The South has definitely earned a special place in my heart (alongside my Virginia born and bred fiance, of course!). We are planning a traditional Christian ceremony at my alma mater in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, followed by a rocking reception filled with Southern cooking and vintage/shabby chic details. When we’re not wedding planning, we enjoy spending time with our three dogs, going for runs together, watching plenty of football (or baseball depending on the season), and sampling new wine.

Love Affair…with My Hair??

December 5th, 2011 @ 12:52 pm by Miss Hawk

This may sound a little silly, but I L.O.V.E. my hair (and the versatility of it!). From a very young age, my mom meticulously styled my hair with a new look daily: braids, ribbons, bows, curls, and ponytails. In my world, every day was a new adventure in hair. Apparently wanting to change up my look with different hairstyles stuck with me all these years. Changing my hair to combat boredom has been my MO:

College years: Long with highlights: “Look ma, no hands!”

Back to dark last winter

Because my hairstylist happens to be a good friend of mine and knows my penchant for hairstyle ADD, one of the first things she asked me after getting engaged was what color and what length my hair would be for the wedding. She wanted me to plan ahead so we would be ready. I decided to go long and stick with natural-looking highlights. (This is the way I feel most “me,” and it’s the style I consistently come back to after major changes.) The only problem? No changing up my hair. The thought of it makes me mentally squirm. No more fun spur-of-the-moment cuts or dye jobs just for kicks. My hair is all business till May. I have a feeling I’m going to be running to the salon for a major change-up once the wedding is over.

Currently long and highlighted (This face is for you, Chels. You’re killing me!)

How did you plan in advance for your wedding-hair look? Does anyone else out there suffer from hair ADD like me?

I’m the same way!!! I change my hair drastically and often… Right after I got engaged I went from almost black to honey blonde… Now I have to keep it this way! It’s killing me not to go dark or red or chop it off!!! I’m just trying to stay focused on how well the blonde will go with my overall bridal look and stay away from hair blogs… ;)

My hair has been almost exactly the same my whole life. I’m not sure why! I cut it off to a short bob once, and it took me 5 years (yes, YEARS) to get it long again, so maybe I am scarred from that.

Oh my gosh! I am on the “Bored with my hair and not wanting it to be too crazy for the wedding boat”. I had blue streaks this time last year and now I’m trying to suck it up and not do anything too nutso.

I am the same way! My hair started off black this year and went light brown (almost blonde), then I grew out my bangs and went ash brown. Now it’s back to black but I have betty page bangs! lol….how will I decide what to do on my wedding I don’t know. I’m thinking side bangs and fairly dark and long.

Haha I haaaaaated my hair when I started growing out and assumed I would chop it off after the wedding…but now I am kind of liking it long haha. And I love the color of your hair! It has a beautiful dark honey color to it…gorgeous!

I just chopped my hair off to an inverted bob that’s just slightly below my chin! I had wedding hair plans before the cut and now they’ve all been thrown out the window.

You wear all those different looks so well! I have a feeling a very fun and drastic PWC will be coming our way in a few months!

You have gorgeous hair! I’m in the same boat–I’m a hair chameleon. Except I’ve never dyed mine. After the wedding I think it’ll be time to do that once and for all!

I can’t believe how different your hair looks in each of those pictures! I love it long with the highlights - great choice :) Although I must say, I also can’t wait to see what drastic change you make post-wedding!

I just commented to the dress lady while trying on dresses “I am so bored with my hair… I want a change!” She gasped and said no. I’ve grown it to my elbows. I’m 8 months out but I cannot WAIT for a PW-chop or a PW-change!

I used to make drastic changes to hair every 6 months or so. Dying it insane colors, chopping it off, giving myself bangs, etc. I’ve been growing it out for like 3 years now and it’s allllll the way down my back. It’s going to take all the self-control in the world to keep it this length (and color) for the next 6 months!

@FutureMrsPatterson: I feel you. Focusing is sooo difficult!

@Mrs. High Wire: Too funny! My hair must grow extremely fast. I think it only took about a year to grow out my bob…

@Miss Aardvark: Boredom is killing me! Even different styles aren’t pacifying me anymore…

@adage: Side bangs and long sounds beautiful!

@Miss Doe: Thank you! I can’t see how you’d hate your hair. It’s gorgeous!

@gmcurtis: Time to look for more inspiration photos! ;)

@Mrs. Parasol: Thank you. :) I feel it coming. Mr. Hawk’s not so excited about it, haha…

@Miss Unicycle: Thanks! Ooh. You first dye? I’m looking forward to reading about it after your wedding!

@Miss Dalmatian: I’m so anxiously awaiting a change!

@jacinda10: Wow! I can’t believe you had the patience to grow it out that long! I can’t imagine how twitchy I’d be at that point!

@TinyTina: Good luck. It’s a struggle, but I’m right there with you!

I love that you can wear your hair so many different ways! It looks great no matter what, and I’m sure it will once again on wedding day!
