Fur-fect!

December 14th, 2011 @ 6:55 am by Miss Dalmatian

Note about this post: I do not mean to stir up a fur-debate, so just know that from here on out whenever I say “fur,” I mean fur-esque.

When Mr. Dalmatian and I decided on our date, we considered a few things. One thing that we didn’t really consider was the time of year, because it seemed like a given that we would get married in the spring or summer. Not only did this fit with our desire to have an outdoor ceremony, it also seemed to make the most sense with the timeline of our lives, since we would both be done with grad school. I am very happy with this decision, and can’t wait to be surrounded by lovely May flowers on our wedding day, but there is one small thing I am sad to be missing.

Sporting a glamorous fur coat!

Sometime towards the beginning of my wedding planning journey, I was on Facebook browsing pictures of a girl I knew in college (Please tell me I am not alone in Facebook-stalking the weddings of anyone who is or was an acquaintance of mine, or anyone who is an acquaintance of an acquaintance of mine…), and there was one picture that took my breath away. She and her new husband were making their exit from the reception into sprinkling snowflakes and she was wearing a stunning fur coat. It was such an Old Hollywood glamour look, and I was immediately obsessed.

Now, I do realize I am getting married in Nashville. In May. NOT in Chicago in December. But I was not quite ready to let this one go. So I took the fur look, and combined it with another style that I have been a fan of since cutting out this picture from a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine months and months ago.

That’s right, boleros! So what do you get when you cross a fur coat with a sassy bolero? Let’s turn to my go-to wedding style experts over at BHLDN.

Furfect! Sorry, I couldn’t resist using this pun one more time. I immediately bookmarked it. I went back to the site and admired it on a regular basis, but wasn’t pulling the trigger quite yet just because it didn’t seem like an urgent need and I figured I would deal with it later. But then I saw that some of the other sizes had sold out - talk about lighting a fire under me! With the help of Mama Dalmatian, I browsed some other sites and stores to make sure that this was exactly what I wanted. Sure enough, I didn’t find anything I liked more so I finally went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Personal Photos. Pardon the awkward angle and unwashed hair.

I was so excited when it arrived that I ripped into the box in the car while still in the post office parking lot, and then rushed home to try it on.

As I slid my arms into it, I was so happy because 1) it looked just how I imagined it and 2) this was literally the softest thing I had ever put on.

Did you have any wedding wants that didn’t work with your season? Are you wearing any sort of cover-up attire on your wedding day?

I would have had to gone with realistic fake fur personally. But it does look great!

So cute! Glad it’s not a dalmatian print, then we’d have to call you Cruella! ;)

I’m wearing a (faux) fur stole! Definitely the highlight of a winter wedding wardrobe. However I haven’t decided if I’m going to wear it at all for the ceremony or just at the reception.

I might look for a shrug, although I think I might go in a different direction than fur.

I probably won’t go in this direction, either. Haha.

The one you got is so fun, I <3 it!

Yes for me a bolero has been on my list of must have’s since the moment I knew I was having a circus theme. There are so many great ones on etsy too, I can’t make up my mind. I thankfully have it narrowed down to 2.

@medsie35: Haha, I definitely did not want to go that route!
@Lexy: That will be so pretty and cozy in the winter!
@Mrs. Pony: Thanks :)
@Miss Ke Aloha: Yea, I just couldn’t resist the bolero look.
@Miss Mole: Oooh, that would be awesome! I think the fur is abotu as crazy as Mr. D would want me to go :)
@knvprincess143: Thank you. A circus theme will be so awesome! I skimmed etsy, but got overwhelmed with all the choices - props to you for sifting through them all!

I had dreams of a “colder” wedding date because I absolutely LOVE the bolero / fur look.

If you can do it in Nashville in May…I feel like maybe I can pull it off in Philly! I am cold a lot, after all (hear me starting to rationalize a purchase)…

I’m still getting most of my wedding wants despite having a wedding in February. Because it’s indoors in one location for the whole day, I’ll be sporting a strapless tea length dress and peep toe shoes.
I will, however, have my fur wrap for a few quick outdoor pics. I totally understand your love for that look!
