Today I excitedly met two of my ladies, MOH A and BM R, at a local bridal shop, Tiffany’s. After visiting their website and scoping out the designers they carried, I was very hopeful that we might find something great and be able to come a decision. We searched through the racks and picked up what felt like 50 dresses. I was very optimistic at first, finding both a collection of satin and chiffon dresses that we all agreed were great, but when we emptied the room of all the discard dresses, we were a little underwhelmed with what we had left.
Not to get deep on you all, but I have to say that sometimes I take a step back and realize Mr. Porcupine and I are really lucky to each come from a family that has accepted the other with open arms. Since the day Mr. Porcupine and I got together we have immediately clicked with each other’s families.
I didn’t get much of a chance to get used to the idea of meeting “the whole fam” when it came to our relationship. After about 3 months as a couple I met pretty much EVERYONE in Mr. P’s family at his brother’s wedding. On the flip side, Mr. P met my immediate family (parents, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparents) at my college graduation after only two months as a couple. So really early on we knew what we were getting into. (Haha, I kid…OR DO I?)
When it came time for the holidays, I can only vaguely remember our first holiday season together.

One of my favorite things about going to weddings is to observe all of the different traditions and rituals, whether cultural or otherwise. It’s always interesting how every bride and groom bring different customs to both their ceremony and their reception. I love it, because it makes each wedding unique.
I was especially looking forward to one particular tradition at our reception. Every time a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma gets married, all of her sorority sisters who are present at the wedding sing a song called “Pat” to her. It’s a silly song, but our sorority has been practicing this tradition for over 100 years and there’s just something about that history that I absolutely adore. I’ve seen displays of other Greek organizations’ traditions at other weddings and the reaction is always the same: the rest of the guests look at them like they’re nuts! And maybe we did look a little weird, but from our end of things, we had a blast.
jestrada wore a perfect pair of cranberry colored shoes…we’d love a pair for a holiday wedding!

Like so many other brides before me, I finally succumbed to the allure of the post-wedding chop. I’m proud that I managed to hold out for almost two months, but who am I kidding? That long hair was killing me, and it had to go!
Here’s what my hair looked like at our rehearsal dinner, before it really started to get on my nerves:

And after I chopped it all off:
After booking the reception venue, finding a photographer was the most important/stressful task on my wedding to-do list. I’m an extremely nostalgic person (just thinking about how there will never be a new episode of Charmed again makes me tear up), so I know I’ll be looking back at our wedding pics all the time after it’s all said and done.

My two fave things: weddings and Charmed. By the way, I kind of love her dress.
I’m also worried about PWD—I took a quiz in Brides magazine to see if I was susceptible and I am!—but I think having lots of amazing wedding pics to peruse after it’s over will help a lot with that. They’re the only tangible thing left over from the day (actually that’s not true at all—what about the dress that you can never wear again, the favors that guests left behind, the dying centerpieces, the freezer-burnt top tier, and all the other junk I’ll have to haul back home and figure out what to do with?), so they’re pretty important.

It had been way too long since my last baseball reference, so I had to do it with this title. Go White Sox!
Now down to business. Since we have covered my shoes, my dress, and my veil, I figured I’d keep the ball rolling and share another piece of my wedding day look (although this will probably contribute more to our sweetheart table look since I don’t plan on carrying it around all night, but you get the idea): my purse!
Here is a pic of my everyday purse (yes, I am cruel and dragged Adam to SeaWorld San Antonio on his birthday last winter - I love dolphins that much).

As you can see from the pic, it would make an excellent something blue. However, even though my wedding is be no means fancy shmancy, I don’t think my lovely Anthro bag is very fitting for a formal occasion. This means I will need a wedding day clutch.
OK so it should really be “the boys get dressed and then undressed again.” The problem with our family homes being about a 40 minute drive from one another is that it meant that the photographer arrived at Mr Teaspoon’s at 10:30 AM before our 2PM ceremony!
That morning, the boys discussed the latest selection of the Wallabies team for the upcoming Rugby World Cup:
Luckily they didn’t have to be dressed. Considering some of the photos I saw, it gave me a little indication of what they were up to the previous night, care of Best Man:

