Miss Unicycle's Picture
Miss Unicycle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 23, Editor for a Web Publishing Company Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, MD/PhD Student Engagement Date: March 26, 2011 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Bridges of Poplar Creek About Me: I’m a writer by trade who likes analyzing pop culture, making fun of celebrities, and laughing until I cry. I’m the queen of half-assed crafts, and there’s nothing I won’t try to DIY. You can usually find me reading blogs on my laptop in front of a good Lifetime movie, wine in hand. I’m planning a polka-dotted summertime wedding to my physics geek college sweetheart, and when I’m not making stupid puns I’m freaking out about my wedding timeline.
About Miss Unicycle

Mr. Unicycle had a good laugh when he saw “Moo Cards” on our wedding to-do list, but Vistaprint got the last laugh because I ended up just ordering 250 business cards through them FO’ FREE. Let me back up. I’d seen several other bees use mini Moo cards featuring engagement pics that direct guests to a public Flickr account where they can share pictures they take at their wedding. I love this idea because I know I’ll be waiting on pins and needles for our pro pics to come back, so having guest photos all in one place = winning.

My first step was to create a Flickr account. I ended up first creating a Yahoo account, since Flickr is through Yahoo. I didn’t want to go through my existing Yahoo account because then I’d have to give guests my real password. And it’s kind of an embarrassing password. It involves a certain man with Jheri curls. We debated whether to upgrade to a pro account or not and eventually decided…(drum roll please)…to wait until we get closer to the wedding to actually make a decision. Then I dabbled in Picnik for the first time ever and came up with an overly cutesy design:

Then, since Vistaprint was running a “limited time,” which is to say “all the time” sale of 250 free business cards, I pounced on it. Slowly. Since I knew it would be around…forever. Seriously, Vistaprint is always giving away everything FO’ friggin FREE. I don’t know how they stay in business. I did have to pay a small upload fee to use my own lovely design, and of course shipping, but the business cards themselves were free. I was so anxious to see them when they arrived that I mutilated the cute little box.

But then I remembered my camera.

They look perf! Well, the yellow isn’t as vibrant as I’d hoped, but other than that, perf. I’m planning on tucking them into the invitation suite (once I finish start it). And since I have more than I need, perhaps I’ll tuck some into the thank you notes as well!

Do you think our guests will use our Flickr account after the wedding? What’s a good way to encourage people to use it?

Unicycle, these are amazingly cute. You could also leave some around your wedding, like cocktail tables or at the guestbook table.

No joke about VistaPrint doing this forever. My mom ordered fake business cards for me and my sister when I was in middle school (maybe 7th grade). I’m graduating college in May. Not a very “limited” offer there!

I set up a flickr pro account for this purpose. I love it for personal use, but I didn’t get a single guest photo uploaded. However, I got married two years ago and there seems to be a new uploader that makes batch uploading easier. Just have a way to get your guests clear and concise instructions and hopefully you’ll have better luck! Cute cards, btw.

This is such a good idea! I just may have to steal it! I think putting them in the thank you notes is a good idea (assuming they are sent pretty quickly) because that way they won’t lose it between when they get the invite and when they have the pictures - not that I don’t trust our guests, but that is totally something I would do. Anyway, those cards are ADORABLE!

So cute! Can you somehow attach them to your favors for a more instant gratification? Like maybe getting pics the next day?!?!?

These are amazing! I can’t believe you just started “dabbling” in Picnik and these are the result. Job well done!

These are so cute! We had (not nearly as cute) cards similar to this and put them near our photobooth and then I stuck them in our thank you notes as well. Pretty sure no one used them anyway.

I had a hard time getting people to upload pictures to our shutterfly share account. Three of my aunts used it and several just gave me pictures on a cd and my bridesmaids all uploaded to facebook :(

I don’t think I would send your cards out in your invitation suite - I know if I got one with my invitation I would for sure lose it before I even made it to the wedding. I guess my hope would be that if they’re near the guest book or on the tables at the reception that people will pick them up and put them in their purse with their cameras and then when they go to download their pictures they’d notice the little card again and WA LA! But like I said, that didn’t really work out as well as I’d hoped for my wedding…but maybe its just the kind of guests my family is?

Very cute!

I did this for my wedding and I know lots of people took pics but only our moms and one aunt uploaded photos.

My tip would to be put them on the tables so everyone sees them.

I plan to put them in thank you cards. Then people can look at some pics and maybe some more will upload them.

I think putting them into the thank you cards might make more sense. Reminding them after they’ve already taken the pictures might be more effective than telling them about it preemptively.

Im doing this too:)
BUT no i know uses flickr
but everyone I know has facebook.
EXCEPT ME AND MY FIANCEE!
So I just created a joint facebook for the sole reason of using as photoshare.
That way guests just had to add us
then start tagging.

That is so cute! We thought about doing this, but all of our friends and family are really Facebook savvy, and we woke up the day after our wedding to a flood of pictures. I know some people are against this, but we loved it, especially since we knew we had a lot of waiting ahead of us before we would get our wedding pics.

We made little cards (two days before the wedding, with some random at-least-7-years-old ‘parchment’-coloured perforated business card sheets) and left them on the tables at the wedding. We got about 150+ photos back (granted at least 70 were from my mum….).
