So following our gorgeous ceremony, I ducked away for a quick change. Thanks to my uber talented Mom and my very generous Aunt, I was able to subtly change up my look for the reception. I’m a very lucky girl.
Enter slightly-more-glammed-up-Mrs. Frog:
Behold…hair up and new sash…faaaaancy
At this point, I didn’t know anyone was around other than Mr. Frog. We hadn’t planned a formal entrance to the reception, we just hoped to kinda slip in quietly and make the rounds. Typing that now, I realize how ridiculous that sounds…oh yeah, we’ll just slip in, nobody will EVER notice. Bride brain at its finest, folks.

When it comes to the big day we ALL obsess over something related to our appearance. I have never heard of a bride who was like “um, I’ll wear my burlap sack and stick a ribbon around my bird’s nest unwashed fro.” Even the brides on My Big Redneck Wedding (oh where has that show gone?) care about their appearance—even if they were getting married over a swamp. *Nothing against real life self-proclaimed rednecks out there. That show was just freakin-a nuts!
My usual concerns for any event that involves looking nice includes worrying about breakouts, my big hair, flare ups of these annoying red bumps I get on my arms, and underarm boob. You know, that fun piece of blubber in the armpit area that looks like a baby boob when squashed at just the right angle.
Hmmm, I sound real attractive right now. I swear I’m not a troll living under a bridge on the regular, but when it comes to nice events I pay more attention to these things. And as a bride it’s on my mind, of course. Definitely a lot more. I think many of us can agree that we over analyze how we will look on our wedding day, and lately I’ve been thinking: WHY? I mean obviously we don’t want to look bad. But, why do we suddenly need to be perfect on ONE day—especially when our significant other, family, and friends already know what we look like pretty well.
Why in the who-ha do we have this obsessive need to look “perfect” on our wedding day. (MOVIES, TELEVISION, THE DEVIL?)

I absolutely love the look of burlap incorporated into the decor at weddings. It has been the object of my inspiration affection for months now. Since we are four months away from the wedding, details like these are finally starting to come into play.

But burlap on the beach? Can it be done? To me, burlap has a really rustic, country feel to it and I tried Googlin’ pictures of weddings on the beach that had burlap, but I didn’t come up with anything as striking as these pictures…
HI Y’ALL!
I am so completely overcome with excitement, shock, and maybe even a dash of disbelief mixed in to be writing my first official post as a bee! I feel incredibly blessed and honored to be able to share my wedding journey with y’all. Being one of the first couples in our group of friends to tie the knot, being cross-country from my family, and attending only one wedding in my adult life, I was so L.O.S.T. when it came to wedding planning. But when I found Weddingbee, I truly felt like I found a group of supportive, wedding-crazed friends to help me along my way. I hope that I can provide the same support and inspiration that y’all have provided me!
So on to a little bit about the Hawks:

I’ve been trying to plan a party for my bridesmaids for quite some time. Because there are a bajillion of us, it’s been hard to get a time that works for all of us. A friend of mine sells Mary Kay and she doesn’t live in the city, so that was another person to coordinate times with.
But last night the stars (and our schedules) aligned and we were able to all get to my apartment at nearly the same time and have our party. We had chicken, pizza, salad, and screwdrivers. And we had music and good conversation.
But most important was the reason we were there. We were there to sample Mary Kay products. This event was all about skin care. We will get together next month and that will be all about makeup (I think) and then we will get together one more time.
The end result is that each girl will have a color palette for her makeup especially designed for her skin tone and the color of the bridesmaid dress.

When we were finished with hair and makeup, it was time to head to the church to get dressed.
My dress was ready and waiting for me when I arrived, looking pretty.

Before dress shopping I had never really heard of the brand Marissa, because they do not advertise. Many of the salons I visited carried their dresses, and since they’re simple and in my price range I found myself trying on a lot of them
I really wanted to like this dress with bias-cut layers, but it didn’t do much for my body. Having a belt with it, though, made it a lot more appealing.
This is the dress that made me realize I wanted to wear something fitted. In the store I didn’t think much of it, but once home and looking at pictures I LOVED how this dress accentuated my waist. I tried this dress on in two other stores, but in the end felt it wasn’t quite right.
tanbarr goes for the glam shot!