Long before I started actually planning a wedding, I decided that no matter what I would somehow incorporate fireflies into my nuptials. You see, ever since I was a little girl, one of my favorite things in the entire world has been fireflies. That first night of summer when the fireflies come out and light up the night is simply magical! Unfortunately, my wedding date is a little early for actual fireflies, so I have been on the lookout for other possible ways to get that magical feel.
And then there was Pinterest—the most amazing website EVER. (OK, I may be in my “obsessed with Pinterest” mode…) One of the first pictures that I saw on Pinterest was this gorgeous shot, and I thought, hmmmmm that kinda looks like fireflies caught in a jar on a warm summer’s night!

Not only does it look gorgeous, but it looks easy enough to make (and cheap!). Mason jars at 69 cents each, a packet of tissue paper, and a bottle of Mod Podge and I was off experimenting.
(Personal photos ahead)
I picked out my wedding jewelry! Jewelry was another area where I didn’t have too strong of an opinion. I wear silver colored jewelry much more than I wear yellow gold colored jewelry and long and heavy earrings hurt and pull down my earlobes. That’s about all I knew, but I think it’s important to be comfortable with and confident about the accessories you’re wearing.
Plan A was to borrow pieces from my mother but I was having trouble coming up with a complete look I liked. While at the mall tonight, there was a stack of flyers at JC Penney for $10 off a purchase. There’s no harm in looking, right?

I made the decision a while back that save-the-dates were pretty much non-negotiable. Even though most of Mr. Hawk’s family is located in and around the Richmond area, my family is quite spread out. (California, Arizona, Georgia…need I go on?) So deciding to send them was the easy part. In what form to send them was where I got stumped. I wanted to go somewhat of a traditional route and have nailed it down to two options: the postcard or the magnet.
I kind of love the idea of a postcard. It’s more unique and a little retro, and I like the idea of being able to include a short message on the back. (Plus, they are an affordable option!) I just love this design from Wedding Paper Divas. It fits our theme and location, and it’s pretty much already in our colors!

My only concern is that they might have a higher probability of getting lost in the shuffle. If y’all are anything like me, then you H.A.T.E. junk mail. It barely makes it into the house before getting trashed. And my concern is that something as thin as a postcard might be less noticeable than a card or magnet in an envelope. I would be devastated if they inadvertently ended up in the trashcan. So, this brings me to the other option, the magnet.
vwarren1 is selling a huge lot of blue Ball Mason jars. She’s asking $5 for the quart size, $6 for the pint (harder to find), and $7 for the half gallon. She also has the zinc lids if wanted.

Remember when I told you about the horrid experience we had while meeting with a potential videographer? The one who said he didn’t really enjoy doing weddings, and he kept calling Mr. Buck by the wrong name? Well, our search for a videographer does have a happy ending. Our photographer was able to refer us to his friend who does videography.
They are a husband and wife team and they run a wonderful little wedding video company called WV Collections. We met them for coffee to go over details and pricing information. They treated us as though they were honored to be a part of our wedding, and asked us inquisitive questions. I wasn’t nervous to ask them any questions either, because they treated every single one of them as if it was important. On top of all that, they remembered our names. This was all new territory for us!
Being that videography was not at the top of my list, we needed someone that was reasonable.

My husband (!!!) and I are on our Disneyland mini-moon—currently giving our feet a rest—so I thought I’d pop in and say hello! We’re spending a few days here at the Grand Californian Hotel before heading down to San Diego for a couple of nights, but I’ll fill you in all the mini-moonin’ details later.
Basically our wedding was absolutely perfect and I cannot wait to get our pro photos back so I can tell you all about it. Everything lived up to (and exceeded) my expectations and it was absolutely the best day of my entire life. I wish I could get married to Mr. Seal every weekend because, hive, we throw one hell of a party. Everyone had a blast.
Anyway, here’s a little sneak peek to tide you over.

I’ve spoken a lot about the homemade wedding pie in previous posts, and as I don’t want you to think I’m totally obsessed with pie (although it’s kinda true) I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves in this post.
