Miss Kettle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & Teacher Engagement Date: May 29, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2012 Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.

It’s Time To DIY!

December 1st, 2011 @ 2:23 pm by Miss Kettle

After breathing a huge sigh of relief that all the big decisions were made for the wedding, I realized I still had a ton to do. But I felt good about this, y’all. I had a lot o’ DIY projects to get started on. I had checked a good number of things off my huge list, but nothing from that first column: the DIY column.

Personal image: Checking more off each day, but I’ve got to do better on that first column!

My DIY projects are numerous. And there are less than 75 days to our wedding. But I think we can do it! I started with my idea for table numbers.

I’ve searched high and low for what I was thinking of. I didn’t find anything similar to what I had in mind. The luck I had with my guestbook idea was not to be repeated. Oh well!

For your entertainment, a cartoon to explain my efforts.

And just what did my trip to Hobby Lobby yield?

Personal image: That’s everything I need to make everything on my to do list except the OOT bags. Don’t even ask how much it cost, but I think it is less than what I’d pay someone else…

Yup, that’s a lot of stuff. Looking at it makes me excited, though. I can’t wait to share with you how I’ve tackled that large pile of stuff and turned it into usable stuff for our wedding!

Are you doing DIY projects? What was the hardest one to tackle for your wedding?

I DIY-ed pretty much everything for my wedding…and I’m on the same page with you - table numbers were the hardest! They ended up just getting kinda thrown together at the last minute as my extended family was helping us finish setting up the reception hall before our rehearsal. :(

I love love love your white board too? Is that in your house? I’m gonna have to talk to my DH! haha
! So yes I am doing a DIY wedding. However, unlike most of hive I have zero artistic talent. I go out and buy neat stuff to create these awesome visions I have in my head then they turn out like crap and I end up throwin the idea/used items out. I’m still saving $$$ at this point but it’s unfortunate there’s so much waste due to my inability to create nice looking things. I wish I had talent lol! I’m also very envious of your stock pile! Have fun and post your updates. For us non skilled DIYers it’s much appreciated!

I love your little drawings, kettle!! I made a big trip to hobby lobby back in like May (13 months before the wedding hahaha) and bought a ton of stuff. That has satiated me for a while. I’m gonna be busy DIYing again once I get closer though!

Yay can’t wait to see all your projects! I have a million on my list too, but so far all I’ve managed to complete is the STD.

I’m glad you all like the whiteboard. If you want one, just head to Staples or Office Depot and pick one up. I have mine in my bedroom, which might seem weird, but I get some of my best ideas when I first wake up and look a that board. I’m not kidding.
