We did our homework and showed up at the clerk’s office over prepared toting every sort of ID imaginable. They pretty much just asked us if we were on drugs or married to anyone else. No sweat or surprises and $20 later, we have our certificate and 60 days to make it all official!

The copy that’s ours to keep leaves a little to be desired. It’s just a yellow sheet of printer paper they slapped an extra seal on. I don’t know where my expectations of awesomeness came from, but not being met it left me searching for a different certificate. A little something like this is more what I had in mind:

The morning of my wedding, I woke up surprisingly calm. I had been stressing the previous few weeks due to depressing weather forecasts that threatened to ruin our dream outdoor location, so waking up to a beautiful, sunshiny day instantly put a big smile on my face. Both my hair and makeup artist arrived right on time and looking fabulous (a great first sign to me since I took a huge leap of faith on hiring locals who I’d never worked with before!). They got to work on making me into a bride…

No, this is not a post about horrendous invasions of personal space. This is about having a seating chart. Or not.
We spent Christmas at my family’s and I really tried to keep wedding talk to a minimum, however I could not pass up a chance with most of the major players present to ask: Seating chart? Yes or no? I personally had very mixed feeling on a chart. I know it is the “polite” thing to do so your guests aren’t wandering around like confused sheep, or (more likely) stuck next to people they don’t know and forced to make awkward conversation with because they came in late. On top of that, I really like the idea of fun, beautiful table numbers and seating cards.
On the flip side, we are celebrating in a brewery, not a ballroom. It is a casual atmosphere and people would hopefully be able to figure out a place to sit. The other bonus of this plan is that it saves me from having to make said table numbers and seating charts because, as beautiful as they can be, I have a feeling they will have a high PIA factor.
All of that considered, I was on the fence.

I’m an antique/vintage junkie. I like old furniture, old books, and old houses. I like when things feel used and loved, and I like to wonder about the story of the object’s previous owner. Old junk just gives me the warm fuzzies.
The very first piece of furniture I ever purchased on my own was a worn out farmhouse dresser. Its doors had been painted a bright green that I loved, and the rest of the white paint was chipping and yellowed. I fell in love and brought it home (broken handle and all). My dad and Mr. Opossum had to move it up the stairs and into my bedroom. Both of them asked me, at separate times, why I had brought home this nasty old dresser. They were even more appalled when they found out I payed money for it. Ha. I guess it’s something that men just don’t get.
People that do get “it,” however, are wedding bloggers and designers! I feel like I see vintage and rustic wedding inspiration everywhere I turn lately. It’s one of those things that happens to be super trendy right now.
Either way, trendy or not, this love for old stuff has worked its way into the design of our wedding. My mom, my sister, and I went antiquing last weekend to see if we could find anything unique that we might be able to use. I came back with only a few items, but lots of great ideas!

Personal photo
I realize there is a lot going on in this photo, but the thing I was trying to focus on was that awesome old window hanging from the ceiling. I happen to already have an old window in my possession, and I think this chandelier-like idea could be the perfect focal point to hang over our cake table.

Immediately after the ceremony, Mr. High Wire and I enjoyed a little private photo shoot in the gardens. At the same time, the guests were directed over to our reception tent to enjoy a cold drink.

I found these wonderful chalkboard signs for a really cheap price at a local flea market. Trying to do these DIY would have cost more.

With the holidays upon us there has definitely been a recent upsurge of engagements. My Facebook newsfeed has definitely been plastered with many newly engaged couples changing their relationship status, and posting shots of their brand new bling to their Timeline.
I recently read an article that got me thinking about the whole conundrum of whether or not to post a picture of your engagement ring to Facebook. The article itself was written in a really snarky and rude manner, damning the women who choose to snap a picture of their engagement ring up-close and then send off to their mobile uploads. The writer, who is not-engaged but in a happy relationship which she felt the need to stress (over compensation, much?), got a lot of backlash in her comments section, and for the sake of preventing an internet war of words between said site and Weddingbee I think that it’s best that I leave the source of the article anonymous.
In essence, the article voices the view that it is cheesy, materialistic and alarming to post pictures of your new shiny bling to your Facebook.

Hi, I haven’t blogged here in 800,000 years because wedding planning (invitation design, specifically) and life in general has driven me against the wall in the blogging department. I eat, sleep, work, and wedding plan, but now that my invitations are at the printer, I get to blog again. So, howdy. Again.

