Even before I received the good news about Wren Chapel, I was thinking about wedding colors. Since I was a child, I’ve had a love affair with pink. Ever the perpetual girly girl, pink and I made sense together; however, when it came to wedding planning, I never even considered pink. From the very beginning, it has been all about yellow. Yellow roses have been my favorite flower for as long as I can remember. Maybe it’s because they remind me of the great state of Texas, where I lived for several years. <3 I can’t pinpoint when or why I started loving them, but there’s something about yellow roses that just makes me happy.
Since yellow flowers were pretty much a non-negotiable, I began researching complementary colors. That’s when I first came across the modern and sophisticated combination that is yellow and gray. (Swoon.) There’s something about these colors together that is incredibly chic. Being the little type-A planner I am, I immediately started printing pictures of flower arrangements, table settings, and bridesmaids’ dresses that fit the style. I shared my photos with a few friends and they were all completely on board.

Hive, I am here with a true success story. A testimonial, if you will.
Way back in August, which is marked in my mind by the number of months away from our wedding (just under six months), I read a blog post. This blog post changed my world. I’m not exaggerating. Things changed after that moment.
Mrs. Macarons, then Miss Macarons, wrote a post about nails. She talked about having trouble growing her nails. I could relate to that post. It spoke to me.
As a nervous nail biter, a pianist, and a scientist, my nails had always been short thanks to years of lab work, recitals, and nerve-inducing situations (med school interviews anyone?). I figured they would always be that way since fake acrylics weren’t for me. But when I read her post, I knew there could be more for me.
I purchased the product from the website she mentioned the very next day. It was cheaper online that it is in CVS. I started using it as a base coat and top coat over my nail polish. Over the last few months, my approach has evolved, and I’m so pleased with the results, I simply have to share.

When I started dress shopping, there was one brand that stood out above all the others: Watters. I was beyond convinced that my dress was going to end up being one of their creations, which are filled with lace, three-dimensional floral details, and all things pretty. Unfortunately, of the eight salons I had managed to shop in, only two carried the brand. And of those two salons, they each only had one Watters sample. BAHHH. I was not a happy camper. I decided I had to go to a store that carried most of the line, and so I traveled an hour and a half away to another city in search of my beautiful Watters dresses. Before I tried them on, these were some of the clear contenders.

Dallas: Loved the V neckline, loved the lace and floral detailing!

It’s a banner day in the Mole household: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 was just released. Perhaps you have this box lying around your house as well? You very well might: analysts predict that this game might sell as many as 18 million copies by January 1st.

After a glorious day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, we spent the remaining three days soaking up all the Disney we could handle. There are whole books dedicated to visiting Disney, so this certainly will not be an all inclusive guide, just our experiences as honeymooners.
Lodging
There are plenty of options for lodging in and around Disney and Orlando, but Mr. P and I decided to stay on Disney property. Hotels at Disney range from crazy expensive to economical (aka slightly less than crazy expensive). We decided to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter, which is considered an intermediate hotel, because we wanted to splurge on our honeymoon, but still be able to pay our rent.

After the processional, mass began. We had a full Catholic mass on our wedding day. I know some people feel like a full mass is too long for their guests to sit, and I understand that. But to us, the ceremony was the most important part of the wedding, and we didn’t think an hour was too long to sit when we were vowing to spend the rest of our lives together.
I was SO nervous during our ceremony. I had butterflies all morning, but it really got out of control when I got to the front of the church. It had nothing to do with being nervous to get married, I knew with all of my heart that I wanted to marry the man standing next to me.

After sharing my inspiration for a bridal bouquet, I got a little distracted by the completion of our save-the-dates (okay, I confess that not all of them are addressed yet, but they are all assembled!), but it’s time now to get back to pretty, colorful flowers!
The package we have selected from our venue includes 3 bridesmaids bouquets. Now, you may recall that I have 4 lovely bridesmaids. Luckily, our venue was willing to accommodate this and told us that they could make 4 bouquets, they would just have to be on the small side. We’ll take it!
I didn’t want to deny my bridesmaids of beautiful bouquets, but the more I looked at inspiration pictures, the more I realized that size doesn’t matter (insert inappropriate joke/comment of your choice here). Look at these darling bouquets that are small in size and huge in charm:

I know a lot of people are leaning towards not inviting children to weddings these days. All of our guests with children are coming from out of town, and I feel bad about separating families for the weekend…plus, I love kids. The things they do are so funny. Want extra reasons to invite kids? They make good use of the dance floor and take really cute photographs.

