Before I was engaged, I heard time and time again that brides and grooms get in tons of arguments during wedding planning. Apparently you’re supposed to plan “wedding free” date nights where you’re not allowed to mention the wedding (uh, not even once…?) and give your guy a free pass to not give a damn about wedding planning because, after all, it’s your day. It’s your special day.

I think I need this so I can remind people what friggin’ day it friggin’ is.
I figured Mr. Unicycle and I would end up fighting about this eventually, since we fight about pretty much everything, but I really couldn’t visualize what these fights would sound like. How could people argue about wonderful things like poufy dresses and cake flavors? Would he put up his dukes when I suggested something outlandish like lavender-flavored cake? Would I slap him around when he insisted on red velvet?

After the “How’d he do it?” question often comes a violent grabbing of your hand for a look at the sparkly* ring upon your finger. Oohs and ahhs naturally follow.
Besides the obligatory “thank you” after someone looks at my ring, though, I feel the need to tell a more detailed story…one that gives Mr. Turkey extra kudos (more than those necessary for making such a large purchase/commitment). Focus group of one, but I think he did a pretty amazing job and went a bit above and beyond. Like with the proposal story, I think it’s his to tell, so I’ll turn over the keyboard…
Hi all—it’s Mr. Turkey. I’m back again. This is not going to be a regular thing, though. I’m going to leave wedding blogging to the experts. As for sports blogging, hmmm…I might have something there. But I digress.
Hello again everyone! I couldn’t resist this opportunity to stop by and revisit our wedding in a really unique way. Several of the photos below are ones I never would have shared (because I liked others better), but they all highlight really happy things that I love talking about.
First, our exit from the temple. If you read my posts when I was planning my wedding and recapping, you may recall that for LDS weddings the ceremony is held inside with no video cameras or photography. This photo shows our public debut as husband and wife!

Our full wedding party, minus one junior bridesmaid. Out of my bridesmaids two are married, and one will be married this March. I haven’t been a part of many wedding days lately and I miss it (and let’s be honest, I really want to help someone with their wedding planning
).

We’re kicking off a new series today: The Randomizer, introduced to us by the lovely Mrs. Avocado.
You probably read plenty of blogs that post the top 20ish most fantastical images from real weddings. But what about the rest of the images? Chances are for your own wedding, you’ve chosen your favorite 50 images or so to share with your family and friends via a physical album, online, and social media. Months pass by, and you may practically forget that there were hundreds of images that don’t see the light of day. We’re here to breathe to life some more, perhaps forgotten, images in your wedding album!
Using a random number generator, the bees have all come together to randomize their own weddings. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing 10 random images from our wedding image collections, with a little background as to what each image was. What was happening when it was taken? Who’s in it? What is it?
We’d love for you to participate as well! Here’s how to share your randomized wedding with us!
1. From your number wedding images, use a random number generator to choose 10 random numbers, and choose the corresponding images to those numbers.

There is something so elegant and classic about a monogram. And us Southern ladies just L.O.V.E. a monogram. Bags, jewelry…hell, we even monogram our cars! (No really, our cars.)

So what does this have to do with the wedding? Well, naturally I wanted to incorporate Mr. Hawk’s and my newly minted monogram into our wedding reception. And what better way to do that than use a Globo light? (And while we’re at it? Add a little uplighting!)
When dinner was over, it was cake cutting time. But first, some close ups of the gorgeous cakes my mom made for us.
We had chocolate and white cake with lemon and raspberry filling. It was so delicious!

We are passionate fans of great music. We will travel great distances and endure some pretty interesting conditions for a good concert.

Wait in line for hours to ensure our caravan of friends can camp together in the middle of a field lacking in shade, water, and basic necessities? Yes, please. / Photo by Miss Mink
The genre of music we like has a lot of improvisation. A song is never played the same way twice. All the bands we follow allow fans to tape their concerts and trade recordings, so fans tend to remember the dates of particular versions of songs they like. We’re never eager for new studio albums to be released, but we usually buy them to support our favorite artists. We are more excited to see each concert’s set list develop each night there is a live show.
Hi. I’m Miss Mole. I’m a white girl from small -Wisconsin. In two short months, I will be Mrs. Mole, where “Mole” is a stand-in for an incredibly common Chinese last name. It’s so common that it has its own entry on Wikipedia. According to that website, there are over 16 million living people who share that last name.

So what does this mean? On a superficial level, it means that I have no chance in hell to get my preferred Gmail address: first-initial-last-name. My last name, in contrast to Mr. Mole’s, is so uncommon that I have never had any problem getting an easy email address. (In fact, I’ve never even met anyone else outside of my relatives who shares my surname.) I probably spent about 40 minutes playing around with different combinations of my first and new last name before giving up and just throwing my maiden name in the address.
I think photo booths at weddings are a great idea, and luckily for me, Cinnamon Buns agreed. We sourced some pieces, and made a few more to fill our tickle trunk of props. We didn’t want a plain white background, so we found this great green and white oversized houndstooth fabric at Fabricland and bought up all they had. In the days before the wedding, I got my mum to sew it into a big square-ish piece (the sewing machine makes me cry; I’m hoping we can get to couples’ therapy sometime soon) that our photographers could throw over their own backdrop frame. We didn’t have any printing capability, just our second shooter with her camera on a tripod. We had plans to get these photos to our guests later, which I’ll go into in another post.
Right after the parent dances Cinnamon Buns pulled me in to the booth so we could show our guests how it is done.

We tangoed!

I didn’t plan on jumping right into inspiration posts, but early in our engagement there was exciting news from one of my favorite brands that just needed to be shared! A few months ago, Kate Spade New York introduced Wedding Belles (and whistles), a collection including dresses, shoes, jewelry, handbags, and other accessories.
How do I love this new collection? Let me count the ways…
I guess it’s first important to discuss my love for this brand. Although I have been (woefully) restrained in purchasing from Kate, I am constantly attracted to her bright colors, polka-dotted patterns, and unique handbags. My shiny pink Stacy wallet is a bright spot in any purse and was so loved that I purchased a coordinating striped pink case for my iPhone. (I was going through a pink phase at the time.) So though my Kate collection is fairly limited beyond this, I have spent countless hours on their site, many times going as far as placing items in the basket before I stop, close the browser, and sadly walk away.
But if there’s one time to splurge a little…it’s your wedding, right? So here’s my current “love” wish list from the Wedding Belles collection.
Unlike some people, I was never one to plan or even think about my future wedding before I was engaged. Sure, I knew I would probably have a ball planning a wedding if I ever did get engaged, but I figured I’d leave all the prep work until that moment. I specifically remember one night in college when my girlfriends were going around the table, announcing what their wedding colors will be and what kind of wedding and bridesmaid dresses they would eventually have. Please keep in mind, we were all very, very single at time. So when it was my turn to talk, I just laughed and said, “who the hell knows, but I really like turquoise.” They looked at me all crazy-like (HOW could I NOT know that yet?!). And thus ended my “pre-planning.”
Well, sort of. There was one thing that I did have a very strong opinion on at the time, but it didn’t quite fit in with all the girly talk going on. I knew that, when I eventually walked down the aisle, it would be with either both my parents, or just me. I still hold to that decision.
In a nutshell, as a child of divorced parents, I did a lot of traveling back and forth from one to the other. I lived with both of them at certain points, and both have had a great influence on how I was brought up and on who I am today.
