Airbrushed Makeup Trial

December 8th, 2011 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Sunhat

In between my first dress fitting and bachelorette party, (which I’ll post about next!), this past Saturday, I was able to squeeze in my makeup trial.

I wear makeup every day so I’m not afraid of going for a more dramatic look for the wedding. Bare Minerals is my current choice for foundation and concealer, but thanks to you smart and informed peoples here on the Hive, I learned that this type of makeup does not photograph well. Apparently it reflects the light and can make you look like a grease face. Yeah - that doesn’t sound very bridal to me!

After learning this tidbit of info, I knew airbrush was the direction I wanted to go. I’ve never worn airbrush makeup, but my FSIL did for her wedding and she looked radiant.

My makeup artist, Anjelica, asked that I bring pictures of makeup looks that I liked. Pinterest to the rescue again!

I love a strong eye with soft cheeks and lips. I needed the look to be appropriate for our ceremony, but transition well to our festive reception.

So here is my horrific before photo, sans makeup:

What a vacant expression!!

And the after:

Airbrushed Makeup Trial : wedding dyer makeup trial Face2 face+2

These really are 3 separate photos - MOB just kept zooming out more and more.

I LOVE the eyes. She applied partial false eyelashes just on the outside corners. The eyeliner is black but the darker eye color is like a smoky gray / navy. I wasn’t crazy how the lip color lasted but she will be giving me a tube of it for touch ups on the wedding day. She also will give me some blotting papers. I get oily pretty quick so that will come in handy.

This makeup is supposed to be high definition and should photograph (by a professional) very well. As long as I can keep the oil and shine in check, I’ll be a happy girl.

Have you worn airbrushed makeup before? Did you love how it photographed?

I feel you on the shine wars! I blot all day, everyday! Am nervous about oil and wedding pictures….ugh.

At least we will age well!

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! (Had to type that out because I am literally doing cartwheels over here!). You are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, Sunhat! I love everything, especially your eyes. Oh my gosh, you’re going to be such a stunning bride.

Love your pictures! You look so glamorous.

My makeup has to be DIY because with formal pictures at 9:00 am I’m doing makeup at 6:30 (Usually I leave my house at 6:15 so this is not that early for me).

But, I did get the “HD” primer and base from Sephora and the “airbrush effect” foundation brush to try and get that airbrushed look. One of my friends is very good at applying makeup so I’ll be trusting her to make me look as glam as you!

A little less glam… morning ceremony and all ;)

I wear airbrushed foundation every day, and I love it with all my heart and soul. It will stay in place all night. I’ve never had it photographed, though, so I can’t really speak to that part of it.

To get shine free, use Urban Decay’s DeSlick setting spray on your face BEFORE primer, and again after your face is 100% done. Seriously, it makes a world of difference using it at 2 different points in the make-up application process.

The makeup looks great (and your eyes are GORGEOUS)! By the way, your before picture is not horrific - you have great skin and rosy cheeks!

You have such beautiful BLUE eyes! I wore airbrushed makeup @ my daughter’s wedding as well as the bridal party–it photographed really, really well! Wish I could have professional make up applied every day…
