This is what has happened to my planning…

I had heard that this was a common thing that many brides faced during the planning process, but I didn’t think it could happen to me.

Hello, hive!
I am so incredibly happy and surprised to be introducing myself to you all! When I got my acceptance email from Pengy, I was at work/school (work is school and school is work…more on that later!), and I seriously could not believe it. I instantly called my fiancée to share the good news, and she was just as excited as I am! I have wanted to be a blogging bee since before we got engaged, and it still doesn’t seem real! I am so truly honoured to be given the chance to share our unique wedding story with you all.

Now, just who are the Eagles? Let me fill you in!

A few weeks after I won the Upon a Star contest, I was scheduled to fly down to Charleston to get my Jorge Manuel wedding gown at the beautiful Maddison Row bridal salon. I took the day before off from work and went to tour the DC Design House, since I was flying out of one of the DC airports. I didn’t realize there would be a wedding connection to doing that, but it turned out that Filene’s Running of the Brides was happening nearby! I saw family trying to take a picture across from the store and noticed the girl in the middle had a garment bag in her arms. I offered to take a picture of the entire group and congratulated them on finding a dress. They were ecstatic and said they drove for hours to get there. I thought it was an interesting precursor to what happened the next day when I went to Charleston…

So, does having your rehearsal dinner at a restaurant called Stripburger set an appropriate tone for your wedding? Mr. Mole and I think so. (Its name refers to the Vegas strip, hive, not strippers! Of course, the latter would be more appropriate to the bachelor/bachelorette parties.)

Mr. Mole and I decided to have a rehearsal dinner, even though we aren’t having an actual rehearsal. (We’re hoping that the first time’s the charm when it comes to performing wedding ceremonies.) We figured that a dinner was a nice way to welcome all of our guests to Las Vegas and spend some time with them before the wedding. Deciding to have the event, however, was significantly easier than deciding where to have it.
Maybe it’s just me, but I completely underestimated how much a rehearsal dinner would cost.

That’s not a typo up there. I meant to type wedding bRand.

As a marketer, when I thought about our wedding, I thought about it the same way that I think about my brands (well, aside from the fact that I’m a bit more emotionally attached to the wedding): What does our wedding stand for? How do we want our wedding to perceived? What would be the visual elements of our wedding?
While going through these questions (don’t worry, I didn’t make him white board it out), Mr. Turkey and I came up with a single phrase to use throughout the planning process: Modern Elegance.
So, it sounds nice and all, but what exactly does modern elegance mean? What does it look like? How will our guests feel it?
I’m so excited about this whole randomizer thing. Thanks, Mrs. Avocado, for such a fun prompt! Any excuse to revisit my wedding day through photos by The Nichols.
I used a random number generator to pick ten wedding photos, and these are the ones I got.
This first photo was taken sometime during our toasts. I remember feeling uncomfortable this whole time because 1.) We were up on a stage in front of all of our guests, which I had no idea was how we were going to do it, and 2.) I had to pee the whole time. I actually didn’t talk at all; public speaking complete petrifies me, and I did not want to feel that way on my wedding day, dammit!

I feel like this next one is quintessentially “our wedding.” It rained the whole damn day, and I just loved the way the impromptu umbrella shots turned out. They weren’t even posed; we were just kind of walking around after the ceremony, if I’m remembering correctly. See how the Dude has his arm around my waist and is kind of guiding me so I don’t slip? Normally, that type of behavior would NOT be tolerated on my part, haha. (I can do it myseeeelf!) But, what can I say—maybe I was feeling slightly more romantic than usual?
Note about this post: I do not mean to stir up a fur-debate, so just know that from here on out whenever I say “fur,” I mean fur-esque.
When Mr. Dalmatian and I decided on our date, we considered a few things. One thing that we didn’t really consider was the time of year, because it seemed like a given that we would get married in the spring or summer. Not only did this fit with our desire to have an outdoor ceremony, it also seemed to make the most sense with the timeline of our lives, since we would both be done with grad school. I am very happy with this decision, and can’t wait to be surrounded by lovely May flowers on our wedding day, but there is one small thing I am sad to be missing.

Mr. D and I have really started to gear up for the wedding. Starting next month, our wedding events begin. My fantastic mad hatter tea party bridal shower is next month, my bachelorette weekend is in February (as is Mr. D’s dude weekend), and the wedding (dum, dum, duh, dum) is in March.
Holy shit, things are getting real.
In preparation for the big event, Mr. D and I are starting to tie up some of the loose ends (fonts for the invite, setting the rehearsal dinner time, yada yada), but we recently began something that is making us focus on the reason for this big shindig: pre-marital counseling.
Back in June we took one of these things:

When I left off, I mentioned it took me a year to get into the whole weight loss idea.
At my current job I joined the gym in the basement, using the treadmill and elliptical for 45 minutes to an hour for four or five times a week. I started eating smaller portions and better food. I started cooking with a lot less fat and a lot more low-fat ingredients. I also stopped a lot of the mindless snacking I did. It took me a year to shed 20 pounds. Since I’m short, it was significant enough.
What I can recommend, which has worked for me (keep in mind I have NO dietary knowledge. This is just that works for my metabolism):

We’re kicking off our helpful series with a post nominated originally by Mrs. Pony and then nominated 5 times over by other bees in the hive! Mrs. Pony says: “I found Cherry Pie’s writing-their-own-ceremony-post to be extremely helpful when trying to write our own ceremony.”
If you’re planning on writing your own ceremony, Mrs. Cherry Pie gives us some helpful guidelines to craft it.
~~~
When we decided to have a non-officiant friend marry us (remember: anyone can marry you in Montana), I knew it meant that I would have to write our wedding ceremony, or at least contribute heavily to its creation. This was high on my list of “cons” relating to not hiring an officiant, but I very quickly came to enjoy that I had the power to word smith our ceremony in any way I wanted.
I want to share with you what writing our ceremony meant to me, the process I used to write it, and finally, our ceremony text, in case any of these things might inspire one of you to follow the same path.
When we left off, I was off to bed with a full belly of yummy Mexican and fun drinks. The next morning we took our time getting up and then headed out for a Bloody Mary brunch. I promise you, the entire weekend did NOT revolve around drinks.
As brunch was winding down, the girls handed me a present…a picture frame. I opened it from behind, but when I turned it over…Surprise #3!!
AHHHHHHHH
