The more I looked at blogs like Style Me Pretty and Ruffled…the more I was set on having a vintage-themed wedding and vintage-themed tablescapes. I literally think I spent a good 15 hours Googling various combinations of “vintage wedding table” and poring through images. As I showed you all previously, we had narrowed down our “extra centerpiece items” to two choices: vintage books or vintage teapots/china. Which did we choose? Drumroll, please!

We went with the vintage teapots/china.

Actually, the lovely Fiancée Eagle made this decision, and I’m so glad she did. (I’ve got a serious case of the indecisions.) Her reasoning was that we’re planning on having more of a formal wedding, with long evening dresses and tuxes (the dreaded “black tie” wedding, if you will), and the books wouldn’t fit the “feel” we are going for. While the vintage books would have been really cute, they were more suited for a backyard/garden/more casual reception.
She reasoned that the teapots would be really unique and the china could add a bit of class to the tablescape. She also made the point that the teapots were just more “us.” I love tea, and in the past she has given me several beautiful teapots as birthday gifts.
And to be honest, I don’t really read many books. (If we could make beautiful centerpieces out of copies of scientific journals like The Journal of Anatomy…now, those would be ME!) We also decided that we would add in some milk glass to the centerpieces as well, which seems to be a huge trend in the wedding-blog world right now, but not a detail that either of us has seen at a real-life wedding before.

So, our “vintage tablescape” will include one teapot, and two to three smaller milk-glass vessels and/or china teacups per table.
Throughout my extensive research (I sometimes think I should be getting a PhD in weddings…) I encountered this beautiful inspiration shoot, and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I almost instantly sent it to our awesome wedding coordinator Louise (more about her later!), and she said she thought that it would work and that she could pull it off! Score.

So now in addition to vintage teapots, china teacups, and milk glass…we needed to start collecting a bunch of vintage frames of various sizes. This didn’t scare me—I have been shopping at vintage/thrift stores since I was 16 and I love hunting down a good deal (something I inherited from my mom). Fiancée Eagle? Not so much. She despises vintage shopping but loves vintage-looking things. So this was a project I was taking on shopping for by myself! I knew that once I had the frames, this would turn into a DIY project we would definitely do together. However…my incredibly sweet mother and aunts were all in Ontario and were on a mission to find teapots and milk glass. My mom broke her luggage coming back home because she literally filled it full of vintage teapots and milk glass. I’m talking enough for 12 tables here. Amazing! We are so lucky (and grateful!) that they scoured antique shops and found so many great items. With all of the beautiful pieces they bought for us, we only had to buy a few more ourselves.
Did you find the perfect tablescape inspiration photos? Are you also following the huge wedding-blog trend of using milk glass in your centerpieces?