Since I’ve come clean with my issue of patience, I’m sure this next confession will hardly come as a surprise… I started planning out details of the wedding (only in my head, I swear!) before I was formally engaged. (I certainly can’t be alone in this, right?) From the very beginning, for whatever reason, there was NO question in my mind about where I wanted to get married. I attended a small public school in Williamsburg, Virginia, and my experiences and memories there stuck with me. Besides the historical aspect, there really isn’t much going on in the ‘burg; however, what it lacks in entertainment, Williamsburg makes up for in beauty. Quiet, quaint, and picturesque are all words that accurately describe the ‘burg. And although these things perhaps aren’t the perfect ingredients for a party school, they certainly do make up the recipe of my ideal wedding locale.

One of the questions that are asked of me most frequently is, “How do you choose new bee bloggers?” Well, we like to think that they choose us.
All applicants apply to become bees—we don’t recruit bloggers beyond occasional posts showing off our new and current generations of icons and a link to where and how you can apply. In an attempt to demystify the process, here’s how Weddingbee goes about reviewing all our blogger applications!
ALL applications and corresponding applicants’ blogs are read carefully by a 12 person committee made up of current and past bee bloggers. The committee is anonymous to the public, to keep the process fair.
I…am…an…addict. Yes, I admit it, I am addicted to wedding-dress shopping. For almost a full month after getting engaged I did not allow myself to walk into a bridal salon. I knew that Mama Elk would be hurt if I began the search without her, and since we were five hours apart and I was on my surgery rotation, there was no way we could get together until I was on break from school. When I did finally allow myself to begin the dress-search process, I became crazed. I would walk into a bridal salon and, in a frenzy, rummage the racks. I would pull three dresses at a time, dragging them in my wake. I did not listen to the advice of consultants. I was manic. I pulled dress after dress onto my body, sausaged into my Spanx.
I went to nine different salons in three different cities, some on multiple occasions. I tried on well over 50 dresses, all within a three-month period. While I never went to a blowout sale, or Kleinfelds for that matter, I feel that Monica sure represents who I was while dress shopping (read: crazy).
PS: Don’t you just love their version of Kleinfeld? I especially love how few brides are waiting and how unimpressive their version of the store looks!

I could spend a whole post, or even a series of posts (maybe even a whole blog), talking about how you know it’s love. Or how you know you’ve found “the one.” There are countless ways to measure and evaluate this and even more details to debate on the nature of love and commitment. As fascinating as all of this is, there is one rather alarming sign of love that I have encountered recently: A newfound fear of flying.
I have heard of people who developed fears out of the blue or even after a traumatic event. But developing a fear because you are in love?! That sounds like crazy talk! I have been flying for a long time and have always found the experience enjoyable, even in tiny planes. Even in planes that I happen to be jumping out of!
![]() |
| Yes, when I was a young Aardvark of only 18 I decided it would be worth while to jump out of a perfectly good airplane |
However, in recent months I have been traveling more for work. This of course involves getting on more planes. I have not had the super panicky fear of flying that some people have but I have had a certain uneasiness that is totally new to me.
A quick little detailed interlude before I start talking about the reception, dancing, photo booth, and pie.
The details. Now there have been a number of posts recently out in weddingblogland about saying ‘no’ to the vintage typewriter/mason jars/hay bales/jam favours/whatevers, and talk that the plethora of wedding bloggers is maybe leading people to focus more on OMG THE DETAILS than the marriage. All very interesting posts, as are the ‘rebuttals’ (for lack of a better word). We did work hard to make sure there were nice details at our wedding, but we know that that isn’t the focus of the event. The important thing was that we got married. That was the highlight of both our days. But in the time leading up to the wedding, I had a lot of fun planning what things would look like. It’s not often I get to throw a party this big, and frankly, I like decorating. You should see our house at Christmas!
All that to say, yes, the marriage is the important part. But the details were pretty, and some were even captured by our photographers. I would like to share them not to make you feel like you have to make jam for your guests or you won’t be married, but to inspire you like the photos of all sorts of weddings all over the blogosphere inspired me.
