll look funny?