My wedding budget strategy has been to think of how much I think something should cost, double it, and hope I get a nice surprise when I request a quote from a potential wedding vendor. This has worked well for me, and so far, I get to feel like I’m saving tons of money on our wedding when my quotes are constantly coming back under budget. I loop Bossyboots into our updated wedding costs, and he thinks I’m a genius for saving us all this money.
Cue angels singing.
Recently, I said to myself “Self, you should book yourself a wedding cake. Your wedding is happening in two months, and people will expect cake. I know cake isn’t really your thing, but you are having a wedding, so just get a cake.”
Self is quite wise.
As many bees have revealed…I am not a big cake person. White cake is totally boring to me, most other cakes are a lot of meh, I enjoy carrot cake and yellow cake with chocolate icing. The only cake I REALLY love is German Chocolate cake. Not just any German Chocolate cake: Betty Crocker Super Moist.
$1.98, ladies.

Don’t judge - $1.98 means more moolah for the fun stuff. My Rue La La addiction won’t enable itself.
After we joined our guests for cocktail hour, we walked about two metres outside the reception room and waited for our introduction. First up was groomsman O and bridesmaid M:
Then the best man and maid of honour—they apparently got a ’pose at the top of the stairs’ memo. You might have also noted that my MOH did a little switcheroo with her dress and went with the evening look, for ease of dancing!
This is a story of diamonds; the old, the new, and the newer.
My “Something Old” came to me six years ago in the form of the most spectacular ring I’ve ever laid my eyes on. It’s a piece of jewelry that I’ve always ogled over, and something that brings back very fond memories of two incredibly special women in my life: my great-grandma and my grandma, so affectionately called Big Nana and Little Nana.
My Little Papa, Big Nana’s husband (are you following?), gave her a ring for an anniversary gift a very long time ago. We are thinking it was sometime in the ’40s. Because they were so poor when they got married in the ’20s, he couldn’t provide her with a diamond ring, but more than made up for that 20 years later. I remember the ring on my Big Nana’s finger when I was younger; the light would hit the diamonds and easily catch anyone’s attention. My Big Nana passed away when I was in high school and it was naturally passed down to her daughter, my Little Nana.
Little Nana was a fan of jewelry and her husband, my Papa, spoiled her with rubys and diamonds.

So, what’s the deal with favors? I have to say, some of the strangest criticisms I hear about weddings is about the favors. I’ve heard the following far too many times: “I can’t believe they gave us (fill in blank.)”
Excuse me, but do you go to the wedding for the favor? No, most likely you do not. At least I am hoping you don’t. So again I ask, what’s up with favors?
I feel like far too many people put too much concern and worry into the favors. The fact of the matter is, most favors cost anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars. Most likely you are not going to have some outrageous favor to present to your guests. If you do, then hey, that’s awesome! Where I come from though…that just doesn’t really happen.
Your guests know this! I personally have never gone to a wedding expecting some type of incredible favor.

After our first look and a little bride and groom love, we separated to prepare for the ceremony. This was a big moment, you guys. Just looking at the pictures, I tear up!
My veil. Oh. My sweet, sweet veil. It was by far my favorite accessory of the day. When I put it on, I knew our time was finally here. I truly felt like a bride.

I have officially mailed out our save the dates!
Which means people are actually invited to our wedding. That makes it seem pretty darn real, if you ask me! The process of collecting all the addresses was intensive, but I’m glad it’s finished. Now all I have to do is work on getting the invitations printed out!
I bought some fantastic paper on sale at Michaels. (It was half off!) It’s a nice ivory color with a little bit of texture and sparkle to it. The best part about it is that it makes the print job from my cheapo, crappy printer look very professional. I’m pretty darn pleased with how the invitation suite has turned out! I can’t wait to post it for everyone to see!!
For now I’ll just share my photos of the save the dates (since they’ve finally been mailed out!!!). Please don’t be offended by my cell-phone photos (or our blurred-out names). Normally I would be a good blogger and only share photos from my nice camera, but my camera lens recently broke so it’s out of commission for a little while.
The front of the “postcard style” save the date…

And again the front and the back (modeled after vintage postcards). I think the herb stamps were a pretty cute little addition, too.
