Fakeagement Ring

December 14th, 2011 @ 2:19 pm by Miss Doe

I know I haven’t talked at all about where we are going on our honeymoon, but let’s just say it is out of the country. Let’s also just say that every time I go on vacation, I lose something, such as my favorite Juicy Couture jacket that I had found for $20 at Marshall’s that I am convinced got stolen. (Obviously I am still a little upset about that one.) Also jewelry, favorite makeup products…you name it. I don’t know what it is, I must have a hole in my suitcase or something.

This got me thinking (read: freaking out) that something would happen to my wedding ring while on our honeymoon. I wouldn’t be able to wear my ring while we are out snorkeling or swimming. I also wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it in our hotel room. This is quite the conundrum…what do I do to keep my ring safe?

The easy answer is to not bring it at all on our honeymoon. However, I’m not really down with not wearing my wedding ring as a brand new newlywed.

Enter the “fakeagement ring.”

(Surprisingly, I made that word up. Shocking, I know.) If I can find a decent looking ring to wear on my honeymoon, then I can keep my wedding ring locked up in our safe. If something should happen to my “fakeagment ring” while on our trip, then no tears will be shed and there will be zero heartache.

I had been on the search for a while now for the right ring. I needed it cheap in order to achieve the purpose, but I wanted it to look decent. I needed a good lookin’ CZ. Where do you go to find a good lookin’ CZ? Why Nordstrom, of course!

I found a dramatized replica of my ring at Nordstrom for $26. I say dramatized because it is huge. I look like a real housewife of Beverly Hills wearing this ring. The reason why I chose it though is because it had the same style as my ring.

Here is a reminder of what my real engagement ring looks like:

Here is the “fakeagement ring”:

Here they are side by side for comparison:

The ring on the right is fake and cost $26. The ring on the left is real, and well…didn’t cost $26.

I will be sad to not be wearing my real ring while on my honeymoon. However, I would be devastated if something happened to it while traveling. I will have peace of mind knowing that my real ring is safe. If something should happen to my fake ring? Who cares!

What do you think of the “fakeagement ring” idea? Do you plan on doing something similar?

I’m wearing my rings on my honeymoon. We took out a jewelry rider on our insurance to insure them for full replacement value, so I’m not too worried! And, given the fact that our hotel rooms have a safe, it’s probably better there than at our empty, safe-less apartment.

The Nordstrom ring is a great match!

Great idea! Especially if you’re prone to losing things!

I think it’s a great idea. Plus locking your real rings in a safe will mean for at least part of your honeymoon you won’t be wearing your ring. I for one am going want to world to know I’m married and on my honeymoon. At all times! hehe.
Even though we are just going on an in state honeymoon to the mountains. I hope to get a fake ring just for things like swimming ect.

Great job finding a ring so similar to yours. They are both beautiful!

I have a travel set as well! It just seems like the prudent thing to do, and even though I love my wedding rings . . . it’s fun to switch it up sometimes!

They do look alike, but of course you can tell (when put next to each other) which one’s the real one.
This is a great idea, I’d hate to lose something as important as my e-ring.

Yep! I have the exact same one that I use as my stand-in! It’s also nice to have when your ring is getting cleaned/appraised/etc!

I thought about doing this, but ultimately got lazy and didn’t, maybe once we take a trip outside of the country. I love your fake ring though, a very good replica!

Nice match! This a great idea. I recently lost an earring in Mexico and broke my sunglasses. :( I also obsessively checked the safe the whole trip for my engagement ring every time I had it off. I will probably do this our whole honeymoon too. I’m too vain not to bring it and flash it around at dinner. lol. ;)

Why would you have to take your ring (real or not) off at all? I never take mine off?

I took my engagement ring on my honeymoon cruise… And the diamond fell out! It was the worst feeling in the world to look down and see an empty setting! Luckily the store had an amazing replacement policy. However I have always had a fake engagement ring since. I wore it while my real ring was fixed and on every vacation since. I also added an insurance rider to cover it as well.

I only wore my wedding band on the honeymoon and was also worried about loosing it. Nice replica:)

I never travel with any real stones/pearls. It’s just not worth the headache. I found great fakes at the San Francisco Gift Center, the type of places that you need a wholesale license to get in. I don’t have that license but the guy who I get my vision glasses from is in there, so he gets me in. Some of the fakes are very fake looking but sometimes it is fun to have a bright purple “diamond” ring.

Do what ever makes you comfortable. If it will mean one less thing on your mind during your honeymoon, go for it.

Is this the normal thing to do? We’re popping over to asia for our honeymoon (right in the “hussle and bussle asia”, not “resort asia”) and was planning on just wearing the wedding band for fear of loosing the e-ring But then I’d get sad when looking at photos, and not to mention that horrible feeling of “Where is my ring!?!!?” when I forget I’m not wearing it. I think tomorrow I’ll have to see whats around in CZ’s

I love this idea, but Mr. Kettle wouldn’t have it. He likes me to wear my ring (I… sometimes forget to put it on after I get out the shower).

This is a great idea, and one I think my fiance will be behind when we go on our honeymoon next summer. I am PADI-certified SCUBA diver and I can just SEE my ring falling off in the ocean because my hand shrank. Very smart idea, and 26 bucks is a steal, all things considered! =)
