Dance Me To The End Of Love

November 30th, 2011 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Raccoon

Hi Everyone! It’s Miss Raccoon here. Sorry I’ve been away for so long! It’s that kind of time when you ask, “Anything else?” as a rhetorical question and some greater power says, “Oh most definitely. Challenge accepted.” We still consider ourselves to be doing pretty well because we were able to have a great Thanksgiving weekend with our families and our wedding is in two months!

It came up in conversation that we still hadn’t picked a song to use for our first dance. In the beginning, we took Miss Doily’s idea of setting up a playoff chart. We had a good time making cuts and practicing dancing to different songs. Frank Sinatra’s version of Cheek to Cheek was the victor and we were going to shamelessly borrow choreography from a YouTube video. It was going to be funny and fantastic and… so not us. It didn’t sit well with me.

Call me selfish, but I think the first dance should be more for us than entertainment for guests.

After waffling on songs, realizing that even a two minute selection would feel like every millisecond of Free Bird, and even considering skipping the first dance, I found one that I’m almost embarrassed to admit I can’t take off of repeat.

Get a load of these lyrics! The song is called Turning Page and it’s by a group called Sleeping At Last.

I’ve waited a hundred years but I’d wait a million more for you

Nothing prepared me for the privilege of being yours

If I had only felt the warmth within your touch

If I had only seen how you smile when you blush

Or how you curl your lip when you concentrate enough

I would have known what I was living for

Your love is my turning page

Only the sweetest words remain

Every kiss is a cursive line

Every touch is a redefining phrase

I surrender who I’ve been for who you are

If I had only felt how it feels to be yours

I would have known what I’ve been living for all along

What I’ve been living for

If you’d like to hear it, here’s a place to click!

Was anyone else slow to find the right first dance song? How did you decide?

This song gave me chillz, I bet everyone will cry int he middle of your first dance.

We just took a very important song for us and decided that’ll be our first dance, a few weeks later he proposed with that song.

Ohh it’s just beautiful! Foxy and I are having (possibly had..) a super hard time finding a first dance song as well. There are a lot of great songs with great lyrics, but it was really, REALLY hard finding one we both agreed on. We definitely wanted it to be by someone we both know and love, and that proved to be challenging! A lot of the music we like has pretty depressing lyrics lol.

This song is in the new Twilight movie…is it sad that I know that? Maybe a little, but I don’t care. This is the perfect first dance song, I love it!

Our first dance song was one of the first things we picked: “Into My Arms,” by Nick Cave. I think it’s so beautiful and just perfect for us. Unfortunately, now we’re rethinking it because it’s on the long side (4:15), and we’re concerned about offending family members (it’s kind of overtly atheist).

Anyone else feel iffy about their song choice? Did you switch? If so, do you regret it? I’m on the fence.

First of all - I LOVE your song choice!!!!! I may have to have our DJ play this so we can slow dance to it! :)

We’ve been lucky to have “a song” for awhile… and he even played it while he was proposing! So there is no question that this will be our first dance, but I’m just worried because there are some “bad words” in it….. hopefully I can find an edited version?

Beautiful song!!!

We’ve had our song picked out for many years now. It’s a bit untraditional, but like you said.. It’s for us, not them. ;)
