About Miss Opossum

It Happened on a Sunday…

December 16th, 2011 @ 3:40 pm by Miss Opossum

Mr. Opossum proposed on a typical Sunday. I hadn’t showered yet (we were planning on going to the gym later that afternoon), and I had been begging him to take me to get some frozen yogurt. We stopped at the ATM (because Mr. Opossum needed cash for a “surprise”) and headed over to get frozen yogurt.

While I was getting out of the car Mr. Opossum was messing with something in the back seat. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was fixing a bag of clothes that had tipped over. He was taking too long for my taste, so I told him I was going inside because I needed my yogurt… Little did I know that he was trying to get my ring out of a bag and two boxes and into his pocket without me noticing.

After we ate our frozen yogurt we headed off on our drive. He had a completely different destination in mind (he was planning on proposing to me at this awesome historic plantation in neighboring Thomasville), but I asked him to take me into this little gated neighborhood out in the boondocks. After an unsuccessful first try at sneaking through the gate, we followed a truck into the neighborhood and drove around looking for houses (a favorite pastime of ours) until we found a sign that said “Lake House.”

We followed a little gravel road down to this pretty little spot by the lake. There is this cute little building sitting in the center surrounded by tons of trees and a really great view of the water.

I automatically went into full wedding mode…planning out the “perfect little wedding.” Mr. Opossum humored me and kind of played along. It was somewhere around this point when he scrapped his original plan and decided to propose to me here. He asked me if this was the perfect spot for a wedding and asked me where we would have the ceremony. I picked a giant oak tree as the perfect spot, and he came and stood with me under it. He gave me a hug and then got down on one knee. I don’t even know if he said anything after that because I was shaking and crying and jumping up and down and asking it this was real.

He caught me by total surprise.

And when he said “Will you marry me?” I said yes.

My new ring, set like my mom’s and the tree he popped the question under!

What a great proposal story! Mine was also a complete surprise. We were at the Grand Canyon and I almost ruined it but staying we had to leave and not wanting to explore anymore, but it all worked out :)

That is such a cute story. This sounds like an amazing place for some E-pictures, if you are going to do that. Or at least one photo of the two of you under that fateful tree to hang somewhere at your wedding.

I totally understand your need for yogurt. I think the new trend of frozen yogurt places is awesome, especially the self-serve.

Thanks everyone! It was pretty awesome that it was a total surprise!

@Miss Ke Aloha: We sure did try to get this venue! Turns out they don’t rent it out unless you own a property in the neighborhood. I was sad when I found out. Our actual venue is right down the road though!
