About Miss Opossum

Five Months

December 22nd, 2011 @ 1:04 pm by Miss Opossum

Praise the Lord, we have a date!

Now we just have to hope that Mr. Opossum’s nephew makes his appearance on or before his due date so that his brother and sister-in-law can come to the wedding (with the adorable new bundle of joy in tow, of course)!

So I’ve got the dress, the day, and the location set. I’m waiting to hear back from a photographer that I love. The next big projects are the flowers and catering.

And I’m almost finished with the invitations (that I designed myself). I think they look pretty darn good (but I’m probably biased). Ha. I am going to share a piece of the invite…because I don’t want any guests to see them before they get them in the mail. I made save the dates to go with them. Those will be printed and sent out ASAP. I was completely against the idea of save the dates at first, but my aunt said it was better to let people know since the wedding is going to be so soon!

Did I mention the date we picked was taken? Yeah, we were going to try for May, and it just didn’t work…so we moved everything up. Which give us FIVE MONTHS. I will be MARRIED to my best friend in less than five months. It’s almost hard to believe. I’m doing my best to try and not get overwhelmed and to take all these awesome changes in my life one step at a time.

Anyway, I have this theory that even when people are engaged for a year (or more), MOST of the planning happens in about five months. I figure most couples don’t book a caterer a year out or decide on flowers a year out…those things happen after the decisions about what kind of wedding you want. Luckily, Mr. Opossum and I know what we want…and have for a long time, so our planning is mainly just execution!

I think the next five months are going to go so fast…and hopefully be tons of fun!

Haha - I’m sure you can get everything done in 5 months, but don’t be so sure that most people don’t book caterers or florists a year out. I booked most of my vendors more than a year out and all of them had other weddings the same month as ours, if not on our same day by the time I booked them. I also ran into photographers that were booked for my date more than 14 months out. So, don’t be surprised if it’s a challenge to find vendors you want that are still available. Again though, I’m sure you can make it work.

Congrats! Now that I have my dress, I want to move the wedding up and can’t believe it’s over a year away! Aah! Five months sounds great.

I love that little glimpse of your invites! And I totally agree with your theory that people really only plan in five months, I can totally relate!

Congrats! Good luck with everything… I will warn you though that we had a long engagement and now with over 6 months to go all of our vendors are booked! Gives me time to work on all of the little details now. :)

I started planning my May wedding at the end of October, a 7 month engagement and I’ve had no problems booking my vendors. Not one that I wanted came back and said they were booked. I think you’ll be find and it will all work out perfectly.

We had everything booked a year out! We got the last date in June that was open at our venue, and same with our videographer. The first photographer we wanted to book already had a wedding on our date. They said they typically get booked out about 12-14 months out for Spring/Summer weddings. Crazy. Our wedding planner was also booked solid for 2012 by about mid-September. Luckily we had booked her in July.

Anyways, congrats! Can’t wait to hear more about your planning adventures :)

Girl, I am 20 months out and I am finding difficulty booking our venue that far out. We are pushed to make a venue decision 18 months out. But then again, we are in a major city and are looking at unique venues.
