OK hive, I’ve gone on long enough about the lengthy search for my wedding ring. You are probably wondering what the heck I ended up choosing, so I present to you my shiny treasure!
After weeks of revisiting the jewelry store to recheck if this was reeeaaaaally the ring I wanted, Mr. Funnel Cake purchased it last Christmas and shortly after New Year I was bringing my precious home to wait for ten months until our wedding would arrive. I may or may not have tried the ring on several thousand times before the wedding. But only to make sure it still fit, you know?
We found this bold, classic beauty at Sutter in Winterthur. Sutter had many more sumptuous diamond choices than most other jewelry stores and the elderly woman running the store had more personality than any other jeweler we had met. She seemed much more understanding and eager to help than other jewelers and I enjoyed her sassy attitude about jewelry. She certainly had her own thoughts about what is classic and what is not and she was more than helpful in providing us with lots of choices.
Would you believe that for how much I talked about loathing Meister rings, in the end, I ended up getting one without even realising it???
At .62 carats, this ring sported lots more bling than the .12 carats in my engagement ring and with its weight it could certainly hold its own if I decided/needed to wear the ring alone. I was ecstatic that with so many carats, the band still has a low enough profile that it sits below my engagement ring, which I felt complements the proportions of my engagement ring.
It was pretty important to me that the wedding ring sit lower, and I am really happy we found something that works so well!
The five diamonds in the wedding band match the five stone count in my engagement ring. We didn’t really do this on purpose, but I really like that the number of stones matches. The jeweler told us that many people add a diamond per year to the ring until it is an eternity band, but we have a few reasons why we won’t be doing that.
OK, that up there is not Mr. Funnel Cake’s ring on the left. That’s my original engagement ring again. We did however, finally choose a ring for Mr. Funnel Cake as soon as I had made my ring decision. While Mr. Funnel Cake thought he would just pick a ring and that would be it, I had convinced him to try on some rings at various stores along the way and he knew he didn’t want too thick or thin a band and that having a comfort fit was important to him. Mr. Funnel Cake surprised himself by all these ring preferences he had, but it’s important that you get a comfortable ring to wear! Below are a couple images that his ring makes an appearance in:
While we weren’t getting typical his and hers German-style wedding rings, it was important to Mr. Funnel Cake that our rings matched. I had thought about getting gold or rose-coloured wedding bands, and had I done that, Mr. Funnel Cake would have gotten a matching metal. He was interested in brushed metal rings, but ultimately he wanted his ring to look like it belonged with my ring, so he chose a shiny white gold band.
Another important part about the ring process to Mr. Funnel Cake was that we engrave the rings. I didn’t really care whether my band was engraved or not, but since my ring would have space on it, I decided to get a matching engraving with Mr. Funnel Cake and because my ring is engraved, I will never want to add any stones to cover up what we put inside!
Was it important to you and your SO to have similar style bands or did you choose something completely different from each other?
