All I Want For Christmas…

December 15th, 2011 @ 9:06 am by Mrs. Sunhat

and the wedding is SNOW!!!

I’m a winter bride, and yes, we chose to have a winter wedding on purpose! People still seem to be so puzzled that we would want to get married during the time of year where, in the Midwest, it can plummet to unbelievably cold temperatures, and Mother Nature can drop 5 feet of snow on your butt overnight.

While we don’t wish to contend with this on the wedding day,

I ache to have gorgeous pictures like these:

I have no doubt we’ll still have gorgeous pictures without the white stuff, but having a thick, powdery layer on the ground adds such a romantic element to the background.

We are still too far out to get any type of decent forecast for the 31st, but here are the stats of the averages and hi/los:

Average Hi: 32 F Average Lo: 17 F

Record Hi: 60 F Record Lo: -15 F

Eh, yeah. I have no desire to try and break any weather records. I’d be pretty bummed if it was that warm—I mean, I wouldn’t be able to wear half of my cute accessories for the day!

This winter has already started out pretty goofy for Chicagoland. We’ve had a scant trace of measurable snowfall, and it has been in the 50s the last two days. So much for the initial forecast of having one of the worst winters ever.

Farmers’ Almanac predicts the weather for December 28 - 31 to be “Fair, with moderating temperatures.” What? What does that even mean? All I know is that it doesn’t say snow. Insert sad face here. However, Almanac.com predicts “Periods of rain and snow, mild.” Woo hoo! Someone is finally throwing the ’S’ word around.

To me, it doesn’t really feel as Christmasy without some snow, but they (whoever ’they’ are) are calling for snow showers Christmas Eve so that is good news - for now. Let’s just all keep our fingers crossed and pray that the night of the 30th, we get a nice, fluffy snow fall. That will allow enough time to clear the roads for safe travels.

I’ll be stalking the weather websites over the next two weeks. Does the weather play a big factor for your day? Are you getting married this winter in a place that’s typically snowy? Is there snow on the ground for you yet?

I love those pictures! I think winter weddings are so charming! I went to a wedding around Christmas one year and the church was full of decorations (bonus for the couple’s budget!). It was gorgeous and the snow was on the ground!

We won’t be watching the weather too, too much for our June wedding.

I hope you get your snow!!!

ooooh me too, miss sunhat! me too!the winter wonderland look is so up my alley. my fiance’s family is from jamaica. i think i won the battle of the seasons with the ridiculous logic that his relatives would experience “new” climates. haha, whatever that means.

and what? “moderating temperatures.” really? just tell me if it’s going to snow or not, guy.

I’d be so scared that bad weather would mess up anyone trying to fly into town for our wedding day! You are brave!!

I hope you get your snow and it’s nice. I got married in Houston, in July. God it was HOT!!! I had water bottles and parasols for the guests but still, it was hot hot hot. I honestly didn’t think of getting married anytime other than the summer. I have family in West Africa and they only visit in the summer so summer it was :)

I am getting married on the 29th and I check the weather every day as if it will magically skip ahead to the 29th. I want it to snow more than anything, but at the same time we have 1.5 hours of pictures outside! My poor bridesmaids will kill me :)

I’ll be hoping you get snow on the 31st! If you don’t, you should see if your photographer would be up for a shoot when it does finally snow so you can get the shots you’ve dreamed of.

All I can say is, girl… you crazy!

Haha I hate winter/snow/cold. I’m so happy we haven’t had any snow here in NYC (except for that freak storm in October!!!). We chose our summer wedding for a very, very good reason. :D

I got married last year on December 26th and I was hoping for no snow because everyone was so sure it would snow and ruin everything. It was very frustrating with all the negativety. There was a light dusty the night before and all was well.

Yes! This post seems to have come straight from my brain. The major snow isn’t really expected until January. When I was out this morning, it was 40 degrees (Fahrenheit)!! 40! That’s way to warm for mid-December.
I’ll be wishing you pretty, non-slushy, snow for your wedding and hoping for the same thing myself in two months!

It’s so funny that you WANT snow.. but then again, if I had a winter wedding I tooootally would want it too! There’s some pictures of a wedding at our venue during the blizzard we had a few years ago and I just about died.. they were just so beautiful. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

I think if we had a winter wedding, I would want snow in the pictures. Personally, I hate cold weather and am enjoying the 60 degree heat here in North Carolina, haha.

I’ve been scouring the internet for winter wedding photos without snow. How did your wedding turn out?
