SURPRISE: Part I

December 13th, 2011 @ 7:44 am by Miss Turkey

I’m not great with surprises. I usually manage to figure things out beforehand—the engagement being an exception. However, little did I realize that just a few months later, there would be another surprise.

One May day, I received an envelope with a typed address on the front (no return) and this inside:

Yes, these are letters that are cut out from magazines.

“What in the world?” I thought as I saw the card…the inside wasn’t much more help!

Both omnious…and exciting!

For weeks I badgered Mr. Turkey to see if he knew anything about this. We were originally scheduled to spend Memorial Day weekend together, though I just couldn’t see him cutting out magazine letters (sorry).

The Monday before the weekend, I received the following email from MOH J titled “Save the Date / Plan for the Date”:

Cat’s out of the bag: I’m your weekend plans for Memorial Day!

Be ready to ship out Saturday around noon. You’ll be returned no later than early afternoon Monday.

The weekend’s attire will be casual going out wear for the evening, and daytime attire to accommodate temperatures in the high seventies: Two evenings and three days.

No need for a passport. Don’t even think about asking questions. See you Saturday.

<3 your MOH

AHHH! I had so many questions and no idea what to pack. So, of course, I packed everything I owned.

On Saturday, just around noon, there was a knock at my door and MOH J arrived. I finished putting my things together when I heard another knock. Who could it be??? I opened the door and…it was Bridesmaid M (who lives in Boston)! She had told me she was going to Nantucket for the long weekend!! Surprise #1.

I thought perhaps we were staying in Philadelphia for the weekend, but no. I was told to hop in the car and get ready for a six-hour drive. Six hours is a LONG time, and I wasn’t sure what exactly was six hours from Philly…Virginia, maybe?

I saw a lot of 95-S.

As we drove along the highway, crazy MOH J kept making false passes at exits, continuing to throw me off. We eventually found our way off the highway and made our way into DC!

Bridesmaid D and Bridesmaid C—Surprise #2. They were supposed to be at the beach!!

The afternoon consisted of some yummy snacks and Skinny Girl margaritas. All my favorite things.

As the afternoon came to a close, I was told to get dressed for dinner. We headed out for some Mexican food at our favorite DC spot (went well with the margs from earlier in the day). Yum!

We finished the night continuing to catch up over drinks…a perfect end to my surprise-filled day!

But I wasn’t going home until Monday…what was next?

What a cute and sweet idea! The suspense would have driven me crazy. I’m horrible about not knowing details of an impending surprise!
