Seasons of Love

December 27th, 2011 @ 10:15 am by Mrs. Mole

Miss (almost Mrs.) Sunhat got me thinking the other day about our own winter wedding. We are getting married at the end of January, and our Milwaukee party is going to be in the beginning of February. We chose our wedding date because it is our third anniversary. What better way to celebrate that occasion besides getting married? (Sure beats a dinner and a movie!) We chose our hometown party date because it was convenient to our honeymoon plans.

Getting married in Vegas in January is not much different than getting married there in March or October. The temperatures tend to range from the upper 30s to the upper 50s. However, the weather in Milwaukee during this time is an entirely different beast. Want to see what it looked like outside there last February?

Well, someone loved it at least

Honestly, we didn’t think much about potential weather concerns until it was far, far too late to change our minds. We will just keep our fingers crossed and hope that inclement weather doesn’t affect our guests’ — or equally importantly, our — travel plans to the party. I am already preparing myself for some photos in my sleeping-bag shaped puffer coat and fur lined boots.

All of this has made me think about what it would be like to have our wedding in a different season, however. If our wedding were in June, for example, I could rock my fancy, open-toed heels in Milwaukee without fear of frostbite. No one would get stranded at the airport. Our guests could linger with cocktails on this amazing patio overlooking the river.

But I keep going back to the meaning of the date. Our wedding anniversary will forever have significance to us not only as the day that we vowed our love and life to each other, but as the date that our love and life together started. To me, that’s worth the chance of a snowy or sleety background.

How did you pick your wedding date or season? Do you ever wish you were getting married sometime else?

We are getting married in the spring because it’s slow time for our jobs! We didn’t care too much about the date. We picked the date according to when our venue was available lol!

You are so close! With 4 days left, I’m accepting the fact I won’t get my snow. That’s the way it goes! I remember that bad snow last year - so pretty though!

It was easy for us. DH went to work right after high school and only a few years ago decided to go for his Bachelor’s Degree. He still has a year left since he’s been going part time, so we basically were trapped into Summer so he’d be out of school.

The forecast had a 90% chance of rain, but thankfully it only stormed the night before, and the 88 degree heat from the sun dried everything up quickly before our noon wedding.

@Cecilia: That’s definitely an important consideration when choosing a wedding date! I’m not sure if we would have switched our date or our venue if the Wynn would have been unavailable on our anniversary.
@Miss Sunhat: There’s no snow in Milwaukee this year either! Maybe both of us will have not-so-white winter weddings? I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you get a pretty dusting of snow for your event.

We’re getting married on our anniversary too, so I understand wanting to have a date that has meaning to you. Lucky for us, we started dating in June!

We live in a very tourist-heavy area Memorial Day through Labor Day so we chose the weekend after Labor Day. And a Sunday no less. Less traffic, better parking along Ocean Drive, and almost 100% availability of vendors certainly influenced our decision!

Your dog in the snow is so cute! Like you, we just kind of have our fingers crossed about the weather. In a perfect world it would be snowy enough to make things pretty but not enough to make travel hard on anyone. The only date we checked was the Superbowl. Things would just be out of control in Indianapolis that week!

@TinyTina: Glad that your anniversary date worked out as your wedding date! Mr. Mole keeps “joking” that it means he has one fewer date to remember.
@Ocean: That’s great that everything worked out so perfectly for you on that weekend!
@Miss Raccoon: We didn’t even think about that! The Superbowl is the day after our Milwaukee party. I wonder what will happen if the Packers make the game?! Haha. Whoops.

I, personally, am not a fan of winter (which also influence my decision to move back to the South). We’re just hoping NC doesn’t get hit with a hurricane next June.