Howdy, Hive! Just your friendly, neighborhood Miss Seal here checking in.
The Mr. and I leave for our hotel in San Francisco tomorrow and the excitement is really building. Family and friends have started arriving from their OOT destinations and the calls are flooding in. I still can’t believe I am getting married…the day after tomorrow.
So remember that calm before the “inevitable storm” I spoke of? Well, as it turns out…the storm has yet to hit. I’m still waiting for the crazy to slap me across the face, but I’m hoping it’s just not gonna happen. I mean, I did get those two teeth extracted, but with the exception of a bit of soreness and eating more slowly, the swelling is gone and I feel good.
The lovely Miss Ferris Wheel (my date/city/birthday bee twin) even sent me this adorable bouquet on the day of my oral surgery. It definitely put a swollen smile on my face.
Anyhow, I’m writing today not so much to update you on my life, but to let you know that you can and will get through wedding planning.

After Mr. Lion and I finished our first dance, it was time for me to dance with Papa Lion. I had chosen the song years ago, before Mr. Lion and I were even engaged. My dad wanted to be surprised, so I kept it a secret until that moment. As soon as Mr. Lion and I finished dancing, the DJ started playing St. Judy’s Comet by Paul Simon, a song my dad used to sing to me as a lullaby when I was little.
The reason we’re laughing in this photo is because my dad responded to his surprise with, “Oh! Far out!” I mouthed “far out” as he said those words, because I knew that’s how he would respond.

Last Friday was a pretty good mail day here: voting ballot, Room and Board catalog, Time magazine, wedding invitation. The last piece of mail was particularly exciting. Mr. Mole’s good friends—and fellow greyhound owners—are getting married after dating for years and years. While the news of their marriage wasn’t particularly surprising, the details of their wedding were. They are getting married the weekend before Thanksgiving—in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Mr. Mole and I are also having a destination wedding. However, I have to be honest that my first thoughts about their wedding were something eloquent like, “Ack! How much are plane tickets going to be? How much will the hotel room be? Are we going to have to rent a car? How long is that flight going to be? What are we going to do about the dog? Can we take off enough time from work to make this cross-country trip worthwhile?
Now that I have chosen my dress, it’s time for me to really start pulling together my total wedding look. We all know that I already have my shoes picked out (which I still pull out occasionally to admire). I know that they don’t really match the style of my dress, but I love the thought that I put into them, what they represent, and that they will be comfortable.

I already have a necklace in mind for the day of:

Say hello to our newest Southern belle of a bee—Miss Hawk!

Miss Hawk, Richmond, VA
Age and Occupation: 26, Finance
Fiance’s Age and Occupation: 30, District Supervisor
Engagement Date: March 13, 2011
Wedding Date: May 2012
Venue: The Chapel of the Sir Christopher Wren Building, 2007 Legacy Hall
About Me: I’m an Arizona-born girl who has spent the majority of my life living below the Mason-Dixon line. The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.
You know that feeling of getting ready for something really fun and important with your best friends? And everyone is running around borrowing makeup, getting help with their hair, laughing hysterically about who-knows-what, and dancing around to the best high school sing-alongs?
That was totally my wedding afternoon.
We did it—we finally decided on our food. Yes, we waited until just over two months before our wedding to do so, but it’s done. I’m sure you are wondering why in the world we waited so long, especially when we’ve been engaged for fifteen months now. We’ve actually known for quite a few months what we would be doing, but it just kept getting pushed to the bottom of the list, until I couldn’t take it anymore—I needed to get this checked off!
Food is very important to Mr. Honey. He really enjoys food he likes. I call it picky, but he doesn’t like that word. We both agreed that we wanted it casual, tasty, and plentiful. We love prime rib and roasted chicken as much as the next person but between our budget and the feel we are going for, we knew a simple meal would be more fitting. We tossed around a couple of ideas, looked at some of our catering options in Durango and ultimately decided on BBQ. Enter Serious Texas BBQ.

We started talking with our neighbor one day a few months back, who happens to be part of the Serious Texas empire and it just made sense that we serve a local staple at our wedding.
