About Miss Dalmatian

With tummies still full from a massive array of appetizers, entrees, and desserts at my parents’ Christmas party, my sisters and I snuggled on the couch with a copy of Martha Stewart Wedding Cakes and got down to business.

We had flipped through the pages of this book many times before, yet the intricate detail and gorgeous artwork of the cakes still causes my jaw to drop each time. So let’s take a quick tour of some of the masterpieces that are featured among the pages of this amazing book.

I have always had a major weakness for eyelet, so this seems like a great place to start! Whenever Mama Dalmatian and I are shopping and we spot an eyelet piece on the racks, my response is always “I do love me some eyelet!” As it turns out, this prolific statement also applies to wedding cakes.

Along with eyelet, I have also always been a fan of basket-weave patterns. And while I am generally not a huge fan of fruits in desserts (this is a nice little glimpse into my not-so-ideal eating habits), the berries in this add such nice, rich color.

I loved the colors in this next one, and MOH K was particularly fond of the little bow details.

Next up, for the chocolate lover in all of us (and the cherry blossom lover in all of us):

And last, but by all means not least, the cake that I like to fondly call “the ultimate wedding cake.”

Each of its glorious layers features a different design of elaborate flowers, sweeping ribbons, and detailed scallops. When MOH A got married, she picked four layers of this cake as inspiration and had the bakery make her a stunning—I mean seriously stunning—wedding cake.

When we walked into the room where her reception was set up, and I spotted her cake, it was like seeing a celebrity. We had ooh-ed and ahh-ed over the picture in the book so many times that it seemed crazy to see it in real life! Yes, I realize I am talking about a cake and sound a bit on the crazy side, but this was a true work of art (if that makes it any better).

Are you a fan of Martha’s cake designs?

Have you ever fawned over the cake at a wedding you attended?

Haha i’m a sucker for cakes too! And apparently I am very picky? I’ve been through soooo many magazines and photos and definitely have a very real sense of what I want.

I love cake too! Which is why I demanded that Mr. D and I at least get a small one for the top of our cupcake tower! (I’m really, really, really in love the with eyelet one too!)
