About Mrs. Raccoon

Licensed to Wed

December 29th, 2011 @ 5:54 am by Mrs. Raccoon

We did our homework and showed up at the clerk’s office over prepared toting every sort of ID imaginable. They pretty much just asked us if we were on drugs or married to anyone else. No sweat or surprises and $20 later, we have our certificate and 60 days to make it all official!

The copy that’s ours to keep leaves a little to be desired. It’s just a yellow sheet of printer paper they slapped an extra seal on. I don’t know where my expectations of awesomeness came from, but not being met it left me searching for a different certificate. A little something like this is more what I had in mind:

The Graphics Fairy has this one from an 1880s book available to download for free on her site along with a lot of other images. The only change we’d have to make is the year.

Can I share one more I’ve found in my searches? It popped up in Google and I can’t fight how much I’d love to have it.

I’ll figure something out. Did getting your marriage license go smoothly?

Every county seems to have a different license. For some real eye candy, check out the Ketubah a Jewish marriage certificate.

Yay, how exciting that you got your license!! Hopefully we won’t have any problems with ours in NY, but we’ll prepare ourselves and bring everything.. Just in case!

We are filling out our “fast track” application today, but we won’t pick up our license until the day before our wedding!

@bkieland: I know! I haven’t been able to find that one for purchase either. I’m thinking about just trying to open it in an editing program and take out the written text. It looks like it says it’s from 1888.

@Miss Mole: Today! That’s really exciting! I’ve heard about where you can start the application before going in to pick it up. That would be a big help.

$20? What a deal! We had to fork over $60.

@Miss Sunhat: Ours is $102.50 - that is IF it doesn’t go up after the new year.

@alicia1745: Holy smokes that sounds like a lot! It will be worth it though. I think we had a lower rate since I live in the same county we’ll be married in.

Ours was super-duper easy, and the lady at the Clerk of Deeds thanked us for being so organized. And our license is also rather anti-climatic. Just white and green and currently chilling on the staircase not in an envelope.
