I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but I wanted to check back into the hive with some exciting news! It seems to be true that good things come in threes and yesterday was proof of that little theory. When my boyfriend (who we will enthusiastically call “The Ginger” from now on) came home from work, I spent a good twenty minutes rambling about how giddy I was since: 1.) I managed to land a job interview with an amazing company and 2.) I found our foster dog a home with a loving family. I asked him about his day and we exchanged our usual stories about each others’ latest happenings. He asked what I wanted for dinner and I told him we could make pasta since we are in need of groceries and it’s one of the only edible things in the house right now. Apparently since he made dinner last night (which consisted of scooping tuna salad I had made onto bread), it was my turn to do the cooking since we switch cooking and cleaning every other night. I cluelessly didn’t realize at the time that he was trying to lead me into the kitchen.
So, to the kitchen I went, where I asked what type of pasta he wanted. I rattled off our options and asked boring inquisitive questions like “what’s the difference between linguine and fettuccine?” When I went to grab a pot from our cabinets, just about our entire cookware set came toppling over. Typical Ms. Candy Corn spazzery was taking place. I started boiling a pot of water and filled our Brita water pitcher, which I put in the fridge without realizing this was waiting for me:

In the final week (or, lets be honest, several weeks) leading up to our wedding, the Thimble apartment in Queens was a flurry of crafts and projects. Or… to be even more honest, in the words of my MOH from LA who was seeing my digs for the first time, it was a disaster. How, after a 2-year engagement, did I manage to save bridesmaids’ gifts, out of town bags, favors and my wedding garters for the last couple weeks? Well… I uhmm ehh…
Let’s just continue on. I finally got out of our messy apartment in NYC and on the road with my Mom, my sis, and LA MOH, en route to Pennsylvania…

I know that I told you I was not going to show my dress until the wedding, and I know that it’s a little rude to talk about it and then not show you, but this is kind of a big deal part of the wedding planning and I felt I had to share!
Tomorrow is my first fitting! I am so nervous and excited. My mama Aardvark is even coming to Wisconsin to come with me since I deprived her the fun of actual dress shopping by dress-not-shopping. This will be the first time I have actually had a wedding dress on, not counting the ones I tried on at the second-hand store that had any combination of stains, sleeves from the 80s and beaded fringe (the fringe was actually a bit appealing but the placement was in poor taste).
I am hoping tomorrow I will feel totally at ease with my choice to not go shopping. I am hopping the dress looks as good on me, and is as bridal as I imagine it will be. I am hoping that even though this is only a muslin mock-up, I will be able to envision everything the way it will be for the wedding. I am hoping it is comfortable. I am hoping it helps me narrow down veil concepts. I am hoping the shoes I spent so long obsessing over go with it. As you can see, there is a lot of hope riding on tomorrow’s fitting. (I hope I am not building it up to be something its not?)
And now, because I am a total tease, I will show you handful of dress patterns, one of which is mine.

Here I sit, the morning of my wedding, amazed that these last two years have flown by so quickly. My lovely bridesmaids are getting their hair and makeup done and I FINALLY feel like it’s real…I am getting married to my incredible love…today. In a whirlwind of planning, crafting and blogging, I’ve come upon the day that will make me a wife…at last. The past few weeks have been especially busy, but I have sincerely enjoyed every minute of my engagement and am so ready to be married.
To my fellow blogging bees: Thank you for your shoulders to lean upon, your cheers to keep me keepin’ on, and your unparalleled ingenuity that never ceases to inspire me. I am so thankful and proud to stand amongst you all and to call you my friends. Truly and honestly.
To the hive: This is going to sound trite, but I promise every word is true—

After ditching my initial wedding inspiration, I had a new-found determination to define a style that fit me and Mr. Hawk. Not long after beginning my search, I fell in love again. Lightning had struck twice. This time, though, it didn’t feel forced. (I swear, it felt like the skies parted and the wedding gods smiled upon me.)

I ADORED the simplicity and classic beauty of antique blue Mason jar arrangements, and it wasn’t just because they were “pretty.” To top it off, they were the most amazing backdrop for yellow flowers. (See what I saying about the wedding gods?) The only thing holding me back from proclaiming full-on victory was cost. After some research, I found that those antiques were a bit pricey. That’s when I found a DIY tutorial from Bridal Buzz.

I broke down and bought a Gocco screen printer. I don’t know what made me decide I could spend 200 dollars on some printer thingy, especially considering I am not planning on using it to make my invitations (which would have saved me money). Instead I wasted a lot of money, and now I feel I must use this crazy contraption on a bagillion other DIY projects to make up for my splurge.
So today, I present my first ever Gocco’ed project: tears of joy packets! I bought glassine envelopes off of eBay, printed a design I quickly put together in PowerPoint, and voila! I was a Gocco-printing machine. (Personal Photos)
Our wedding budget revolved around making enough room for food. We chose our venue based on their catering. I wanted our wedding to have an incredible seated lunch, decadent cupcakes for dessert, and a tasty candy buffet to serve as favors. Unfortunately, among our two photographers and all of our guest photos, I have yet to find any pictures of our lunch. The good news is that I have pictures of the rest of the food! First, this is what our tables looked like sans food…that is, here are our lovely centerpieces.
Some of our tables had this centerpiece: a mint julep cup filled with cotton blooms, white hydrangeas, white garden roses, yellow garden roses, and blue thistles.

After the amazing first part of our honeymoon in Maui, we flew back to Honolulu which is where we had to fly home from. We stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki right on the beach and had a beautiful view over Diamond Head and across the town and out onto the ocean.
It was quite the change of pace going from being in an incredibly secluded resort to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. To say the least, we wanted to high-tail it right back to Maui quick smart.
I am not a military bride, but I am a proud American. I do support our troops. And like many others I want to help, but don’t always know how. In honor of Veterans day today, I bring to you an incredible cause for military brides.
Yesterday I listed my veil for sale under the classifieds section. I started thinking that maybe I would donate it instead. But where?
I was wondering if there was some type of organization dedicated to brides in the military or brides who are marrying a military man, and I came across a website called Brides Across America .
Brides Across America is an organization that recognizes the need for our country to do more to support our troops and their loved ones. Many bridal salons across America have been donating dresses to this foundation. Brides Across America also accepts donations of used dresses, veils, and accessories.

It’s 1:00 a.m. on the day of our wedding, and I’m writing this from my hotel room. Party Person N is asleep nearby and junior party person M is asleep in the living room (yes, my hotel room has a living room!), yet here I am so amped up that I can barely even fathom the thought of closing my eyes. I know I need to sleep, but I feel this intense need to keep my eyes open and take all of this in—like sleeping for even a second might mean missing out on part of this crazy-wonderful-magical time. I’ve been sensing the ’wedding bubble’ around me all day today, and I know that the feeling of this moment won’t last forever. I’m trying very hard to take the sage advice offered in my bee twin Miss Seal’s last post, and just breathe and stay in that moment for as long as I can.
Tomorrow morning I will wake up and do a little bit of a decoration set-up, then I will sit back and wait for all the rest of the meticulously planned pieces to fall into place. To say that I’m thrilled wouldn’t even begin to cover it.

Wow, it’s already been more than a month since Mr. Cannon and I went and made it official.

After the incredible toasts and the delicious dinner (that unlike many couples, we actually ATE), it was on to the tradition of “cutting the cake” - only we didn’t have cake. Nope…no cake. Need a refresher on why? Click here.
Enter the land of mini-pies.
Spoiler - our “cutting” pie is in view at the top there.
Hello mini-pies, I love you.
