Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

After our first look and a little bride and groom love, we separated to prepare for the ceremony. This was a big moment, you guys. Just looking at the pictures, I tear up!

My veil. Oh. My sweet, sweet veil. It was by far my favorite accessory of the day. When I put it on, I knew our time was finally here. I truly felt like a bride.

We all experience those moments when all of the sudden our emotions hit us. This was my moment.

Luckily, I had a bunch of women around to help me gather myself.

It wasn’t easy, though. The tears kept coming.

“You’re OK! You’re OK!” I think that’s probably what I was saying to myself. Get it together!!

My grandmother purchased he veil for me from Priscilla of Boston. It was cathedral length with Swarovski crystals throughout… it was truly pine.

Then there was my bee charm! Boy, did I feel special to have this charm! I knew it had just passed through the hands of recently wed bees, and I as I latched it to my bouquet, I felt an immense sense of pride.

Then there was my parents’ wedding bands. Not a lot of people knew they were attached to my bouquet. My parents are divorced and remarried (my mom, recently widowed), and it may not have seemed appropriate to everyone. It was my bouquet, though, and I wanted them there.

My mom helped me tie ribbon on the bouquet around the rings. She was so incredibly honored that I would be carrying them on this day. She’s never stopped loving my father. It was our little moment that only we shared and understood.

It was perfect.

Growing Wild did a phenomenal job on my bouquet, too.

The blush tones were an exact match to what I had in mind all along.

There I was…

All ready to go. I was ready to walk down the aisle and see my groom!!

Ready to become a wife.

What were the moments like right before you walked down the aisle?

Were they emotional?

Wow! I also bought a POB veil in the heat of the moment because it was so stunning. I started to have some regrets about spending so much on it afterwards but this post makes me feel so much better! You look stunning! I also plan to pin my grandmothers’ rings to my bouquet.

I know I’m going to be a wreck as soon as I take my dad’s arm to head down the aisle. I have no idea on how I’m going to keep it together, I’m a recovering alcoholic so a shot is totally out of the question. I’m not a crier either, but I have a feeling I won’t be able to hold back on my wedding day, I’ll be a hot mess for sure.

Your story is cute and I <3 your veil too.

Tears are streaming down my face! I love your pics and I can’t wait to have this moment - in 2 days! So touching. And I’m thinking of moving my bee charms too so they are more visible on my bouquet.

I love the sentiment of both your parents’ rings. They’re still your parents whether married or not. And I love the bee charm on the bouquet.
