Hello hivesters! It’s pretty swell to be back gracing the pages of the Weddingbee, and I hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season!
I began blogging for Weddingbee in January of 2010, and was married May 1st. I loved writing my recaps (perhaps most of all!) and wrote all of them over the course of July 2010, and said goodbye at the end of my last recap.
I loved the process of being assigned ten random photos from the amazing day of our wedding, and it was no small thing, given that our talented photographer, B. Scott, gave us over 1100 photos from the day!
Number 343: The first random photo chosen is moments after our first kiss as husband and wife, right after we turned to face our family and friends. we’re still right in the middle of that “holy crap, we just got MARRIED” feeling. We’re also letting our recessional song, I Believe in a Thing Called Love hit its stride before we strut down the aisle.
Number 312: I’m pretty sure this moment captures us right after our readers, but before our vows. I love the way it shows the beautiful day we were surrounded by despite getting married in a typically quite rainy early May in the DC area. You can also see how nontraditional we went in our bridal party line-ups, as my brother was my best man, and Mr. Pencils had one of his best (girl) friends stand for him, and chose his brother and best friend as co-best men.
Number 732: Perhaps one of my favorite moments from the entire toast making experience. Mr. P’s little brother, reminiscing about our six year history that led us to our wedding day, chose this precise moment to share with our guests one of his first memories: trying to build some common ground with the twelve year old boy that he was at the time and the soccer player I used to be, we were kicking the soccer ball around. Then I over-kicked it a bit- and shot the ball directly into his face.
You can see from the photo above that it still causes a bit of horror for me.
Number 858: Ah, the party. Also, a testament to no matter how much hairspray used to create my hair, by ten p.m., it was completely demolished by dancing and fun. You can also see the gifts I gave my girls in this photo, and the huge amounts of fun we had at the reception, including the fauxtobooth our photographer friend Alicia ran for us!
Number 687: Minutes before dinner began, our deejay confirmed the names of our bridal party with us for their announced entrances. I thought we were all good until he welcomed “Marsh Hall” to the party—which is, in fact, the last names of both best men. Andrew and Scott completely rolled with it, and walked in together. Classic.
Number 100: They boys had a lovely photo shoot before our first look, including staged but absolutely wonderful conversation photos capturing my favorite person and his best men. This was minutes before Mr. P had these two men deliver my awe-inspiring wedding gift.
Number 575: What may have some of my favorite parts of the day included the moment above, where the mister and I flashed our new bling during our post-wedding photo shoot. We made those rings together and were pretty proud of them!
Number 339: Immediately preceding the very first photo in this series, we kissed. I never mentioned this during my recaps, but I actually popped my foot- for photographic effect?!?- and you can see the little bump this created under my dress during our kiss!
Also, those chest bumps are totally inner-dress design fabricated!
Number 698: My lovable, affable daddy-o led the toasts of the evening. I think maybe he was a bit nervous, as most of his champagne is already gone, and this is the beginning of his toast!
Number 119: And finally, a last check of my fake eyelashes (do it! it was so worth it and made a world of difference in my photos!), and I was ready to marry this man.
Mr. Pencils and I have been married for about twenty months, and I still look at our wedding photos, and even revisit my recaps to relive the wonder that was our wedding day. This might be because I have a bit more time on my hands without television and such serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer, but who knows.
Feel free to come and visit me over at my current blog, and cheers to a wonderful, easy and inspirational wedding planning. I know the photos you receive will reflect as much joy and happiness as I feel ours do, and best of luck for your marriages, everyone!
